Running speed
So I've recently completed the c25k program and can run a 5k. Now I need a new challenge, so thought I'd work on my speed. Presently, I run5k in about 36-40 mins (12 min mile approx). I'd like to drop that time to about 30mins (10 min mile). My question is this - how do I get there? Any good apps or brilliant ideas?

hair...and pools
Hey - so I love to swim. All my life it was the one thing I could do better than most people. Now I'm a little older, but not ready to accept the greyer part of life, so I'm colouring my hair. This, the chlorine does not like so much! Does anyone out there have any foolproof ways to stop my beautiful red hair from fading…

midwinter trip
So I live on the Wet coast; near Seattle to be exact. A friend and I were thinking of getting away from the rain for a couple of days, but we need some suggestions. We have 5 days off and want to drive south and camp/hike. We have dogs. Does anyone have any brilliant ideas about where to go within about 18 hours steady…

I've been working hard since January. At the gym 4 days a week, at the pool 2 days a week, rowing 3 days a week, and religiously logging every last bite. And with all my hard work the weight has been coming off, slowly but surely. I figured I got this down. So when the opportunity to study for a month in Mexico came up, my…

the not so fun part of losing weight....sort of!!
So I've lost 52 lbs since this time last year; 36 lbs since I joined MFP. Yay me, right? Absolutely, except my bank account hates me!! One of the great things about losing this weight is that I have been able to get back outside and enjoy the things I really love doing - hiking, climbing, SCUBA, camping etc. So, this…

I'm overweight!!
Weighed myself this morning...down a lb. Plugged the numbers into my handy little BMI calculator to find that it had dropped to 29.9, making me no longer 'obese', but merely 'overweight' - Woohoo!!!!

Hrm in the pool
I'm thinking of getting a heartrate monitor, but have some questions. My primary exercise is swimming. Can I use one in the pool? Will it accurately measure calories spent? What mind will work best? And finally, do I really need one of those chest strap types - does it get in your way or constrict? Thanks for any advice…

Calories burned question?
I'm a swimmer by nature, but trying to mix it up a bit, so I'm doing some treadmill and elliptical work as well these days. My question is this: when I swim, I can pull off a mile in about 35mins. Heartrate is up, I feel like I'm working at a moderately hard pace. On the treadmill/elliptical, to get my heartrate up to the…
