Good topic. I did fall short a few times in January and February. However the overall trend has been upward! (or "downward," in terms of losing weight while upward in gaining muslce!). Right now I'm back on Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet, which is a bit extreme for a 31-year-old male at 183 lbs who exercises and lifts…

I can't do without! But I limit it to one or two cups of 1/2 caff in the morning, and then try to drink a cup of hot decaf green tea which is a good system-cleaner and I hear helps lower blood pressure (I love salt!). I can live now with a decent night's rest (at least six hours) and then minimal caffeine. Excess raises…

I try to limit my social drinking to once or twice a month. Dry red wines are lower in calories. Skinny margaritas. I enjoy a margaritta from Outback that has three shots but citrus juice and a lower calorie sweet & sour. Checkout getdrunknotfat.com

Low carb (a large part of which is the Glycemic Index) has been very effective for me, taking me from 240 lbs to the 180s. The South Beach Diet is safe and extremely beneficial, improving not just weight-loss but cardiovascular health as well. Phase 1, which is only two weeks, excludes fruits and grains. No, these are not…

Men's Fitness or Men's Health (I can't remember which) had an incredibly-delicious looking recipe for sweet potato pancakes in one of their last few issues. It was designed for strict dieters. You might be able to find it online.

I'm pretty sure working as a server (which I did for 2-3 years and will be looking to pick up again soon) burns considerably more calories than any white-collar job. Maybe not thousands but a significant number. If you're poking around in a lightly occupied establishment with an unfilled two-table station all night, I…

Eating out Chinese is a once-in-a-great while treat for me. Some of the calories are inevitable but I am able to practice restraint. I eat mostly meats and vegetables. I'll have maybe a 1/4 cup of fried rice, and a bowl of wonton soup (with just one pork dumpling in it) and maybe one or two pieces of sushi (which has that…

Love my omelets. Looking forward to eating them in the morning helps me to go to bed on a mostly empty stomach! I usually throw finely chopped red and orange pepper, cilantro and garlic into olive oil before adding my eggs and cheese (usually parmeasan or asiago=sharper taste, less cheese (and calories) needed). I was…

Unconscious - Lol. I've never had a rare steak. I guess I'm missing out? It is safe to eat?

Since I'm making Outback my once-monthly (middle of the month) treat, I went there the other night and ordered a steak (with sweet potato and their also amazing chopped bleu cheese pecan salad). I decided I wanted to add a half-rack of ribs, which were also great. The manager thought my ribs were too small, so he brought…

Breakfast: omelet with cheese and fresh red pepper, cilantro, and garlic, with sour cream on the side and three slices of crisp microwaved turkey bacon. Add a little milk to the eggs for more protein...I don't use flour cuz the omelet holds together fine. I like to get the Margarita Grill chicken at Chilis, which has…

Today I really wanted a Homestyle Chicken Filet sandwhich from Luby's. Because I had a coupon after all, that if I bought a small fries and drink I would get the sandwhich for free. Well, I managed to resist. Yeah!

I do like red wine. Any thoughts? One glass a week okay? How much does alcohol affect your weight loss, especially if you're eating very little carbs?

Swimming is great! I recommend using all four strokes (Freestyle, Breast, Butterfly, Back) to use all your muscles and to make sure you're kicking while you're swimming. I used to think I could never do the Butterfly, but I kept practicing till I could make it across the pool (all 25 yds!). Now it's my favorite stroke,…

I've lost over 50 lbs using the South Beach Diet. I went from 240 to the 180s, in my late 20's. I'm now 31. It's the best diet ever, because you really don't have to limit the amount of what you eat, just WHAT you eat. It's great for your heart! Yeah, you gotta give up sugar and bread for a while. You're not supposed to…

I am in Katy on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to workout.

Swim. That is my exercise of choice for March thru November. It is good cardiovascular and tones my muscles; I also lift weights...but running outdoors...not a chance in this heat! Anyway, I got my 50m butterfly down to about 45 seconds, which is good, I guess.

West Side here. I work in Katy, looking for weightlifting and swimming buddies at Mary Jo Peckham park (free gym and pool there), Monday-Friday afternoons or evenings.
