There are 2 programs that seem to be really popular here: 1. New Rules of Lifting for Women 2. Strong lifts 5x5 (ignore the macho crap on the official website - find the group on MFP - a much saner way to go) They both seem to be good programs. Me personally, I like JEFIT - another phone app. I'm comfortable in the gym and…

Make my own. Easy, cheap and I can have it as thick as I like!

^^^this. Old school all the way.

To make your natural PB no stir: Stir the oil in using a butter knife - don't worry about getting it perfect. Throw the jar in the microwave for 1 min at high. Stir it again (it will be very soupy), then store wherever you want - fridge, cupboard, bedside table...it will never separate again!

I had a look at your diary. You have a lot of processed foods that are full of fat and sodium, not to mention a fair amount of booze which is just plain empty calories. . While your actual calorie count might be in the right neighbourhood, the science is a little more complicated than that. Try eating more unprocessed…

The above poster is right. Instant oatmeal is expensive and full of processed crap. And, it's not really any faster to make than regular! My favorite breakfast is oatmeal, sliced almonds and blueberries. Throw it all in a bowl with a pinch of salt and some water, microwave for 90sec and add milk and honey. Yum!

I worked nights for years. What I did was firstly, get rid of the labels 'breakfast, lunch' etc and replace them with 'meal 1, meal 2...' Then I decided that my 'day' consisted of the time from when I got up (usually about 5 pm) until when I went to bed (10 am the next day). Yes, it meant that I was frequently logging on…

Becel is not available in the US.

I left for most of the summer to go hiking - same thing happened. Feel free to add me.

Love me some Dawgs...both of the UW and UGA variety!

Chicken sausage (I like the roasted red pepper ones), peppers, mushrooms, carrots and zucchini. Throw it all in a pan with the seasonings of your choice and bake @ 375 for 30 mins. Yum!

I hike year round. In the early spring, I start putting exta weight in my daypack to work back up to backpacking season. I also use the stairclimber at the gym with weight - same daypack I use for hiking. And finally, I backpack as light as I can - I'm not a toothbrush chopping ultralight freak, but there are lots of ways…

Spent 4 days in Hells Canyon, OR last month...climbing Mt Adams next week and then off to the Pasayten wilderness the week following. Happy solstice everyone - the season is well upon us!

Car camping, a Coleman or similar tent will be fine. For backpacking, I prefer a bivy sac and tarp - my fave is the MSR e-wing. My whole set up - bivy, tarp and 15F sleeping bag with liner weighs 4.5lbs - about the weight of most backpacking tents!

I like runkeeper - mostly because it is free, and has a good iPhone interface tha will use the built in gps to judge speed, distance etc. a caveat - I've never actually used it for running, but for hiking, walking and cycling it's great!

37 minutes - holy crap!! The most I've EVER been able to hold was just shy of 2 minutes and it took a good 5 minutes afterwards before I stopped feeling like I was going to pass out. I like doing sets of 45sec - 1 minute. Long enough to work the muscles, not long enough to pass out!

What a great thread! My goals for 2012: 1. Drop my body fat to <25% 2. 1 unassisted pull up 3. Backpack 100miles next summer

There's a group for people from Seattle, also for those generally from the PNW. You should check them out! And welcome!!

What a great article - I've passed it on to a few people. And as a side note, I have a good friend who credits rowing as the one thing that did the most to help her recover from a traumatic brain injury...guess I'd better hit the gym after work today!

I'm getting close to my goal; my plan is to never leave MFP! One of the things I have learned is that in order to be true to myself, I need to write down what I'm eating and keep a running calorie total for the day. Otherwise, I overeat....a lot. So, MFP is easy to use, installed on my phone and on a busy day, takes about…

Yup - it's a problem. Value Village is my friend for a lot of stuff. I also have some friends that have been losing weight and we swap clothes around. And, well...I look at it as a cost of doing business - and my reward for getting my fat butt into shape!! So, I am buying a few new "transitional clothes" - I like to look…
