  • I lost 70 pounds with MFP. I've been in maintenance for three years. I struggle from time to time with maintenance but it's all free, and it's all on me to succeed, or fail. What have you got to lose, except for excess weight. Good Luck.
  • It doesn't matter
  • You may be trying to run too fast. Then again you may just be out of shape. Take it slow and you will improve with time. Just keep in mind. If you are out there you are running laps around those who sit home on the couch. Keep it up you're doing well.
  • Ever think about swimming? This use to be my cardio fix, but now it's running.
  • Just a thought: I have a pair of Bluetooth earbuds that I don't like so I usually stick with the ones that have a cord. To avoid catching the cord I simply run it under my shirt and then plug it in to my phone, which I keep on my belt clip. When I used an arm band I simply ran the cord under my shirt and out my sleeve.…
  • I would suggest going with the lower estimate. If you are trying to lose weight it will help. If you are in maintenance and are losing weight then up the estimate until you hit your maintenance.
  • On the days I lift I do light cardio, if any. On the days I do serious cardio I don't lift. I'm just to old and decrepit to do other wise (57 years old).
  • The only people who would ever laugh at an obese runner are those who wolf down pizza and beer while sitting on the couch. No real runner, or person who works out on a regular basis, will ever laugh/make fun of another individual who is out there working out. When I started running I still needed to lose about 50 pounds…
  • Very true. If you don't monitor your calories/weight it can easily get away from you.
  • My question to you is: What's your hurry? It seems you are progressing quite nicely at .6 pounds a week. If you go more restrictive you can end up in a binge. Why take the risk. Slow and easy wins the game.
  • If what you want to do is walk simply drive to the nearest Walmart, preferably between midnight and 8AM. Start doing laps. I suggest the times as this is when you will encounter fewer people to slow you down. Do laps for an hour if that's your goal then drive home. Problem solved. You will likely only burn a couple hundred…
  • Retired LEO here. Best bet is to keep some snacks in your patrol bag or glove box. Small bags of nuts are good as well as granola bars or protein bars. I always looked for something under 200 calories that I could keep in the glove box for several months and not worry about it going bad (or melting). Jerky is also good.…
  • I lost 70 pounds. I must say I found it rather easy. I just start logging every day. Log everything you eat. Set your goal to lose .5 pounds a week. That is a very modest and doable deficit. If you can eat a bit less then you will lose a bit quicker (I did). By setting the weight loss bar so slow you will achieve a couple…
  • No one knew I was losing weight or counting calories until they noticed the weight dropping. When asked I simply responded "yea, I've lost a few pounds." When asked how I was losing I simply replied eating less and moving more. As far as social situations I can eat and drink with the best of them. I plan for those…
  • Since you have apparently seen your doctor and he said you were fine, simply ignore it. I'm pretty much bald. My parents, grand parents and all of my uncles, but one, have full hair. I might add my dad is in his 80's with a full head of hair. Going bald doesn't hurt, and saves money on shampoo so don't sweat it. I just…
  • What jumped out to me in the OP was that she is always tired. First address that issue. Lack of sleep is one trigger for over eating. Make sure you can get 8-10 hours at night. If you are already getting enough sleep, then start logging everything you eat (you should start this regardless of the sleep issue). Next set MFP…
  • You don't lack motivation, what you lack is discipline. Motivation is what gets you started. Discipline is what keeps you going. Focus on that a bit and put yourself back on track.
  • Maybe I am hopelessly optimistic but I believe NO ONE needs surgery to lose weight. Eat at a modest deficit and you WILL lose weight. Note I stated MODEST deficit. This will make weight loss a bit slower, but will avoid any ill effects such as metabolism issues. The 95% stat you mention is true, and not true. It is true…
  • When I was fat I always bought the relaxed fit jeans cuz, well, I was fat. after losing 70 pounds I still buy the relaxed fit jeans because, well, I like to be comfortable. I did by a pair of regular jeans, not slim fit, and my boys didn't like them, also at 56 my butt sags so they didn't feel right. Relaxed fit for me.…
  • It's your overall calorie intake over time, not day to day. The closer you are to your maintenance calories the slower you will lose. Like the above post stated. As long as you are in a calorie deficit you will lose.
  • I weigh daily because I like the data. My weight can fluctuate day to day. I've had up to five pounds increase in a day. When I get large fluctuations it is usually easily accounted for with my diary. Oh yea I had pasta and then ate pretzels. Salt and carbs, yep that will do it. The weight comes of in the next day or two…
  • If you don't like your coffee black you probably are not doing it right. Buy good coffee. Use a good coffee maker, or better yet a french press. If you are drinking well made good coffee, and still don't like it black then go with something you do like. Tea perhaps? I have a policy that I don't drink my calories (with the…
  • If I get a good workout I am usually pretty pooped at the end. The feeling great part comes later. Not sure what you mean by feeling un easy. What I mean the feeling great part comes later is that after I catch my breath and stop sweating. I then feel great and that feeling continues.
  • Stop exercising for two or three days while continuing your calorie deficit. It will come off. You are exercising a lot which means your body is in a constant state of repair which means you are likely retaining water. Taking a few days off from the gym will allow your body to repair itself and release the retained water.…
  • First off you CAN eat whatever you want. You just need to stay within your calorie goals. I lost 70 pounds and ate whatever I wanted. I've kept the weight off for almost 3 years so far. I still eat whatever I want. Maybe you need to adjust your thinking. What you do is go on a diet then revert to your old ways once you…

  • Call me crazy but if you crave some KFC and can enjoy it while staying on track what's the problem?
  • Are you losing weight? If so there is no problem. If not then you are eating too much. Don't worry about how fast you are losing. You did not gain the weight over night, so don't expect to lose it over night.
  • I had a chocolate chip cookie for breakfast. Do I feel guilty. Nope. I wish it wasn't the last one in the house. Point is there is nothing wrong with a treat. There is nothing wrong with eating tasty "unhealthy" food. Just log it and keep under your goals and you will meet your goals. The worst thing to do for weight loss…
  • I set my MPF to sedentary then log my exercise. The days I work out I get more calories. The days I sit on the couch and watch TV I get less calories. No problems maintaining for me.
