  • Deadlifted 315 pounds (6 45 lb plates) for 5 reps. I've never done that much before (50 yo).
  • Not to trivialize it, because it's not trivial, but losing a large amount is a function of consistency * time. Have you ever gotten to a New Year's Day or birthday and thought, "Where did the time go?" The same is true for major weight los. By being truly consistent*, one day you'll step on the scale and it will be 150…
  • The "damage" amounts to 1/3 of a pound. Learning to move on is crucial to long-term success so I hope you can take this as an opportunity to do so.
  • I lost 150 pounds over the course of about 15 months. Beginning April of 2013 (340 pounds, 6'0): Lowest at July 2014 (a bit less than 190): Unfortunately, I lost focus and got back to 280 pounds in early June of this year. Since then, I've taken a different approach to losing, which has been slower, but consistent and in…
  • Fantastic! You have a truly winning attitude.
  • I'm not sure how to classify last night. I bought a few chocolate bars that I thought sounded interesting, all heavy on the cacao. Around 10pm I found myself wondering "what does 100% cacao taste like?" so I broke off a tiny sliver, maybe 50 calories worth. I had a generous calorie surplus from the day too, so to me, it…
  • I've had days like this. It would be pretty common to see a gain of 2 pounds on the scale the day after. That would break down into 1 pound of temporary weight, water, etc and ~1 pound of fat. So to answer your questions in order. 1. Yes you may have gained something less than a pound of fat. 2. It matters in the sense…

  • This thread actually made a difference for me last night. At around 10pm I got the bright idea to have just a little bit of a nosh but then I thought "NO! I don't want to report a loss on the thread" So Me 3 LNS 0
  • A win last night so, Moi 2 Snack Attack 0
  • Technically, I won the challenge yesterday, even though I consumed a bag of M&Ms (no, not a mini or even serving size, the BIG bag of 8 servings) it was in the afternoon. So..... win? Me 1 LNS 0 Streak 1
  • I normally avoid "challenges" but this particular issue is problematic to me. I haven't been keeping track of timing so far this month, so I'll start with a clean slate at 0-0. My usual is a yogurt snack at about 8pm, so I won't count that.
  • I'm into the cosmic comics, so my favorite, by far, is the Silver Surfer. I can't say I prefer Marvel in general over DC, but I do think Marvel does cosmic better. I pretty much read anything with the Surfer, Galactus, Thanos and an obscure comic I've been reading for years, but I hear is catching on with the masses -…
  • I just wanted to drop a short note to thank Patrick for his time and heartily urge anyone thinking about securing his services but are sitting on the fence about making it happen, that it's well worth it. Patrick provided some feedback I was immediately able to put into use for form improvement on some of the basic lifts…
  • It's as likely a poo issue as anything. My 2 cents (or pence or whatever is your currency), expand your timeframe for when to worry about progress. Personally, I use 2 weeks to get "alarmed", 3 weeks to make a change. Meaning after 1 weeks I'm completely unconcerned, after 2 weeks I'll take notice and think about what…
  • I love my protein shake. *Whatever whey protein powder I have. Usually chocolate or vanilla so I can have flexibility with what I add. (110 cals, 25g protein) *Fairlife milk. Nonfat if I'm looking to consume fewer calories. Chocolate if I'm not. (nonfat is 80 cals, 13 g 'tein) *1 tbsp PB powder (23 cals, 3g protein) *1…
  • While deadlifting today I cut myself a little bit with the bar which cause a tiny amount of bleeding. I'm claiming the "V" part of "NSV" for this because I've read other people discuss their deadlifting cuts, now I've gone through that rite of passage too.
  • I'd get the pulled pork poutine because pulled pork is delicious and poutine is delicious. Well, at least pulled pork from NC is, and poutine from Quebec is, dunno about combining them in Jersey. My for real answer to hit 650 cals would be the turkey-brie wrap. Go easy on the sweet potato fries and that may well be within…
  • I keep a supply of these 5 calorie gelatin containers on hand, for a snack attack. Are they good? Nope, good enough though to take me from a state "must..eat...food...NOW!!!" to turning that switch off. Note - this is for when my planned snacks aren't enough.
  • Interesting to hear about the other ice creams with protein. It only stands to reason that if at least one (Halo Top) is making it with fiber, others would too. I looked over my diary to see if I had any significant sources of fiber not mentioned already. I found the following: Oikos Triple Zero yogurt (6g fiber out of 14g…

  • Also, to answer the OP, I get a big chunk of fiber from my protein bar. Not all brands have it, but when they do it can be substantial (15-20g). See Combat Crunch or Muscletech Mission 1 or Quest bars.

  • Huh (to the bolded)? What ice cream is high fiber? The only one I can think of is Halo Top which is more of a frozen dessert than ice cream, but I'll allow it any way just so the list has at least 1 on it. What's another?

  • Trader Joe's is my go-to for reasonably priced yet still high quality cheese. I love the artisanal shops, but they're 50-100% more than TJ's, I find.
  • I went to an actual cheese parade yesterday. It featured a 400 pound wheel brought in from Italy of Cruculo cheese. I bought some and it was great, very creamy. https://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/2016/11/29/dancers-horses-proclamations-must-concord-cheese-parade/RoZqIeduSZAyIhlXB0IwFN/story.html
  • I've hit a lifting plateau that I just can't seem to break. I've been in a calorie deficit, on the order of 500-1000ish per day, depending on various factors, since I do have weight to lose. My first thought to dealing with the plateau is simply to increase calories. My question is, to increase strength, is it sufficient…
  • I actually tried a cheese recently I was not a fan of - Red Dragon. I don't want to say it was bad, but it had little flexibility. With the mustard included, it was good for sandwiches, good for stand-alone, but not much else (like omelettes).
  • You're my cheese sister. Earlier in the thread I said I basically liked all cheese but blander cheeses are much less interesting. The ones you listed as favorites are high on my list too, especially the pepper ones.
  • I found maintaining much harder. I think one "problem", at least for me, is that it was less exciting. Seeing another 1-3 pounds lost every week was pretty exhilarating at the time. That's only one factor of course. I do think the "freedom" from meticulously tracking was a hindrance too. Meaning I tried to maintain on…
  • Oh, how could I forget - cheese.
  • When I finding myself "needing" to consume some more calories, a serving of almonds, or whatever your preferred type of nut may be, does the trick. At 170ish calories per serving, it adds up quick. If you don't like nuts, then an avocado, guacamole maybe? A protein shake, a can of tuna, a protein bar, these are all things…
  • I have at least .5 oz of cheese each and every day. There's nothing I don't like, but I've grown an affection for products from the British isles.
