I'm coming up on a 1-year anniversary where I've lost whatever the ticker says without deliberately cutting carbs. That said, I do target a minimum intake for protein and fat which can leave not a lot of room for carbs, at least when I pursued a more aggressive calorie deficit.

It's not that important, don't worry about it. The main thing is to use what you've learned here to measure accurately going forward.

As I mentioned in a prior post, if you want those entries to be accurate, then type in "1.33" in the number of servings field. If this is confusing or causes any sort of distress for some reason, forget about it and move on. It's not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things.

Two ways to weigh: 1) If you put your container on the scale, then turn the scale on, it should start at 0. Mine does, and it's a fairly simple one so I assume that's standard. If it doesn't, then... 2) Turn on scale, put container on scale. Note the reading of the container (let's say it's 1.5 ounces). Put ice cream in.…

I've read articles that claim that green tea can have some metabolism boosting effects, in addition to some other benefits I won't bother to list. Personally I just drink the amount of tea and coffee that I like to have and would not increase consumption for purposes of weight loss. I'm certainly not going to cut that…

You've made a compelling case for a food scale. Ice cream is a perfect example of something that should be weighed (oz or grams) and not based on volume (cups or liters). As you showed, you can pack it more densely to get more servings per volume. If you want to be accurate, I would indeed multiply the ice cream you've…

Congrats! You should feel good about your time too. When I finished c25k last Fall it took me about 45-50 minutes to actually run the full 5k distance.

I don't think there's a hard cap on the max number of friends and even if there is a hard cap I'll never come close to approaching it, so I'll never delete anyone for inactivity.

Canadian bacon is a protein nuke. If I have this in the morning, I have no problem hitting my ambitious protein goals.

Trader Joe's, as mentioned previously, has some mighty fine options. My personal favorite is the lamb vindaloo. I also give my approval to Marie Callendar's, Ethnic Gourmet and Saffron Road. Evol is decent too. The others I've had, at least among the big names, blech.

The one that's on sale. Why? I like saving money and the difference between the best almond milk and the worst is hard to discern.

My take-away from this is that the OP's friends have terrible taste. Who goes to Chick-Fil-A and says "This place sucks, let's go to McDonald's"????? CFA is simply tiers above McDs.

Flexibility is my main issue right now. Unfortunately, one finds the same cardio and/or lifting topics repeated in these forums but little to nothing devoted to flexibility. So I just ended up Googling flexibility and stretching and picked something for every muscle group, maybe 2-3 different stretches for more problematic…

Since the OP asks if anyone does NOT like their FitBit, I'll chime in and raise my hand. I'll clarify that not liking it doesn't mean that I dislike it, I'm just apathetic about it. I don't credit the device with helping lose a single ounce since I bought it and if I could do it all over, I'd spend that money on something…

Lentils, split peas and certain wraps (Joseph's Pita for example) all have very good protein + fiber.

Those Butterfinger PB cups are legit. Here is my ultimate kryptonite. If I can limit myself to 1 serving in a day, I consider it a major win. I've been pretty good about limiting serving portions of my "problematic" favorites since I started losing weight except for Vanilla Tootsies. Once I have some, I just can't stop…

My rule of thumb: 1 week of disappointing weight loss: shrug your shoulders and keep doing the right things 2 weeks of disappointing weight loss: say "hmmmm" and think about what you may change if your next week is also disappointing 3 weeks of disappointing weight loss : make the change A quick glance of your diary gives…

Back in early April of 2013 I was 340 pounds. Lately I've been bouncing around the 213-215 range. I can tell I'm going to have a long, protracted battle with the mid-section. While the belly is a bummer, it is still very satisfying to have an entirely different health profile today than I did 10 months ago.

I don't rememberer seeing it mentioned (maybe it was) but lentils and split peas are a very solid source of protein, fiber too. I sneak in some extra protein with some types of pita bread, specifically from Joseph's, though other brands may work too. Jerky is a snack I'll eat if I find myself behind on my protein target.…

So tell me about the "One Card". J/k, great work, congrats.

Excellent list. Just so you know, there's a group for craft beer fans here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/11910-craft-beer-and-home-brewing I've been neglecting my favorite beers over the past few months but I'm one of the few people on the planet whose New Year's resolution included "drink more beer" as I aim to…

There have been a few "buy good coffee and drink it black" suggestions and I want to ditto them. Quality, freshly roasted beans don't need their flavors masked by sweetener and milk. Personally, I do add a Splenda and a dash of half and half when having a more pedestrian cup from some place like Dunkins, Tim Horton's or…

April 2013, it's my "before" picture when I started changing diet/exercise. I might change it when I reach goal weight.

Among frozen pizzas, I'm a big fan of American Flatbread. Also evol. Not sure if either are available nationally though, that is if your nation is USA.

Finally, someone with the right answer.

Very very cool. I like how you and I had divergent approaches in a lot of ways, for example I've been very goal oriented during weight loss while you were not, yet we both still ended up in a much much better place. I think the lesson is that one needs to approach weight loss in a way they're most comfortable with.

Weight in short term intervals is subject to too many variables to fit neatly into some y = ax + b type model. Water retention (or lack thereof), glycogen storage (and depletion) and, at the risk of being gauche - poop. When I started losing weight, I too wanted to see a neat, reliable weight loss pattern. It didn't take…

The reason I no longer eat fast food is because I can easily find a superior alternative close by that is locally owned (regionally at least), uses fresher ingredients and greater care with food preparation at a competitive price. If I'm on the road and can't research alternatives for the area I'm in, I'll hold my nose and…

Sam, when did the loose skin first show up? By that I mean, how many pounds had you lost when it became noticeable. There aren't many things for which I can say "thanks ma and pa for the genetics" but so far, after a 115 pound loss in 9 months, I don't have any loose skin. I'm wondering if I won the genetic lottery or if…
