  • @dixie_amazon - So, if you click on the "Select" button next to Fitbit Tracker, it won't select? You have to have something selected, so you can't "unselect" Don't track steps without selecting something else.
  • That's why I have auto-detect turned off for outdoor biking and elliptical - I don't do those and I've seen other people say that it mistakenly logged those when they were doing something else. However, if I ever do get my bike down and go for a ride, I guess I'll have to remember to turn that back on.
  • That was a feature that they added some time last fall, if I remember correctly. I think it only works for devices with heart rate monitors (but I'm not sure about that. Somehow it will auto-detect certain activities - walks, runs, elliptical, aerobic workout (like Zumba), outdoor bike, and "sport". It's not perfect, but…
  • Today was W2D1 of the RunDouble distance 5K to 10K plan for me. I was a little anxious about it because the additional distance meant going up another short steep hill then down a longer, steeper hill, then turning around and going back up it. As I expected, the brief walking break took place where it was starting to level…

  • It depends on the person. I think some people forge ahead regardless of whether they successfully completed the last run and that seems to work fine for them. However, I'm a very novice runner, I'm old, I'm fat, I've had knee problems, and I never had a deadline of when I wanted to complete the program - all of which added…
  • I know a lot of people just press on, but my approach was always to repeat the run until I could do it. However, you did do it earlier in the week, so you could just chalk it up to a bad run and press on. My philosophy for my running is that I'm not in a hurry (the 10K race I want to enter is the Bolder Boulder next…
  • 5K to 10K, W1D3 distance. The distance was 4.38 miles and I did it in 59:14 for a pace of 13:32. So, basically the same pace as last run. I was really slow up the big hill today (but I stuck to a "run" gait, even though I can walk it as fast or faster), but made it up elsewhere. It was a few degrees cooler this morning, or…

  • RunDouble has "fun runs" and some other options, but I don't see anything that just lets me pick any distance. Besides, what works for me is a plan that decides for me how far to run and when to take breaks. Left to my own devices, I won't push myself as hard as I should.
  • Did 5K to 10K, W1D2 distance. The distance was 4.38 miles and I did it in 59:22 for a pace of 13:34. So, slower than day 1, but I didn't feel like I was struggling or anything. I was just a little slower. I'm debating with myself about whether I want to do a bit of a "cut back" next week by doing week 3 of the timed…

  • I understand your frustration. When I've had trouble with the GPS it's really bugged me. We have very poor cell coverage - only one cell provider works at all and that not everywhere. And, the data signal is even worse. However, the GPS usually works - it doesn't depend on having data or cell signals. On occasion, it has…
  • Did 5K to 10K, W1D1 distance. The distance was 4.38 miles and I did it in 58:30 for a pace of 13:22. That extra half mile over Saturday's run felt long! It might have been because the day was already heating up by the time I got back, despite starting running at 6:30. I was also having a few minor pains in my left knee and…

  • That's weird - they're always coming up with new bugs for us. :/ I've always been able to identify the "correct" meal and delete the rest. I'd probably edit the meal in MFP, then edit it back to what it was, and see if that fixed it.
  • Make sure that "Fitbit Tracker" is selected as you step source in MFP. That's been a problem for some people occasionally for the last few months, although it should get automatically selected when you connect your accounts. You get to that on the web site by going to Apps, then selecting Steps at the top. On the mobile…
  • Did 5K to 10K, W2D3 timed. Distance today was 3.89 miles for a pace of 13:07. I think in general I was doing about the same pace as last time, except that I decided to sprint a bit on a couple of the more level sections on the way back. I think I need to sprint more - I had trouble sustaining it for more than a minute.…

  • Yes, I have a heart rate monitor that I wear. It isn't that important since I also have a Fitbit with heart rate monitoring, but since RunDouble supports it and I have it, I figure I might as well wear it. I like all the features that RunDouble has compared to the free Zen Labs app I started with - it was worth the cost…
  • I'm using RunDouble, so the program is slightly different, I think. Week 2 has me doing 4 runs of 12 minutes with 1 minute walks in between. The distance and pace I posted is excluding the warm up and cool down. One thing I like about RunDouble is that it's "all-in-one" - it maps the run, records my heart rate, pace, etc.…
  • There don't seem to be any notes for the field. You can select "Custom" and it pops up a little box to enter the value. That's about it. I would be curious to know if setting it to a more accurate value affects the heart rate zones that Fitbit uses. It seems like it should. I'd love to be able to enter a custom max HR in…
  • Did W2D2 timed. I was slower today, but didn't prematurely drop to a walk, either. Distance today was 3.79 miles for a pace of 13:27. I also did a much better job of estimating where to turn around. I finished about where I began, without doubling back.

  • I second Christine's question. I use Trendweight. I just glanced at weightgrapher but I'm not sure I see that it would add a lot to what I get from Trendweight.
  • Make sure you have "Fitbit" selected as your steps source.
  • You don't say what your goal weight is, but assuming you're aiming for 150lbs or below, then losing 1-2 pounds a week at this point isn't unreasonable, so you're probably not doing a lot of damage by having a 1000 calorie deficit, especially if it isn't every day. (If you're only aiming to lose 20 or 30 lbs, rather than 60…
  • It depends on how big an actual deficit that creates and how much weight you have to lose. Too big a deficit is counterproductive in the long term. One week is too short a time to actually assess how fast you're losing. I weigh every day but use Trendweight to smooth out the fluctuations. Plus, the minimum length of time I…
  • Yes, MFP takes your selected activity level and assumes that your calorie burn will be constant for all 24 hours of the day. So, you need to leave a few calories "uneaten" at the end of the day to make up for the fact that you're going to be sleeping. The earlier you go to bed and the higher your MFP activity level, the…
  • Did W2D1 timed. I got to the top of the hill before turning around! I still find it hard to believe that I can actually run like this. It just amazes me. Not only that I can do it, but I don't hate it and I feel good afterwards. I'm not wiped out for the rest of the day. Anyway, my distance today was 3.89 miles for a pace…
