Whether it is muscle growth, which you mention is not the case, or muscular water retention, it is reassuring. I can live with that explanation, plus I probably chose the wrong word when I said, "growth." The water retention fits my performance gain-rate observations. Anyway, I will keep weighing in, but won't be focussing…

My 2nd bout of Yoga last night -- it went pretty darned well! I'm obviously like other beginners going to struggle to do it all right, but I am rapidly getting to the point where I can at least make a decent wobbly stab at even the harder movements. I will still not even touch Crane at this point, and I can't yet do…

The rate is very difficult to maintain, yes. Without eating tons of protein supplements I guess it would be tons of fish and meat. I am restraining myself from eating more than 1 or 2 bars and having more than 1 or 2 protein shakes, and it's really tough. I might as well say I have to do 2 of each minimum to even get…

I am having "fun" trying to get enough protein. I'm doing a 30/50/20 at least for the next handful of weeks, then probably will move to something like a 40/40/20 and at some point maybe inching the fat % up. I'm not running or anything too endurance-y like that (yet). Tweaking a bit down on carbs to create a small deficit…

Treat it like a "restful" activity, maximize your fun factor in there. I envy you for having reached that level with something. If you feel you need to replace it with more challenging workouts, that's purely up to you, but there's no harm in keeping on with it and using the saved exertion to excel in your other classes.

WK2 Shoulders and arms yesterday. It was pretty tough, had to take a lot of breaks. I did 3/4 of the workout in the morning, and then went to the start,, did the warmup, and then finished the remaining 1/4 in the evening. Since I was a little fresher, it went pretty well, but I still managed to be sweating. Then it was on…

The part I thought was well said was the "maybe I better stop reading the posts" part. The flood of oft-repeated info can get annoying at times, yes, but we can make the choice to stop listening/reading.

I'm overweight by a good few dozen lbs -- or more accurately, my BMI is insanely high in the "overweight" range. I've been pretty fit as recently as 2006 but really fell apart especially in the last 2 years. I've started P90X 10 days ago, and while I have a few things I am still struggling badly with (pushups, endurance,…

Wheee! Finally my chin-up bar arrives! Delayed for almost a week due to weather. Just in time for the second half of week 2! Going to transition off the lat-pulldown machine for the next pullup exercises. At least I will feel better knowing I can follow along with the guy using the bands now!

Week 2 Shoulders and Arms this morning. This was my first attempt to get up early and workout first thing. I did about 3/4 of the workout, and basically got started on the "bonus" round, before it started getting a little late in the morning. Still trying to find the correct weights/bands I can work up from. I moved some…

Plyo the 2nd time around wasn't terribly easy today. I really had to push myself on some things to get close to the reps they did (I know this isn't an immediate goal but I wanted to push a little today) and again had to pause often. Slightly unhappy about that but I do think my little pauses were shorter than last week.…

I've only been on one cruise but I can tell you much of the clientele on that cruise (Carnival) were generally too busy either getting on the buffet lines, or perched on the edges of their seats busily shoveling their finds down, to bother checking out my horrible physique. It's a bit blunt, but true, description of a…

This looks like a good thread to join. I'm a newbie, and I'm on week 2, day 2 Plyo today. So what I noticed at the close of week 1 and getting into week2 is I almost, almost can see less fat, I almost want to say my still-considerably plush belly seems just a bit firmer. I also think my overall endurance has improved…

Well, I finally started paying a little attention to the P90X nutrition guide, and managed about 2700 calories yesterday. Got up late today so getting a high count will be a little tougher. Depending, I guess, on superbowl food intake. I think I got a little wakeup call during exercise yesterday, too. On what was day 1 of…

I am wondering about this, too. I took measurements right in the middle of the chest, basically including breasts at the point where I get the biggest reading (not for any chest-thumping purposes, as my body is a mess) but to find a reference point. For waist I was kind of tempted to find the thinnest (hah hah hah yea…

I can't wait till I can do P90X *and* other stuff. I want to try running and have already committed to joining a few friends who do run, as soon as I get some endurance built up.

P90X "sucks"...for now. I can tell it isn't going to "suck," hopefully really soon. Me: I'm way out of shape, my body is really sloppy, the only way it could be worse is if I was markedly obese or something. I really have "taken it easy" for way too long, and lost whatever average semi-decent level of fitness I reached…

Who sells it, just the maker? Or are there other outlets you use?

Whole foods, lots of veggies, good quality proteins and fats, fruit intake is good, nutrient-dense food, but you need enough of it to fulfill your body's nutrient and energy needs. "Density of nutrients" or "density of caloric/fat/protein/carb/etc content" means you need less of the "denser" food to be properly fueled, not…

I have a dumbbell set, bench, and a machine with a bunch of workout stuff like leg extensions, lat pull down, etc. I'd want to have an elliptical and either treadmill or stationary bike (or both) to round out the equipment. The space I have now is garage/basement and I've laid down some 3/4" thick interlocking gym flooring…

For the Yoga, being the longest program, you could also shave a bit off the 90 minutes by cutting out the last 10 or so. I saw someone post that the last minutes (around Happy Baby pose and on) can be skipped without missing much. I had to skip everything after Happy Baby, basically, since so far this week I've had almost…

Thanks for the suggestions. DVD player shouldn't be a problem as I have to travel for work in this case and will have my laptop with me. My kit therefore would be the DVDs and the 2 bands. I'd probably attempt to do what I can depending on the day's exercise plan. I can always hope that I will suffer minimal impact to the…

I am kind of annoyed with this myself right now. I only started watching what I eat for the last few weeks, but I have had some seesawing. Started on the 18th of January on a 2000ish calories/day limit, which is what someone my size/gender needs, apparently, for a 1lb/week weight loss on a sedentary lifestyle. I proceeded…

I don't like Yogo myself, but will soldier on best I can. I actually found the 2nd 45 minutes more surviveable than the first part. Admittedly, I stopped right about at the happy baby part. It was getting really late and I figure until I can actually do these programs with only minimal pausing I could afford to not do the…

Day 6 tonight for this first-timer. I hear kenpo is kinda martial-artsy, so having studied several martial arts I am looking forward to some P90X martial-arts-flavored exercises. I am hoping already that I may be seeing some progress. For example my ab ripper X rep numbers for the first few exercises have been rising while…

Coming in late here, and noticed the dominance of female-oriented posting going on. Nothing wrong with numerous females on this site, but nice to have guys to compare notes with since we do have kind of different problems when it comes to weight loss or fitness, etc. Anyway, to introduce myself: 43 years old, 6'3" 235lb…

I picked up a few decent ones from Sports Authority. I heard about the Wallymart ones and steered clear of that. I think I paid something like $10 each, got a medium (orange) and heavy (blue). They seem pretty sturdy.

Thanks Spitfirex, glad to know I am not the only one. BTW I found out Plyo is indeed the X in P90X. Strangely I felt better about how I did on plyo than on day 1. It took almost twice as long as the actual DVD to get through it, what with all the pausing after each exercise or couple of exercises. But I felt like I did…

I strongly agree that lifestyle change > specific diets. I know a lot of people on Weight Watchers etc, and they all seesaw up and down pretty badly. The closest thing I ever came to a "diet" myself was a kind of modified Atkins-y thing I actually came up with before I even knew what Atkins, or most of the other popular…

I don't know how much faith I have in this Timex HRM's calorie counter but as a 43yr male around 235lb, with a pretty bad BMI (higher end of overweight basically), going into P90X after a very long hiatus from exercise,...my day 2 (Plyometrics) counter was 1450ish. That seems pretty high...
