  • I think weighing yourself once a week is a good idea if only to monitor your "eats" to make sure you aren't over or under eating. By no means should the scale alone rule, taking your measurements once a month is really enlightening. Basically because you might be toning and gaining muscle in place of the fat you lost.…
  • What has always baffled me are these websites where you scroll down to the exercise you did, add the minutes you did it and it tells you the calories you burned. Some just dwell on them counting every calorie burned like pennies in the bank. Another strange one is when I hop on my treadmill, set it up for my weight, select…
  • I agree some awesome suggestions...I do a 1/4 cup of steel cut oatmeal with 2 tablespoons of unsweetened applesauce. I some someone suggest peanut butter and Thank You..thats a great idea!!! Traditionally, foods that will hold you over are those high in fibre & protein which makes oatmeal the perfect food:laugh: (fibre is…
  • I would think that to MAXIMIZE the benefits of your strength training, it would be better done 3x a week and before I commit to a time I would need to see what you are actually doing. Usually when a program is developed on the basis of 3x a week and you are still in weight loss mode, its best to do a full body workout. I…
  • ok...so the BMR says I should have 1330 cals per day. For about 4-5 days now I have been under 1000 cals per day and felt full and fine, although when its time for a meal or a snack it's TIME! I guess what I am asking is this: 1. If my BMR is 1330 cals...should I be deducting 500 cals per day to lose one pound per week? 2.…
  • Actually its not alot and it freezes well...there are only 3 of us here. The only time I've had to freeze any is when I specifically making freezer meals for myself ~ its so good, it usually gets gobbled up in someone's lunch. Ynot ..I really don't know about the "pot pie" thingee...perhaps if you search the recipes in the…
  • Unquestionably, one will lose weight walking, especially if their heart rate is up. The problem lies that as your body becomes accustomed to it..you will have to challenge yourself more by increasing your walk time or start walking uphill. You might also be losing some lean muscle which opens up the door for "strength…
  • oooh that sounds yummy cowboy...I've tried using cranberries in the same way too...its good!
  • Yeah I find heavier weights hurting my wrists too...in fact my hands even get stiff from "the push". A few years back, I invested in some great padded palm leather workout gloves and wear them on top of elastic wrist supports...It seems to have done the trick and there's no callousing.
  • Good for you Mlieb...you are indeed an inspiration...Keep up that mantra...You should be proud! Funny how that works Jesusgrl ...Keep up the great work! Kistinbee ~ I am with you...it's best to just avoid the temptation and stock the cupboards with healthy, low fat alternatives. I know I keep mentioning Thinsation cookie…
  • It is really good Fuzz Buzz. In fact, the family had it for dinner yesterday. All we eat is whole wheat pasta and the sausages are Piller's Turkey Sausage. To cheat on time and the oil, I grill the sausages first on the barbeque and cut the oil in the recipe down to 1-2 tsps., although I do claim all the points and cals.…

  • "Emotional Eating" thwarts many a good program. A good approach to dealing with it is to prepare for it. I mean who goes through life on such an even keel that they never turn to some good ole comfort food to take the hurt away? What really needs to be addressed are the triggers for emotional eating and a better solution…
  • I was just wondering if any of you were supplementing your diet with vitamins or herbal teas, etc. For myself, I am taking 2 GNC's Women's Mega-Vitamins (50+), 2 MSM plus Glucosamine, Calcium Supps in the evenings. When I feel like something hot to drink, I usually have a Green Tea which also counts as a water (YAY!)…
  • Thinsations 100 cal cookie packs are good...I use the Oreo's for my chocolate cravings & the Chips Ahoy are just awesome with a cuppa herbal tea or coffee. If you feel guilty about the Girl Guides, pay for a box and gift it.
  • The beauty of falling off the wagon is that at the very next meal you, again, have the opportunity to climb right back on up there. Congrats! It's hard to admit it, but at least you are honest enough with yourself to be accountable. Ultimate Accountability lies within you and towards yourself. If you really want something,…
  • RKJR, (Being totally honest here) I guess the first thing I have to ask about your Exercise Regimen is....Are you happy with it? I see that you are alternating muscle groups and that is EXCELLENT. The Bowflex Body Builder Advice Team advised me not to do cardio on the same day as I weight train. 20 reps?? sorry I don't…
  • You would probably be losing lean muscle with some fat & water ergo as soon as you got off "the diet" you would regain it in probably less than half the time. Its that old question....(fad) diet vs. lifestyle (good health)?
  • I would think yes you have to as I think if you don't after a certain amount of weightloss, you would either be eventually either maintaining, hitting a plateau or gaining weight.

  • Caroline Fitness....what you are describing to me is a plan to fail...NO ONE I know has that much time! (and what I mean by this is...if you are spending a couple hours you are more apt to not go on a day you just have too many other things to do~the goal is to make your gym time fit your lifestyle so you are more apt to…
  • No worries DaHunxter! Firstly, thank you so much for suggesting I do my pullovers before any bi or tricep work...It DOES make a difference. Secondly, standard treatment for Hypothryoidism is Levothyroxine or Synthroid daily...The tricky part is to time it correctly as multivitamins and calcium ingestion makes everything go…

  • If you want it, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse ...
  • Hi Blythe, I totally agree with Cheryl...I'm in my 50's, menopausal and hypothyroid (officially) and exercise IS the key. Do I like doing it? NOPE Do I feel better after? YUP. I think I'm addicted to the endorphins a good workout provides. There are also some great supplements out there that combat some of the more…
  • Wow ... I see I am in good company here. It looks great everyone...Keep up the fabulous work! Thanks DaHunxster...I'll give that a try on Wednesday! "I'm thinking you'll meet your goals pretty quickly, depending on your diet." Thanks for the encouragement...unfortunately being hypothyroid makes it harder ... Ugh!
  • Sometimes I wonder if I am doing too much or too little. Because of a back injury, I had to quit working out for almost a year and automatically put on 20 lbs. A week ago I was given medical clearance to return to Weight training and I'm starting out slow....one set, 10 reps to failure meaning...the weights I am using…
  • Krazy...swimming is cardio....this pertains to strength or weight training. JJ...I have both books. Body for Life has been out for awhile and there are always new theories coming out all the time. It is also lies in the same category as Religion, Sex and Politics ~ highly competitive and highly controversial. Personally, I…
  • Mine might be the total unpopular comment here...but I always thought exercise was defined by raising your heart rate...and if you can sustain an elevated heart rate while doing normal day to day cleaning, I am cleaning my house the wrong way. Granted...cleaning your house vs. sitting on the couch watching…
