  • At the moment it's miso soup and some fruit and nut bars. Most of the space is taking up by shoes though...
  • Run a marathon Complete a triathlon (Sprint distance will do) Do the 3 peaks challange Run a 1/2 marathon on a trail Walk the full length of the north downs way
  • Ohhh please sign me up, I did it last year and it was so much fun!!!
  • Hi everyone, I'm in Surrey at the moment (though not posh enough to be here lol), but lived in Bournemouth for 4 years before that whilst at uni :drinker:
  • Same here, everyone at work was raving mad about it. I ended up borrowing it from my boss (of all people) and when I asked what the plot was I just got blank stares. Didn't even bother with books 2 and 3, the first one was so bad...
  • Love this thread, I got such a monkey brain when running as well. 1. Ok there we go 2 is the door locked? Garmin on? 3. Today's gonna be a good one 4. Where do all these little flies come from? And why are they all aiming for my face? 5. There's the lady walking her dog I run past every day. 6. I hate hills. Seriously…
  • That used to work for me as well (I don't get side stitches anymore). As the others said, make sure you're running at a comfortable, even speed and run "tall" with your back straight and your head up rather than staring at your feet. Focus on your breathing too and find an even rhythm that works for you (for example, a…
  • Both types of workouts target different aspects of running. Long runs for endurance, intervals for speed. Ideally, a good training plan, especially if you're going to race, should contain a combination of both, plus some hill runs. If it's just about burning calories, intervals probably burn more as you're running at…
  • I use Vaseline for long runs to stop chafing, I imagine it would work for the thighs as well. Deodorant is good too, I usually use that at work when changing from cycling gear into work dresses.
  • It could just have been the heat. Did you drink enough during and after the walk? The weak and shaky feeling could have been dehydration. Maybe slow down your pace, wear a hat and take a bottle of water with you and see if that changes anything. If you're still feeling shaky, maybe take a rest day between your walks.
  • They got one more game to play but they can't overtake the other teams on points even if they win. And on behalf of all Welesh and Scottish people: it's the England team, not Britain ;-)
  • Your dad's the one with a medical degree. I think you should own up about swiping his pills and get a recommendation on how to reduce the swelling from him rather than a bunch of randoms on the internet.
  • Practice makes perfect, just keep trying. In the beginning I couldn't do it without yoga-esque bends, now I can do them up one handed. Wait til you get to the gym bra, that's even harder to do up. Really worth it though, it is the best running bra out there. But then, I got like 5 of them so I'm a bit biased...
  • Well done for signing up and going for it! Don't worry about the time for the first race, just enjoy the experience of it and wear the finisher medal with pride. The community spirit at races is amazing, first or last (and I've been last before so I know) people will cheer for you because they know you're doing something…
  • I'm in. Been ill for the last 2 weeks an couldn't really run so I'm aching to go for a jog now. I'll aim for 50 miles.
  • I gained a lot during law school as well. Steady diet of pizza, pasta, chocolate, crisps and booze over 4 years.:drinker: Add no time for exercise (or sleep) and you have yourself a perfect recipe for a weight disaster.:frown:
  • I'm in the UK as well, feel free to add me. i got about 30lbs to lose and am trying really hard to be good and log daily.
  • And I thought that was just me... not feeling so alone after reading through these posts. I sweat so easily even just walking down the street in the sun. Don't even get me started on how I look after a run...
  • Stick with it, it'll get easier. I struggled to run a minute when I first started running. Remember when the plan says to run it doesn't mean all out Sprint (which was my mistake thus not being able to stick to it for a minute). Go at a pace where you can still talk without gasping after every other word. Every week it'll…
  • I think k LARP has too many factors to log it accurately. You'd have to keep track of how long the bouts are and maybe log those as martial arts. All the walking would either be walking or hiking (mine are usually in hilly forest areas so I'm going on that presumption). Then there's the bursts of sprinting, the crawling…
  • I wouldn't recommend buying running shoes online "blindly". Even if it's an older or newer version of the trainers you like, there will always be subtitle changes that could nonetheless make a big difference to the way they feel. Go for the in store model, guys in running shops normally really know their stuff, especially…
  • Depends on what your goals are and how fit you both are. I tried running with my boyfriend, but he's incredibly reluctant to go and when he does he usually puts me to shame by casually jogging the speed I do during my fast intervals. He's a foot Tyler than me, most of which is legs, and about half as heavy...:ohwell:
  • That wasn't answer I had in mind when I started reading the thread but YES!!! That or Tamriel (The Elder Scrolls universe).
  • I did 11 before both of mine and was fine. If it's your first half I'd definitely save the full 13 for race day, it'll be so much more rewarding (I actually cried when I got the finisher medal). Enjoy it, stick to your strategy and most importantly do not rush. Better to be overtaken by people early and then feel smug when…
  • I dialogue on around 5lbs during TOM. I just die k lots of water and avoid the scale that week
  • 1lb is just a normal fluctuation, we all get them, women more so than men (damn you nature). I pile on up to 5lbs during TOM and it comes straight back off the following week. Also, weight loss generally slows a bit after the first few weeks. Just rejoice in the amazing accomplishment of already losing 14lbs and keep doing…
  • I like the sound of that, will try that for my next yoga session.
  • Just like the others said, that'll keep long hair out of your face and the back of your neck.
  • Good point, I'll run a 5k with you if your anywhere near London
  • I run all my races alone, you'll make friends along the way though to push each other on. I ran the best part of a 10k last year with someone I'd never met before, after the finish she came up to me and said "I couldn't have done it without you". I was so chuffed for both of us
