Since I'm in maintenance I usually weigh about once a week, but I'm sorta getting tired of bothering with it, so after the holidays I'll probably drop back to 1-2 times a month. Unless I see a trend of losing or unintentionally gaining, I don't see any reason to give it much thought outside of the infrequent weigh-in.

It's generally accepted that the sugar settings on MFP should be disregarded in most instances. Unless you're monitoring carbs for a medical reason, don't worry about it.

Dude, I am/was in the same boat as you, right down to the "stop losing weight, eat a burger, etc." comments and lower abdomen loose skin. My starting weight was around 260 lbs (at 6'2") and I'm currently bouncing around in the 155-160 lb range. Throughout the weight loss, the loose skin on my lower abdomen became more…

While Thanksgiving or Christmas can certainly derail dieting efforts in the short-term, I think the real problem is the colder weather which forces many people to cut back on outdoor exercise and keeps them indoors and when you're cooped up inside in the warmth with it being cold outside, what do you want to do? EAT So, a…

Unfortunately, as in other aspects of life, crap happens. I know all too well how quickly 10, 20 or 30+ lbs can sneak up, especially if you haven't been consistent in monitoring your weight and slacking off in regards to keeping a handle on how much you're eating. Seeing as how you've been successful at losing weight in…

You won't believe how many times I've been asked that since I started maintaining. I don't know if it's because I wear clothes that fit me a lot better now, or what the deal is, but it seems like I get asked this at almost every family gathering or whenever someone I only see intermittently comes over to my house. Even…

I just use a simple Taylor food scale that I bought at Target for like $25. I've been using it for a few months and it seems to work great. I know that it was very interesting to see how an actual serving size looked, after weighing it out, compared to what my perception of a serving size of that particular food was. I…

Unless you have a medical condition where it's necessary to monitor and restrict your carb intake, don't worry about it.

I have personally stuck with the same workouts, only now that I'm in maintenance I try to eat back some or all of my exercise calories. It works for me.

I have this great recipe for acorn squash that's really easy: 1. Cut squash into cubes or slices 2. Place into steamer 3. Steam until the cubes are tender enough to pierce with a fork or knife. 4. Enjoy with a dash of pepper!

Until this year, I used to view the holidays as the time of the year where healthy lifestyle habits go to die and that Thanksgiving and Christmas were the inevitable death knell for a nutritious diet and exercise. So, I stopped giving a rat's *kitten* about eating healthfully and watching my weight. This year is going to…

Since I had quite the prominent gut before I lost weight, I have noticeable stretch marks on my abdomen. I have a few on my arms as well, but less severe. I don't do anything about them. I see them as the scars of a hard-fought battle and a reflection of how far I've come.

I absolutely have days where I enjoy something that's not part of my regular diet, usually every couple of weeks on Thursday or Friday. I enjoy baking, so I elect to bake whatever tickles my fancy and indulge on those days. The way I see it, you're not going to be getting a gold star for being "pure" or "clean" with your…

About the time I reached my goal weight, my father cornered me while we were on a road trip and gave me a nice tongue lashing about my weight. I guess a family friend had seen me out in public from afar and mentioned in passing to my dad that I "didn't look right." Since I don't see my dad very often (we mostly talk on the…

When I was actively logging I became mildly obsessed, especially when it came time for me to move into maintenance. I became so fixated on reaching the daily goal that MFP had set for me, that I was constantly logging in and checking my diary to make sure that I was eating the exact portion of the food I had logged for…

I don't have a full-fledged cheat day, but I definitely treat myself to homemade ice cream, cake, etc. every week or two. Nothing is a cheat per say, just a less nutritious way to get calories.

In the past, this has always been the time of year when I put on quite a bit of weight. This year, however, I'm coming into winter having maintained my current weight (after losing earlier in the year) over the past few months and I'm hoping to just continue with what I've been doing so far. What's gotten me into trouble…

I get around 350-400 grams a day of carbs and about 70-80 grams of fiber to go with it. Most of my carbs come from fresh fruits and veggies or beans (which I eat a lot of), but I'll occasionally have some Annie's graham crackers or a pb&j sandwich. I've had great success both losing and maintaining weight eating like this,…

Yes that's fine, in fact I usually have something similar for dinner (500-600 grams of vegetables) along with something like kidney beans or tofu for protein. No, that's not too many veggies, unless you can't tolerate the fiber and it's what you eat the rest of the day along with dinner that's going to affect whether or…

Beans, tofu, tempeh, nuts, etc. could also use whey or hemp, rice, etc. protein powder if you want to go that route. The majority of my diet is plant-based (I might eat meat every couple of months) and have no problems getting over 100 grams of protein a day.

I stopped logging over a month ago as for me it had worn out its usefulness and I was becoming overly obsessed with numbers. Now the only time I look at my diary is to view the nutrition facts for some of my recipes. You're more than welcome to add me, and I'd love to chat with you about moving away from logging.

Yes, in some cases it's preventable, some cases it's not. Regardless of whether or not you have a family history of diabetes, it is of the utmost important to be active, eat a nutritious diet, maintain a healthy weight and exercise. It's also probably in your best interest, especially if you have a family history of…

You will have to experiment to find what works best for you and your body. On running mornings I usually have something like 1/2 cup of oatmeal, a couple tbs of peanut butter, and a little dark chocolate for breakfast (which is about 2-3 hours before I run). I used to have everything mentioned plus a serving of All-Bran…

Once I dropped below 200 lbs my collarbone started to become visible and it got even more visible the more weight I lost. When I hit my target weight, that's when it became visible enough for people who don't see me very often to give me the "you're too skinny" line, even though I'm at a healthy weight. Again, collarbones…

Yup, this hit the nail on the head perfectly. Weight fluctuations are normal and inevitable while in maintenance, there's no way that you can weigh exactly the same every single day. However, if you find your weight to be consistently trending upwards, then it's probably about time to reassess your caloric intake. Even in…

I was never really taught anything about food. We always had the usual boxes of Little Debbies and such sitting in the kitchen, which I visited frequently throughout the day. For breakfast, I had Eggo waffles every morning with a very generous portion of maple syrup and butter. Dinner usually consisted of something that…

I've been a victim of the yo-yo effect in the past. Where I always went wrong was returning to old habits as soon as I had achieved the desired results via the "diet" that I was on. It never took long for the weight to come back, either, as I usually started regaining within the first month or two of abandoning the diet.…

As long as it fits into your calorie goals and you eat a varied diet throughout the course of the day, having the same things for breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc. everyday shouldn't pose a problem. In fact, sticking with the same foods or similar ones consistently makes calorie tracking a lot easier.

Typically, 500-1000 depending on my activity levels for the day. I love a good, hardy meal at the end of a long day.

My body can still tolerate bad/dirty/junk/whatever nefarious term you want to use food and I still enjoy eating it, I've just become more reasonable in the way I go about eating it. I know it's not something to eat every day, but I won't deprive myself from indulging every week or two. As long as it fits within your…
