I've enjoyed reading your posts, which are helping me ponder where I could stand to be more mindful in my own eating. This week (3/7-3/13) I am focusing on eliminating snacks, except for a pickle if I need a sodium boost. I'm noticing that I do a lot of fear-based eating. That probably sounds weird, but I catch myself…

@nvmomketo, I'm right there with you on the no kids road trip! @PaleoInScotland, I'm glad to hear things might be settling down a bit for you. Walking is great therapy in addition to calorie burning. I could use a walk, too.

Yes! I'm glad the restaurant community never sold out on salt, because ask any chef or baker--salt is essential to good flavor. I'm glad my parents never bought into that nonsense, either. Does CSPI ever do anything actually helpful?

This rings true for me, and the mechanics make sense from a flight-or-flight standpoint. When I started LCHF, it was on the heels of a very tough year involving a death in the family, a tough pregnancy, buying and selling a house, my daughter starting Kindergarten and taking it really hard, and my husband changing jobs.…

Made it 3:00 just now, alternating between straight planks with a few little variations (alternating knee bends and torso twists) and about 1:00 of side planks. I guess I have my baseline now! Thanks for the reminder to try it, @auntstephie321!

This pretty much sums up how the medical establishment views the keto diet, doesn't it? The concluding paragraph is great:

Just clicked on the link. The photo alone is really refreshing to see! Will read the article now. :-)

Ha! Nice nails, btw!

Just chiming in to reassure you that it's normal to feel sleepy the first few days. Definitely check out the "Start Here" thread if you haven't already. Lots of great info there.

Hi @msty112! I'm so glad you're here, and I hope you find the healing you need. In your original post, you said that your doc wants you to try LCHF at 100g carbs per day or less. Later you mentioned that you're worried about avoiding fruit, root vegetables and beans. You could still eat those in moderation and come in…

You might hate me for saying this, but the problem might be that you're trying too hard, and/or expecting results too soon. Stress is sometimes the hidden enemy. It sounds like you're following a stellar program. Have you been on this exercise routine for a while, or did you recently start or up the intensity? How much…

Hard boiled eggs and lots of coffee. :-)

My best guess would be that pickles and similar things will be your best friend. They say sour things really help with morning sickness, and the sodium boost could help combat low carb flu symptoms, which can include nausea, headaches and fatigue. If you have a LC-savvy doctor or midwife you can consult, that would be…

If you put aside the calorie question for now and focus on adjusting your macros only, I think you'll be setting yourself up for success. Maybe start with 70% fat, 20% protein and 10% carbs, or something close to that. More fat = more satiety. Really! If you eat enough fat, you won't be hungry in between meals. You may be…

Yes, me! The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. I found at my local library. There are other great books about changing habits, too, but this one inspired my change and is still my favorite.

Thanks @KnitOrMiss for resurrecting this thread! I have no new "after" to post at this point, but I am seriously impressed at the transformations in this thread. Wow, @lowjax75, @Japkoo and @wabmester! Just amazing. So great to see people aging in reverse. Maybe the group motto should be something like, "these results…

Thanks so much ladies! Size 12, I think. I'll check out Swimsuits For All. Thanks @Sunny_Bunny_ for the monokini rec! I didn't know about that style.

P.S. If you are breastfeeding, you may need more calories than 1600. I've heard the suggestion to add 500 calories per day if you're exclusively breastfeeding, or proportionally less if you're doing a combo of breast milk and formula. And that's one beautiful baby you have there!
-
Hi and welcome @ashofthestars! Just guessing from your profile pic and description of having GD during pregnancy... You're pretty recently postpartum, right? Are you breastfeeding? If the answer to either or both is yes, I just want to say that LCHF is doable, and so is exercise, but proceed slowly and with caution. I…

Can't add you for some reason, but feel free to add me. I started LCHF after I struggled to lose weight following baby #3. Welcome!
-
Welcome, @suzzi_can! I highly recommend reading the "start here" thread and checking out the links in it. I also can't say enough good things about including healthy fat in your diet. It's essential to long term success with low carb. Protein is important, too, but not as much as fat, and you can overdo it. Best of luck!…
-
Welcome @callmetj86! Be sure to read the "start here" thread if you haven't already. You definitely want to take electrolytes, particularly sodium, quite seriously to avoid the worst of the low carb flu symptoms. I'm glad you're not feeling anything negative yet, but forewarned is forearmed. I'm getting back in after a…

I love this idea, but I've zealously overcommitted to challenges in the past, plus I'm just getting restarted with LCHF, so I want to keep it very simple this time: I'll commit to reading the weekly threads, so that I am steeped in your discussions and...mindful of mindfulness. If I read some of the links, post a time or…

Wow, @Sunny_Bunny_, those are some nice graphs! And great work over the past 3 months, too. What are the vertical lines and dots, following the trend line? And the green/red sections? If you don't mind my asking, of course.
-
Hello and welcome, Sue! I, too, had great success before, though with LCHF rather than Atkins. I fell off the wagon over the holidays. I'm back, as of yesterday, and already I'm reminded what a wonderful group this is. You'll find both great support and friendly competition here. I'm a stay-at-home-mom of 3 little kids,…

This is a great post and a great accomplishment! No shame at all! My only caution would be to pay attention to what your feet and knees tell you. Running used to be my go-to exercise for fitness and to lose weight. Over the years, unbeknownst to me, I developed pretty severe plantar fasciitis, to the point where I now…
-
...aaaand I am already feeling some sore spots in new places (we had a sub today). One minute into a straight plank, my inner voice warned me not to overdo it today. I listened, for once.
-
Dang girl! That's awesome! Off to time my plank now, though I did some planking in Pilates class this morning, so those muscles are already a little fatigued.
-
Welcome, Landon! I'm getting back in after falling off the wagon recently. This group is phenomenal, full of really supportive, intelligent people. We're all here because we all struggle with carbs, or at least did for a long time. I'm reminding myself how it gets amazingly easy to pass them up once you've gone LCHF for a…

That is AWESOME @Karlottap!
