  • Have you talked to your mom about how her overeating affects you? Also, ask her to stop buying ice cream and keeping it in the freezer. Ask her if she can go out for ice cream when she wants some.
  • You should be proud of all the weight you've lost! Stop beating yourself up and celebrate what you've accomplished. You can always find something to be unhappy about if you take a magnifying glass to it. Try magnifying one of your positive qualities and see what happens. Keep in mind that this choice to focus on the…
  • I would say, always go with Bodymedia fit calories burned, not Runtastic. In my experience, Bodymedia is very accurate. Start using your bodymedia armband for a few days and see how many calories you're burning. I set up my calorie goal based on how many calories I burn in a day based on bodymedia without exercise, just…
  • Of course you're hungry! You're eating too much junk food and this will not keep you satisfied in the long run. Potato chips for breakfast? Ice cream sandwich for lunch? A triple smoothie yogurt pouch for lunch? Oreo McFlurry for dinner? All of that crap is way too high in processed sugar and carbs with hardly any protein…
  • Welcome back to MFP! To me, it sounds like your "calories burned from normal daily activity" sounds a bit high, unless you have an active job/daytime activity where you are on your feet during your 9-5. Under your "diet profile," how did you describe your normal daily activities? Sedentary, Lightly Active, Active, or Very…
  • The same exact thing has been happening to me lately. I find if I have about 1000 calorie deficit at the end of the day, sometimes I will wake up hungry or can't go to sleep due to hunger. Instead, it helped to reduce my deficit to only 500 calories/day. In general, I make room for a snack just before bed that is high in…
  • Return the size 10 in exchange for the size 14 and have it altered.
  • I disagree with number 4: "4. Cardio won't make you "toned". Actually, if you only do cardio, you have a good chance of looking really flabby and gross. Cardio is excellent for heart and cardiovascular health, but it will not give you a ripped, lean body. "…
  • I've noticed that MFP overestimates calories burned, if you're logging your workouts. So, in addition to potentially under reporting your intake, your calories burned may be overestimated as well. I would seriously consider buying a device that will more accurately estimate calories burned. It helps take the guesswork out…
  • Height: 5' 3" Age: 34 Highest weight: 260 lbs Current weight: 195 lbs Lowest Weight: 125 lbs in high school, but I had hardly any muscle. With my current muscle mass, 150 should be more appropriate, especially considering that I plan to gain more muscle. Goal weight: 150 lbs
  • I don't know about cheap shoes - anything I would call cheap, I wouldn't trust on my feet. I wear five-fingered Vibram shoes. They are the most amazing shoes I've ever worn. They are super comfortable, have built up my arches, improved my balance, decreased my knee pain and built up the overall muscles in my feet. I wear…
  • I can relate. My friend was recently diagnosed as gluten intolerant. Apparently she gets really sick whenever she goes back on it. As a result, she has lost a huge amount of weight. What bothers me is that she actually complains about the fact that her clothes don't fit her anymore (they're all too big), and even her…
  • I used to wake up to my cell phone alarm and program a message on there that would say inspiring things like, "Good morning, beautiful." or "Today will be a good day." "If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. It's the hard that makes it great." "You can do this." I also imagine my legs getting stronger, and the fat…
  • 1. Increase your protein - it will help you feel more full. The same with fiber from fruits and veggies. NOT juice, but the whole fruits/veggies. Increase your water intake. 2. Time your meals. Do your workout just before you're going to eat a big meal, like lunch or dinner. That way you don't have to worry about an extra…
  • Work in San Francisco, live in the East Bay.
  • I'm a little bit baffled that you were able to lose 1/2 lb to 1 lb per day. In order to do so you would need to maintain a deficit of 1750 to 3500 calories PER DAY. How much were you were working out? If you ate 1500 calories per day, you'd have to burn upwards of 3250 calories on the days you lost 1/2 lb, and a 5000…
  • Added some "twins" already, but thought I should post my stats too! Age: 34 Female 5'3" HW 215 SW 199 CW 196.5 GW 150 (but will reassess)
  • Yes, definitely the synced data. Keep in mind if you had any "off body" time and logged what you did, the computer data will reflect that, but not the display. I think that the system may also estimate your off body time automatically, so you don't end up with zero cal/min during off body time.
  • Oh it's totally a secret club! Thanks for introducing yourself and for the boost in motivation! I lost 40 lbs about 3 years ago and thanks to injuring my knee, I lost the one cardio I could stick to - running. 20 lbs slowly crept back on, but now I'm here and I'm ready to get moving again and focusing on better health.
  • Pancake recipe: 1 ripe banana + 2 eggs = pancakes! Whole batch = about 250 cals. Add a dash of cinnamon and a tsp. of vanilla! Top with fresh berries!
  • I'm looking forward to the new products they develop as a result. I could only imagine that they will be better.
  • What are you using to track your calorie burn? How do you know when it's high enough?
  • I just wanted to add that we actually burn calories when our bodies break down the food we eat. "Each macronutrient takes a different amount of energy to breakdown, absorb, and use. Protein is the most complex macronutrient and, therefore, takes the most energy." Carbohydrates are the next, and fat is the least complex to…
  • I hate it too. You're totally not alone. People DO stare at the larger people, as much as others want to say they don't, they're wrong. You just have to tough it out and push through. Eventually you will start to make progress and not feel so alienated. It helps me to bring a friend to the gym to work out or even take a…
