Bumping… any thoughts?

Well? Anyone?

Thanks, RodaRose! I appreciate it!

Ditto above. I sometimes buy a menu plan from Happy Herbivore that is already made to fit 1,200 calories a day. And you can cook the week's meals in a couple of hours if you like to have them ready ahead of time. I don't follow it exactly, but I love how filling the meals are, and they aren't too hard to adapt for a…

Someone just had to say that! My brother lived on about $20 a week at one point. Not a lot of variety and not very healthy, but poor student makes frugal easier. Our family of 5 eats for just over $500 a month. The more people you feed, the lower your cost per person is, because you can justify (and afford) big bulk…

I can't. But I imagine you'll get lots of good advice and some not-as helpful. Good luck!

My guess is that 1) you are overestimating your exercise calories or 2) you are having too many days of eating over what you actually burn. Going to see if I can see your diary on my iPod.

Come on! I can't be the only one!

I think there are two kinds of hunger. One is just the twinge that grows if you think about it. The other is a legitimate, blood-sugar-is-low-and-I-must-eat feeling. I got the latter in church today, and because the sermon was long, I didn't eat for over an hour after I first felt the sensation, which continued to…

I'm just getting back in to MFP after not using it for a while. Here's how I plan to work it: I will do my best to stick to more or less my calorie budget when I'm at home. If I'm away from home, I will do my best to plan ahead (like taking a meal when I go shopping, or getting a subway sandwich, which is pretty easy to…

I plan my meals the day before, or before breakfast at the latest. I plan about how many calories per meal and work out whatever is on the menu (I make a menu plan to save money and sanity) ahead of time. Then I take my portion and eat it. I eat two larger meals, but I know a lady here who was eating 1000 calories a day,…

I was feeling tired last night and just ate a whole bunch of food (probably 1000 calories) that I didn't need in the evening. Still felt full at bedtime. I normally eat two meals a day (known commonly as intermittent fasting), and I wasn't really hungry. Just tired. You know, emotional eating. Anyway, I am over it. Back on…

There is a graphic I saw once showing what a certain number of calories of salad, oil, and something else looked like in a stomach. The oil was a puddle at the bottom, whereas the salad filled the whole stomach! This page gives you an idea of what 200 calories of different foods look like:…

Excellent stuff! I like it best to sweeten sour things (like lemonade or cranberry sauce); savory/sweet like pumpkin cookies, not so much. Anyhow, it's been shown to help even out blood pressure, making it doubly helpful for diabetics. But don't get the Truvia or anything that has a close ratio to sugar. Get the white…

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you're fine. Don't stress over it. You're getting more protein than you need with 17%. If you want to know by what authority I say this, pm me. I don't want to get into a big argument with all the people who think lots of protein is important. I don't have time for that. If you're…

Look at every large population group in recorded history. What did they eat? Lots of carbs. And how did they look? I'm not talking about Egyptian pharaohs, either. They ate like we (Americans) do, got fat like we do, and died of the same diseases that we do. I'm talking about the average person. Think of most Asians who…

I agree with your wife. I was just reading about someone on a low-carb diet that discovered that she was suddenly tired all the time, did some research, and figured out what it was. She wasn't low-carbing intentionally, but she was on a special diet and was skipping some of the carbs allowed because her family didn't like…

And I'm back. But I think I'm not going to share the ideas I had here. If you want to hear them, pm me. I'm not a dietician or nutritionist, but I am taking a course in natural hygiene, and diet is one of the issues that we have been covering very thoroughly, and it's backed up by science. So pm me if you're interested, or…

I don't really care for what the government puts out. Seems like every year they come out with a new guideline. When I was in my teens it was the food pyramid. I remember learning about it on the back of cereal boxes (which proudly inserted a picture of their brand into the bottom of it, of course!). Before that it was the…

Have you ever thought of trying a vegetarian diet with no added oil? I know that might sound radical, but here's the thing. Fat takes a fewer calories to store than carbohydrates do. Watch the movie Forks Over Knives and you'll see what I'm talking about. Our family has always been vegetarian, and we're not vegan even yet…

Because I am doing Insanity, and therefore figure I need some extra protein (or at least need to make my minimum goal on workout days), I am using some whey protein I bought at Costco. I use half a scoop with either yogurt or soymilk (I can't stand plain cow's milk) and a banana, blended in my Magic Bullet. It is quick and…

Without reading all the responses, I would say first, what is your goal? Unless you are exercising intensely (like heavy lifting or maybe Insanity-level cardio), you probably don't need more than 15% protein. Seriously. Protein is overrated around here. (I'm vegetarian too.) That said, the days I go over my protein goal…

I'm not an expert by any means, so you can take this with a grain of salt--or use it as a springboard for more research. A while back I discovered shapesense.com. They have all kinds of calculators there. I did a couple of tests to test my VO2max (indicates a level of fitness), and they were pretty close to the same. You…

How intense are you talking? I've heard good things about Focus T25, which is only 25 minutes. But I've never done it. I plan on getting it some day, because I don't have all day to exercise, and 25 minutes of focus is much easier for me to handle. I like intense. I'm doing Insanity right now while my husband is home for a…

This is sound advice. But followed by this... Where does this stuff come from? I mean, all those exercises are great, but they are only going to give you a sixpack under the flab, not get rid of the flab. Follow the first advice.

Unless you're doing a low-carb diet (which I would never do for a lot of reasons), then eat the fruit. Fruit has a lot of micronutrients that you won't get otherwise. The idea that an apple (or a banana) a day can keep the doctor away is there for a reason. Also, if you are doing certain kinds of exercise, you really do…

Yeah, most of my goals are non-weight loss too. I have inches goals (getting my waist to 28" so I can wear a skirt I made before I was married), push up goals, the dream of being able to do pull ups, finishing Insanity. That, and to stay in shape and set a good example for my 3 kids. And someday I have a dream of…

I mostly cook from scratch. I have put some of my favorite recipes on my blog at http://lifeofahappymom.com/blog/topics/cooking/recipes/ I'm vegetarian, so what I eat looks different. I don't avoid much, other than meat, but I make treats a very rare thing, and pretty much don't buy processed foods. Probably the biggest…

Have you ever considered finding a church? If there is one near you, you could find a lot of friends there.

I believe there is wisdom in this. I eat a lot of carbs (well over 50%), but I rarely eat white ones. Whole grain all the way. I also avoid gluten because of nursing baby. You might want to consider cutting out gluten. That might be what's doing it. GF eating is not necessarily low carb, so if it's gluten that is the…
