  • It will change--as it should once you switch to maintenance. I am 5'1" and maintaining at 100 lbs and my net calories according to MFP is 1450 (set to lightly active). My TDEE is between 1700 and 1800 depending on the calculator, which is actually in line with what MFP is giving me in terms of total calories. For what it's…
  • Find something you enjoy doing and that's fairly convenient for you. I used to run, but have found things I like even more, and sometimes I actually look forward to getting up early--just me and my workout.
  • Have an amazing time at your 10K! I peeked at your profile pics, and the one thing that stands out to me the most is how happy you look. I bet that you have contributed to other's journeys as much as they have contributed to yours.
  • I am 5 1 and a half, and went from 113 to 100 between March and June of this year. I used to run 3x a week for about 3-4 miles and did VERY light weights. However, I noticed that I was not improving my fitness at all. I actually started doing Les Mills Combat in March, and really enjoyed it but halfway through I ditched…
  • It's quite expensive. Thanks to MFP, I now need an UP band (but I can get a great discount on them). Also, I need a power rack for our basement gym (I have the SL 5x5 women's group to thank for that). And finally, I need more compression shorts because I'm rocking the hell out of the pairs I currently have.
  • I used to have pretty bad TOM stuff until I had a baby (the baby is now 12 years old, so it's been a while). However, I do get a bit cranky and have more of an edgy and are a bit hungrier. If I am ravenous, I try and recognize it for what it's worth and choose "better" options and try and keep quantity down. A heavy lift…
  • This tomato, olive, and pinenut salad is a family favorite (we have brought it to potlucks and people love it): http://allrecipes.com/recipe/cherry-tomato-salad/
  • neandermagnon--thank you for your amazing post above!
  • Check out the group here before you Google: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/4601-stronglifts-5x5-for-women tameko has posted some amazing summaries and lists. I learned the hard way and found out about the group after I had downloaded Medhi's tome. There is only so much testosterone you can pack into a single .pdf,…
  • Theoretically, yes. However, with the standard TDEE calculators only factoring static things like gender, age, height, weight and number of times you exercise, there are still a lot of variables like the type of exercising that you do and differences in physiology.
  • I jokingly complained about this to my husband--he has lost a lot of his tummy and now I can't lie across the couch and rest my head on his stomach anymore. Poor me!
  • Hi socioseguro--have you been at TDEE-10% maintenance for a while? I've been considering calculating based on TDEE for maintenance and was curious what your experience has been (I work out 5-6 times a week if it makes a difference).
  • Love them. I make a goat cheese and chicken dish that has them during the winter, and then we put them on our flatbread with some sharp white cheeses and garlic. Yummmm.....
  • Wholeheartedly agree with this! If you're in maintenance, you've discovered through your past weight loss/fitness success that you have to be proactive...exercise is one way that this proactive mindset manifests itself.
  • I hit my deadlift goal for the month (100 lbs, which is my body weight). Also, I went up to 55 lbs on rows! And also, when I was doing my squats yesterday, there was a woman that initially was looking over at me. She started doing bench presses, and I noticed that she did sets of 5...and then when she asked me if I was…
  • I hope they make you a t-shirt that says "Freakishly Strong" on it!
  • I thought I was really good a meal-planning, but having read every post on this thread, I am completely humbled and impressed! I have a full time job, a husband who is an amateur race car driver, and a child who's at soccer practice or a game most nights a week, so it's a necessity for me to plan a week's worth of meals…
  • Anything by Girl Talk. "Non Stop Party Now" is at the beginning of my lift playlist.
  • I was just reading another thread in this forum, and for what it's worth the overall tone in here is more reasonable and calmer than elsewhere. People seem to have more patience and are willing to go in depth into actual discussions about things! Sort of shocking.:flowerforyou:
  • I LOVE list threads! My son's old futsal shoes (they are very minimalist and give you an excellent base) Sports bra Shorts A comfy t-shirt Deodorant Hairbands (one I intended to bring, the other that was left from the last time) Makeup bag Headphones I use the SL app, so don't bring the notebook and pens.
  • For most people, learning how to incorporate "junk" food into the overall diet is part of the overall fitness journey. When I was working of fat loss/getting leaner, I followed an eating plan that was pretty rigorous and I was unhappy. Once I switched to tracking via MFP, I was much happier being able to fit in…
  • I have mostly a supportive family, but the one thing that sort of irks me is when I start talking about fitness/exercise/tracking food, I inevitably get a "there better not be a strong wind or you're liable to blow away." I get that I am petite, and I realize that they really mean it as a compliment, but it would be nice…
  • I put all of my gear out the night before so that I don't have to scramble around for them--everything down to my ponytail holder and head band. When the alarm goes off, I give myself a "everyone else sucks, you rock" pep talk. I also look for something that is fun for me, because it helps to take away the "dread"--and try…
  • Age: 40 Height: 5 ft Before: 113 (March 2013) After: 100 (May 2013) Best strategy for removing weight: I was actually more concerned with fat loss and overall fitness. I did the Les Mills Combat program for 60 days, and initially followed their nutrition guide but the "rounding down" of calories always had me at 1200. I…
  • I hit my goal weight in May (Mother's Day, to be exact), and have not only been maintaining since then, but I have actually lost inches. Right now, I am still exercising 6 days a week like I was in loss mode, but have upped my calories and have added Stronglifts 5x5. The whole trial-and-error involved with increasing…
  • This thread make me smile so much--you are SO awesome!
  • I know! I am stuck too. In fact, I am probably going to develop some sort of complex about them because I hit my chin with the bar today. Usually, I am really good about my form but I was all sorts out of wack today. :(
  • I have done both Tapout XT and Les Mills Combat. I've enjoyed both, and in fact my husband is working through Tapout XT. Actually, earlier this year, Tapout XT2 was released and looks to be even more intense than the original (there is an additional weighted ball with handles that comes with the set). Re: The Les…
  • I was almost completely distracted by your Lady Rainicorn sports bra (LOVE)! You look fantastic!
  • I actually weighed the bar we have at home (I usually lift at the gym at work during a late lunch break). It was 30 lbs (and not 45). No wonder my deadlifts and OHPs were on point!:blushing: Finally getting some good gains. July was a big travel/vacation month for my family so I deloaded for my first sessions after coming…
