  • I don't have a heart rate monitor, but you will get a different calorie burn based on the DVD. I log in Sprawl and Brawl, Cross Core Combat, Plyo XT, and Competition Core as circuit training, Muay Thai I log as kickboxing, and Cardio XT I log as aerobics. The other ones I'd log in as strength training. Based on some…
  • I have a desk job and am usually busy in the evenings--I have a son who has activities in the evenings, and I am usually responsible for dinner (and other general household/life responsibilities). I wake up at 5:20 every morning to work out at 5:30 a.m., and go to our corporate gym to lift for about an hour 2-3 times a…
  • I actually had more luck dropping running for something else I enjoyed more because I was more motivated to workout and fit it into my schedule!
  • It might be the walk, i.e., you may have walked long enough to deplete the glycogen stores in your quads (which were replenished over the course of the day before your second lift).
  • I currently alternate between LMC and Tapout XT and have sampled a couple of the Turbofire DVDs from a friend of mine. LMC has I think 3-4 steady cardio state sessions involving the gamut of kicks, punches and blocks, whereas Tapout XT 1 has one primary martial arts routine (Muay Thai), about 3 that have martial arts moves…
  • I love all of your updates, Sue! I am imagining the joy on your face as you pack up all of the now-too-big pants and other clothes for donation. Is the surgeon who's talking about MFP to other patients the handsome one? Give him a big hug from us!
  • Truth! In fact, this link made me feel much better. It's a series of charts that calculates gains according to body weight: http://www.exrx.net/Testing/WeightLifting/StrengthStandards.html
  • When I heard, I was in my office three blocks away from the White House. Then, I spent the rest of the morning underground, in the DC Metro system. No one had any idea what exactly was happening. The trains moved very slowly, but everyone had patience and a kind word. When we finally emerged, I spent about 2 hours at the…
  • Amazing!
  • I am jealous and would love to lift with a bunch of inspiring seniors around me. However, I think my progress would be impeded because I would probably want to hug all of them.
  • If you are not comfortable with it to the point that it impedes your progress or your goals, then it would be your personal choice not to go to the gym. There are so many forms of exercise that can be done without having to set one foot in one. However, to me personally a fitness journey involves getting outside of your…
  • I failed and also hit my lip with the oly bar at 50 lbs. So possibly "double failure" (if there was such a thing).
  • I keep on forgetting to post here, but I have started to get addicted to getting up at 5:20 a.m. so that I can be downstairs working out by 5:30. It's either circuit training, HIIT, or kickboxing. On average, it's 45 minutes. Then I go upstairs and help get my kiddo ready for school, clean up the kitchen, and then get…
  • I haven't taken one--It's an option depending on how comfortable I am over the longer term with maintaining my current body shape/profile. However, if a couple of slices of pizza fit into my overall weekly calorie or macro maximum, I go for it. My diary is open--I drink plenty of wine and eat plenty of chocolate and then…
  • Don't underestimate the amount of mental energy that goes into coaching/instructing--especially high school or middle age girls. Add doing demos and/or choreography, and it can be fairly taxing. Edit--just saw from your profile that you're coaching your little girl's squad. Coaching grade school or younger is probably just…
  • What Greenrun said. I am 5'1" and weigh 100 lbs. I have 21 inch thighs--they are muscular but I actually have thigh gap due to squats from lifting heavy.
  • My approach to working out has changed, but the actual type and duration hasn't decreased. Now I work out because I've come to love the things I'm doing and the impact that they have on my health & fitness.
  • I can take a picture of myself and not feel compelled to do the "skinny arm" pose...and my arm still looks skinny--well, actually muscular. Which is BETTER.
  • I can't find any dresses in my size in any of the cute boutiques in my area--no one seems to carry my now-too-small size! So...I guess the benefit is saving money because I can't splurge on them. :)
  • I am 5'1 and weigh 100 lbs. My TDEE is 1700 (net is 1450 according to MFP, so with my exercise figured in I arrive in the same place). I have been maintaining for the past couple of months at this calorie intake.
  • We don't watch many professional sports for the same reason many others have posted (difficult to root for multi-millionaires, many who we can't respect as individuals or role models). I do love college basketball (I cheered for a D1 program in college), and my husband watches road racing because he's an amateur race car…
  • I have a repaired ACL in left knee and meniscus issues in my right. My surgery was about 10 years ago. I was in physical therapy 2 days after my surgery, and luckily for me my PT was a badass and made me do as much mobility work as I could possibly stand. I would definitely say that if you intend to remain active to go…
  • Lana Del Rey "Off To The Races:" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET1MhXiUDVg Good for heavy/compound lifting.
  • +1 to the recommendation to the SL for Women Group. Here's the link: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/4618-stronglifts-5x5-for-women In fact, before you even go to Stronglifts.com, I would suggest reading tameko's summary and FAQs--a very clear, concise explanation of how you're supposed to progress. In terms of…
  • The entire group and all stickied topics are incredibly valuable: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/4618-stronglifts-5x5-for-women
  • You look awesome! Love the dress.
  • I work out the same--actually more because I have found activities that I really enjoy (including adding strength training).
  • I bumped up my weights yesterday too: Squats: 95 lbs (5x5) Bench: 60 lbs (5x5) Rows: 60 lbs (5x5) I have to admit that my form wasn't the best, so I am going to stick around here for a while. Also, my deadlift from Saturday was 105 lbs. I like deadlifting more than my bodyweight!
  • I have nothing to add, but kerri--I just read your post above and I imagined your (adorable) daughter (?) deadlifting 135 lbs because she's your profile picture. It made me happy.
  • Agree with this! I love information--all kinds--and I actually love tracking because it's intriguing how many calories certain foods have. I think the difference is whether or not the numbers rule the rest of your life in an unhealthy manner.
