Yes, definitely eat something light before you work out and make sure you have something to drink. I teach classes in the morning and make sure I fuel up about an hour ahead with cereal and fruit and milk.

I found that when I switched to maintenance mode and kept to the calories MFP said I could have, I was still losing weight. So I would tell MFP that I exercised 10 more minutes than I actually did every day, and then the calories I was allowed maintained my weight.
