For the nerds (LARPing)...

Hey fellow LARP nerds. Though it isn't technically a LARP, I am looking to log the calories I burn doing Dagorhir battle games. It is a full-contact foam weapon fighting game. Usually practices consist of bursts of combat over several hours. I have logged in under "martial arts" before, but I wanted to see if anyone has a better category.

I think k LARP has too many factors to log it accurately. You'd have to keep track of how long the bouts are and maybe log those as martial arts. All the walking would either be walking or hiking (mine are usually in hilly forest areas so I'm going on that presumption). Then there's the bursts of sprinting, the crawling around (sneaking up on people and stuff) and of course a lot of time just talking to people. Maybe a HR monitor could provide some clarity (wrap some cloth around it to not ruin the look). Otherwise I think there's just too many variables for an accurate log.

You should get a heart rate monitor to accurately measure the calories you burn while LARPing.

I second the HRM vote. It's the easiest way to track calories burned, and a fair bit more accurate (although still not very precise) than the MFP burns.

    I am nixing the HRM

HRM are only good for steady state cardio, which it doesn't sound like LARPing is that.

Maybe time your bouts and use fencing. Seems like it would be the closest.
