  • Hey Ian Thanks for this. I looked at it but I'm not sure about how they work really. Do you know if you need to wear the chest strap or does wearing the watch monitor your heart rate? Sorry I'm sure you didn't mean to put yourself up as an expert on this - but I have been wondering how they work for a while and your…
  • I understand that you get these when you increase yor mileage drastically or your trainers need replacing. I have found when I have suffered from them that I should just run through them. I know this is hard and can be painful but if none of the other things could be a cause you could try running through it. To ease the…
  • Well done for arranging this. I have done one 10k and a few 5ks and these are the things that I think make a good event: 1. Plenty of information before hand about parking, toilet facilities, drinks available etc 2. Clearly visible digital clock at the start and finish - so that people can see the time they took. Although…
  • Hi I will be doing this in Somerset too!! Or maybe Dorset or Wiltshire - not sure yet. I must get on and sign up tho. Add me as a friend if you want some motivation. I am not exactly a newby at running but I still wouldn't say no to some support and motivation. Best of luck. Alison

  • Just beware..........I found out when I had already eaten popcorn at the cinema that it was over 900 cals (large bag). Microwave popcorn is about 400 for the whole bag (salted). Enjoy!
  • Hi I know what you mean - this can become addictive. Some do say that every so often you should have an 'eat what you like' day. It apparently kick starts your body into starting to lose weight again - within reason of course!! I'd be interested to know how you get on. Could you let me know? Thanks a lot and happy eating!
  • If you have a mobile phone you can download apps to track calories burned. Hope this helps! Good luck.
  • Just start by going out for 15 - 20mins - walking and running when you can. You will be amazed at how quickly you will be able to run more than walk. Take it easy though as you could easily injure yourself if you over do it. Also you need good running shoes / trainers and a good sports bra!! If you want to 'friend' me…
  • Wednesday evenings. x
  • I hate it - but probably because I hate cooking - my husband does it all! I know I am very lucky!! You're right though you shouldn't go when you are hungry - big mistake! I hope you begin to enjoy it again. x
  • Oh don't do that then - good luck!
  • I had one over 20 years ago. I had it removed but I can't remember how long I was in recovery - not too long. Sorry I can't help more - they do say that you can bash it with a bible (or other large book) and it will disperse. Maybe worth a try?? !
  • Thanks I have used that tip. x
  • Hi Would love to but I'm a bit too far away! Lol. Best of luck and I hope you find someone to train with.
  • Maybe going from 9 to 13 miles is too much too soon? I think it should be 10% increase each time max. I have sore legs too after running 7.5 miles yesterday. Good luck with the training - you'll probably find you have a great run next time you go out!!
  • Hi I have done W.W and Slimming World countless times in the past, TBH we all know what we have to do - eat healthily and exercise more - that's why this works so well - less calories in and more burned = weight loss.............hopefully. Best of luck with all of it - add me as a friend if it will help you. Take care. x
  • Great - thanks everyone. Only problem is I don't think I can get many of these special breads in the U.K! I'll start examining the different ones I can get, eat them in the morning, max 2 slices at a time and preferably toasted - that should cover everything!! Cheers x
  • Thanks ahcoble - is that bread available in the U.K?
  • Thanks for your help. Are some rice cakes high in calories too?
  • Hi there You have found out the hard way that running on the treadmill is SOOOOO much easier than running outside. I think you should mix it up as you suggest. Running outside is harder as there are very slight changes in the camber (hills etc) that you wouldn't necessarily have on the treadmill unless you programme them…
  • You could also track the meals that you are planning to eat in advance. I find that this helps me to stick to those foods. Best of luck. x
  • Me too!! x:laugh:
  • Hi Andy I would love to run a marathon one day - well done for going for it. But.............isn't it a bit late to be asking about prep - I thought the London Marathon was in April............2011!! How did you get your place? Is it a charity place or did you get lucky in the ballot? Best of luck and I look forward to…
  • Hi You are right in thinking that some of it will be down to your trainers. You need to get your gait analysed - most good sports shops will have the facility to do this. Then you will know what type of gait you have and therefore what type of running shoe / trainer you need. Also as you are new to running you need to…
  • Hi I'm 5ft 11.5". I am currently 191lbs and a U.K size 14 - 16. I would like to be 187lbs which would mean I had maintained my original weight loss of 4 stone (56lbs). This took me about 4 years to get off but I have struggled in the last year to maintain. Now I'm using this site to track what I eat and what exercise I do…
  • Hi all I downloaded an app called 'Runtastic' and it is what it says!! Simple and easy to use...........and it was free to download - even better. Thanks everyone.
  • Thanks everyone - can't believe I got so many replies in such a short space of time - you guys are very supportive. Thanks I will look into these suggestions. i was trying to avoid buying a Garmin not only to save money but also because I don't like wearing or carrying too much when I run. Alison x
