I used to think I was crazy because it seemed my eyes change from grey to blue... then I discovered that there's no such thing as blue eyes... everybody has brown eyes. https://www.cnn.com/2016/12/16/health/human-eye-color/index.html

^ This... if I've learned anything (debatable) from my weight loss adventure, it's that maintenance is the hardest part. I have all the respect in the world for anybody that can pull it off - regardless of the path they take to get there.

I'm not opposed to the concept, and I know surgery candidates often have to demonstrate some level of non-surgical weight loss as part of the program. That said, I only know two people that have had WLS and both of them re-gained the weight - so, it's not a miracle cure and there still needs to be the same level of…

'Woo' is subjectively used to mean many different things on these boards. While the 'official' meaning is short for 'woo woo', some people use them to mean 'woohoo', or 'I disagree', etc. It's effectively meaningless now, so try not to take it to heart.

More force = more stress, sure, but the right kinds of stress in the right ranges are beneficial to the body, no? Otherwise a lot of people are wasting time by lifting weights.

Even better; put jar of peanut butter on scale, zero/tare the scale, apply peanut butter... number now showing on scale (a negative number) is the weight of what you took out... Same principle as your system, but no math required!

If you use the Garmin Connect app, you can search for courses near where you'll be staying (I'm assuming other apps have similar features). I was able to find some really nice waterfront runs when I visited Baltimore and Annapolis last fall...

For the same reason Coke (or was it Pepsi?) removed aspartame from their diet version; marketing to the woo. Thanks to social media, we now live in a post-factual world... Facts don't matter - only feelings. And chemicalz are scary.

Now I'm confused... Are you saying I don't need to moderate my intake of grass-fed organic beef? I only need to moderate if it's part of a McDonald's burger? How about if it were another fast food outlet? How about if it was grass-fed, but not organic? How about I moderate ALL my food choices regardless of where they fall…

Does anybody else REALLY want Cheetos now... or is it just me?

Agreed... the OP has changed the habit of mindless eating to the habit of mindful eating... from putting forth no thought or effort to their way of eating to putting in considerable effort.

Call me crazy, but I think a program with "Supplemental Nutrition" in the name should actually go for supplemental nutrition. As has been pointed out many times, this program is intended to help stretch user's food dollars so that no one goes hungry. If all your nutritional needs are met up to the point of soda, then I…

It's interesting - I was listening to NPR this morning and they announced that there's a Farm Bill in congress that is supposedly looking to cut funding to the SNAP program and how the big grocery chains were up in arms over the potential for lost revenue. So who's really being subsidized with this program? I'd like to see…

* Track accurately* Food scales are very helpful * Everything is an estimate so don't be afraid to adjust calories/burns as needed * Be consistent * Be patient * Trust the process

Aside from running, I have friends here that compete in powerlifting, Olympic lifting, and martial arts... I'm sure there are a ton of other options.

I think plants sleep about as much as I think caffeine is a toxin. Awaiting subsequent troll response... please don't disappoint me.

So they can be up early in the morning to get right to photosynthesizin'?

Like the others have said; motivation is a fair weather friend. The approach that has worked for me is to do my best to dedicate myself to my goals. If I'm being completely honest, there are many days I don't feel like tracking my food or exercising, but I know that these are the things I need to do to make the progress I…

Though the study doesn't come right out and say it, it points out that there are a wide range of BF%'s represented for any given BMI number. I think it's safe to say that the conclusion that, particularly for men, BMIs in the pre-obese range tend to have lower mortality - I think this is attributable to this segment being…

This from a 2015 NIH study: "The BMI has been useful in population-based studies by virtue of its wide acceptance in defining specific categories of body mass as a health issue. However, it is increasingly clear that BMI is a rather poor indicator of percent of body fat. Importantly, the BMI also does not capture…

My point was that outside of that purely rhetorical 1 SD interval, is someone outside of it too short? Too tall? The context matters (I know I keep harping on that - but only because it's true). Context A: Individual seeks to be a jockey Context B: Individual seeks to play center for L.A. Lakers Now we can make some…

Speaking for myself, I'm in the process of recomping and my goal is to achieve 18% BF... I'm probably currently in the neighborhood of 20% (truly accurate numbers being near impossible to derive), which is at the low end of the 'Acceptable' BF% range, yet I'm still 12 pounds away from a 'Healthy' BMI (top 'Healthy' is…
