  • Generally for runs under an hour, I don't take water, but for longer runs I usually do, especially in summer. Unless I know there are water fountains along the way - which there aren't usually on my routes. I have a Nathan water belt that holds a 600 ml bottle (with a little pocket for gel, keys etc) so I use this to carry…
  • Nope, it means you haven't eaten much today, or your exercised a hell of a lot. Theoretically you should eat until your "calories remaining" is 0. That can be hard to do if you have a big exercise day, but it is the general idea. Note that MFP doesn't include the extra cals you will need to fuel your exercise until after…
  • Good info above. I'd add - There isn't going to be one "right' calorie amount for everyone - but I tend to think that even if you are eating good quality calories, your body still requires energy, and 1000 cals/day seems very low for an adult female, unless you are very tiny already.
  • Have you checked that you have accuratly entered any info required in both devices - like weight, age, gender etc. If you have missed one of those fields it might be giving you incorrect info. Or, perhaps they are using a different formula to estimate your burn.....
  • Because it's REALLY difficult to get your "remaining calories" right on 0. (Well not really hard, but you have to get very pedantic with small bits of celery and single almonds  And pretty meaningless anyway, as all the food and exercise we log is a estimate anyway). My diary is almost always going to be under or…
  • It's perfectly normal for the scale to fluctuate - it might be because your muscles are retaining water as they heal after exercise (espcecially something different) or it might be related to what you ate, whether you've been to the bathroom, where you're at in your monthly cycle, just to name a few.
  • Sounds like a reasonable goal to me. Really, though, your goal weight isn't the most important thing - making changes to the way you eat and exercise that you can keep up for the rest of your life is a much better goal. If you make some positive changes but get to Christmas and you've "only" lost 15 pounds - that is still…
  • Probably because your calorie goal is ridiculously low.... You're hungry because you aren't eating enough! I started out over 200 pounds and lost weight eating 1600ish net calories s day -1200 cals just isn't necessary for most people. I suggest that you reset your goals, choosing "lose 1 pound per week", that should give…
  • I'm in Australia - it's almost 10pm here, and time for me to stop reading MFP forums, put away my iPhone and go to sleep! Good night all, have a good morning/afternoon or night
  • My favourite breakfasts are - omelette - porridge (oatmeal) with peanut butter and skim mill - weetbix with skim mill and strawberries - avocado on toast, which is even better with a poached egg on top - raisin toast with pb and banana Some of these aren't super low in sugar, but if it's comong from milk and sugar, I'm not…
  • It's night time here, so it's a "going to bed" chuckle but that's good too!
  • Edit: apologies for putting my reply in the middle of the quote (the sentence starting with "by the way"). Editing is not easy on my iPhone.
  • I hope getting this off your chest made you feel better. I always enjoy seeing a complaint about negativity and drama queens full of SHOUTING - which makes it look both dramatic and negative. Thanks for the giggle!
  • So.... you're complaining because people are too negative?? Um. OK.
  • Don't waste energy wondering WHY they behave the way they do - it's better to put that energy into planning how you can eat well with or without their support. That might mean buying groceries and cooking your own meals, or asking them to buy you specific healthier choices when they buy fast food. You're a grown up, you…
  • No. I lost weight successfully eating 1500-1600 net calories (total per day would have been between 1500 and 2400).
  • Not a problem for me. If you are losing weight and feeling good, there is no need to make things more difficult for yourself.
  • None. There are lots of lovely people on there, but they are Internet contacts not "friends".
  • Plan ahead - choose what you will eat for dinner, log it, then work out what food and exercise will fit into the rest of your day. No need to be defeated!
  • Eat less. Move more.
  • I don't think it's a scam, but I think it (and every other diet shake) is an over-priced, over-processed milkshake. No single food or product is going to magically make you lose weight, you have to find a way of reducing your calorie intake (and hopefully increasing the nutritional value of your food) that works for you.…
  • Not ok. Try planning your meals ahead of time so you can see what you'll be eating and you can increase your meals or snacks so you are eating enough to keep you healthy. Remember that although you need to "eat less" to lose weight, eating very little doesn't mean you will become skinny in two weeks - if you keep it up,…
  • It would be easier if we know where you live! Generally though, eat wherever you want, just make a smart choice once you get there. For me that means things like - ignore the bread in the table - no wine (or just one glass), I drink sparkling water when I'm out. - pick a "plain" option like grilled fish or steak, sauce on…
  • Listen to Berry
  • I checked it out online, and it struck me as not so much a "diet plan" as a "eat special K products 3 times a day plan". I'm not buying into that (pun intended!)
  • What I was trying to say in my previous post, is that your GOAL number doesn't matter in your situation, because you aren't using it as a guide as to how much to eat, you are eating the number that you have chosen. Your body has no clue what number you see on the screen, it only cares about the calories (ie. energy) that…
  • If you're choosing a random number of cals to eat that is not related in any way to your calorie goal - it doesn't matter what your goal is. Set it wherever you feel comfortable, though 1300 or so cals seems really low to me for your weight (I started out at 92 kg and lost weight steadily eating 1660 NET calories.)
  • Don't panic - one week is not a plateau, that's a normal variation. It could be due to changing exercise, monthly cycle or many other reasons. Keep on eating well (not too little, not too much) and exercising moderately and you'll be fine. PS. Why are you dreading a plateau?
  • It sounds as though you aren't getting a really balanced diet - veges are great but fat and protein are important too - what about including a few more calorie (and nutrient) dense foods like olive oil, nuts, avocado, coconut milk based sauces etc? I don't think it hurts to be under calories now and again but if it's…
