  • More accurate than what? I love numbers so I love having mine. I run with a Polar RS300x + S1 footpod. I've had 3 different HRMs over the years from Timex, Suunto & Polar and Polar is my favorite because I think they have the most research in theirs but I would say Suunto is right up there as well as Timex. If I got a new…
  • I run. I see all sorts of people on the street around me running. Never seen a jogger.
  • I really struggle with this. For the past 2 years I've been on the road almost every week (this is only the 2nd week this year I've been home). I try and still do some shopping for lunch foods that I can keep in my hotel fridge like lunch meats and veggies and bread. Dinner is harder but I just try and plan out my meal…
  • There's probably a place for height and weight and if anything I'd keep those up to date. (I know there is on my Polar rs300x) Even if your HR max isn't correct, it will still give you a relative idea from workout to workout of what you're doing for sure.
  • Your max heart rate won't change much or at all through your life (despite the horribly inaccurate equations to find it). Its actually fairly important to know for the HRM to be accurate but its a difficult number to get. Mine is 209(!) and I discovered that through some pretty strenuous running. Its not really the safest…
  • Wait wait...are you telling me that my horror movie weight loss plan doesn't work? I've been offsetting my horror movie calories with popcorn 8(
  • I say run that half this weekend. I just ran the Disney Wine & Dine half this past weekend and its a race I'd been looking forward to all year. For some strange reason, despite having my best 7 months of training of my life, I blew off the last 2 before the race and 2 weeks before the race I was sweating it. But my brother…
  • My condolences on your loss.
  • It's tough but you just have to commit to it. I travel every week Mon - Thurs and the two days that I fly take a huge chunk out of my day. But even if I walk in the door at 9pm I get out to the gym to do my workout. And I do my runs in the morning so that nothing will prevent me from running. Try and get up early and do it…
  • Sure is normal. There could be a lot of reasons for it. Even if your metabolism is functioning completely normally, you are always going to see wild swings of weight. One day your body might be holding water. You may have eaten a big meal the day before that your body is still processing. Weighing yourself daily can be…
  • I'm going to throw another vote in for a polar FT4. If you want to spend a little more and step up to the FT7 though I think you won't be sorry 8)
  • I wish I could help you. Its a hard fight when its people you love. My brother and I are having that battle with my parents right now and mostly my dad. He's probably in the obese category though not to the degree of your parents I don't think. 6'1" and probably 250 - 260 at least (no real idea). He gave himself diabetes…
  • I also quit things when they get hard. That's why I'm fit and successful in general. Oh wait, that's right...I don't quit things.
  • What HRM are you using? Unless you have it set up properly its not going to be accurate for anything other than heart rate. Calories burned is just an equation that it uses to give an estimate and if your HRM is not set up right then the estimate is entirely meaningless
  • I love Polar...I really feel there's nothing better for an HRM
  • No, its not exercise
  • Yes, I trust my Polar RS300x when I'm running or working out but there are important things to keep in mind with a HRM. Like any computer, they're only as good as the information provided. 1) Have you provided your maxHR? I don't mean the one from the table that all HRMs tell you to derive based on your age. I mean, your…
  • Hate to say it but Nike has it right: Just do it! Excuses are easy and exercise is hard but after a while you'll start to get twitchy on days you miss your exercise. There's no easy road to building good habits.
  • Coffee won't keep you from losing weight (cream & sugar might ;) ). I will never give up coffee. I love coffee and it has some health benefits anyway.
  • Well, swimming is a pretty good workout! If you're pushing yourself, I wouldn't cut them in half. I'd go off what a similar workout feels like on land and you're at least burning the same if not more. 8)
  • The watch should be safe in the water but I think you'll find that the HRM won't work in the pool. There's not many HRMs that transmit at the frequency needed to get through the water and they're fairly expensive ;)
  • BTW, I highly recommend Polar. They have a wide range of models depending on your needs.
  • There's so many good reasons to have an HRM while you work out and this is definitely a big one 8)
  • I'd certainly consider bringing enough to be considered a platter but I also don't think my health should be the subject of social pleasantries. We live in a country that's out of control and if we, here, choose to live our lives in a more responsible matter, then the only ones who are rude are the ones who would take…
  • Sure, the body does process them differently but sucrose, no matter where you get it, is the worst kind of carb to ingest. So if you see you're getting a lot via fruit, you shouldn't ignore that. You should just try and limit it in other places. Just to clarify my statement. 8)
  • Sugar is sugar...doesn't matter what its in. Ignoring it would be a pretty horrible idea.
