Thank you all for your suggestions! I ended up making the Fitbit jump and I'm happy with it. I think they're a little overzealous when it comes to how long the batter lasts - definitely NOT 5 days, but it's not horrible so not a huge deal. Thanks again!

Hello everyone! I just got my Charge last night (1/14) and I'm already addicted! I love that it automatically links my progress. I'm a former Polar user and while I still think Polar has great products, for everything that Fitbit offers, it's a no-brainer and worth the money! Please, feel free to add me. Looking to build a…

Accuracy means the world to me.

My Polar is malfunctioning thanks to my daughter who accidentally tossed it across a room. So I need to purchase something new regardless. If I stick with the Polar, I will be upgrading. So I thought I'd explore whether it was better to stick with Polar AND get a Fitbit clip, or just use the Fitbit Charge.

I got to Anytime Fitness and it's $15/month plus $20/month for my husband. I'm usually there 3-5 times per week.

I'll add my two cents. I have psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis in my lower spine - walking is my God-send and saving grace. I would rather run, but that's not in the cards for me at this point. My Ortho, Rheumy and GP ALL recommend walking vs being on an elliptical or bike. That's in large part due to my…

I split my time - weight training first and then cardio.

You will love hiking on Bear Mountain. I grew up in Central Valley (Monroe-Woodbury) and we used to go hiking there all the time when I was a kid. It's gorgeous! Another good one to try is Sugar Loaf Mountain up by Chester.

I can see unfriending people who aren't active, or have different views, etc. But because they've got more to lose than you do, that's childish. I can see unfriending someone who eats crappy and then has to work their tail off to burn those calories off because obviously, they're not taking this seriously. Or someone who…

^^^Like^^^^ OMG - I couldn't agree more! I don't know why some people have to be so negative.

That's not necessarily true. Don't assume. Jaimie Bernhardt is proof of that. She wasn't born with the body that she has. She packed on 30lbs of lean muscle to get the body that she has. So unless you know for a fact, don't assume that you do. Btw, your statement is similar to what an overweight person would say about a…

Too funny! Normally I would agree with you 100% but unfortunately, it's not the case at all times. A friends of mine (who is a body builder and personal trainer) is engaged to fitness model Jaimie Bernhardt. She's just as beautiful in person as she is in her photos. I don't think there's much photoshopping that needs to be…

Ask any nutritionist and they will tell you that it's the worst thing you can do. My friend did it and while she did lose weight, she's now what they call "skinny fat".

Flax had many other health benefits... Those are actually what I use it for.

Cold-milled flax seed. It's a natural laxative that helps keep you regular and full.

I guess I don't get what you're getting at. If you're implying that she doesn't know what she's talking about, I assure you, she does. She's worked with professional athletes and owns the facility. Her resume and clients speak for themselves. Besides, I'm not one of those clients that just goes by what I'm told. I do my…

I'm sorry but you couldn't be more wrong. There are fitness and health experts who would seriously die of laughter after having read this... I would know because I let my trainer read it and she's still shaking her head.

I used to always do my cardio first until a trainer suggested that I do it last. It makes sense. Muscles burns more calories than fat so if you do your cardio AFTER your strength training you're being more productive. I have talked to several trainers and nutritionist and they all agree.

^^^^ She is absolutely right! ^^^^^^

I would guess that they're not using an HRM. I use my Polar and in 30 minutes, I burned 250 calories. It does depend on the amount you're exerting yourself (the higher end of the hr scale will burn more calories) and how much you weigh.

My husband is very supportive but he also hasn't quite figured out that this is a lifestyle change, so there are times that I can eat something that someone who is "dieting" cannot. If I truly want something, I earn it! We went to Olive Garden for our Anniversary and you better believe that I was at the gym busting my butt…

There's this house mix by Bad Boy Bill - Bang the Box II. It's about an hour long and my favorite thing to listen to while doing cardio... never check the time or anything when it's playing. other than that... I Like That by Richard Vission Birthday Cake by Rhianna. Pretty Girl Rock by Keri Hilson

Do share your technique.... This might help with my aversion to them.

Hummus! I had tried it once and didn't like it. I now LOVE it! However, I have discovered that I do not like all hummus. There is only one brand that I like. I discovered this after wasting about $15 trying other brands... yuck! I've had some things that I've developed an aversion to though. For instance, I have always…

My grandfather used to love liver and onions... when he had his heart attack he had eaten liver and onions for dinner that night. My grandma hasn't cooked it since... that was 25 years ago. lol. I've never had any desire to try it... never will. You enjoy it though! lol

Adipose (fat) and muscle are two different types of tissue. One can't simply turn into the other. The only way to get rid of adipose tissue is liposuction so what we strive for is to shrink the adipose tissue that we do have and tone muscle at the same time.

The Food and Drug Administration has evaluated the contents of water and in its pure form, distilled or not, it has ZERO calories. I've taken Bio Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology and I can assure you, I've never seen in any of my texts where H2O has calories. It's completely absurd.
-
It's a trial and error type of thing... test it out and see what works best for you. I've had to try to eliminate my late night snack because no matter how well I'm doing, if I have a late night snack, it sticks with me. It's not an absolute science; everyone is different and so it becomes trial and error.

I couldn't agree more! It's not about chasing the scale, it's about becoming healthier all together. I may be at my heaviest, but I have much more endurance than I did when I was 24 and about 70 lbs lighter. That excites me because I know that when I do get to my end goal, not only will I have reached it, but I will be the…

Muscle doesn't weight more than fat. A pound of fat weighs the same as a pound of muscle.
