I eat mostly vegan and am trying to get back into it because I was vegan for a few months, so I'll add you :)

Around $50 a week for two people, plus bulk items we bought a few weeks ago and plus produce we sometimes buy at the local farmer's market. But if we make a special trip to Trader Joe's, definitely more, maybe around $100.

Quinoa and lentils!

Way to go!

Awesome job! Congrats!

No, like everyone else has said, carbs do not make you fat. If you go too much over your calories, then carbs will contribute to weight gain (or if you're trying to lose, maybe maintenance). But the thing is, cutting carbs out of your diet can make it harder for you to maintain your weight after you've achieved whatever…
-
Not necessarily. It really just teaches you to buy the products for life, because after going into "maintenance" you gain weight back because you increase your calories, so then you feel like you have to stay in phase one for the rest of your life. My mom is TERRIFIED of grains now. All because of the false information…

Lemon and apple together is awesome. And I think if you throw kale in there for the veggie nutrients, the lemon and apple flavor would disguise the kale a bit.

As far as I know, it has a better reputation than other sweeteners. It can be expensive though, depending on where you buy it, how much you get, and in what form.

My mom's been on it for about a year. She lost 100lbs but when she went into maintenance she gained a little back (obviously) and started freaking out and is now in some mixture of phase one and two or something. I don't really recommend going into ketosis to lose weight. You lose it, but ultimately you need to keep your…

Like others have said, there are options. I highly recommend lentils, maybe making lentil soup or looking up a recipe for vegan lentil burgers. Quinoa has a lot of protein and you can flavor it, making it awesome. And like it was mentioned, beans are good for protein too!

Yes to the moral of the article. Juicing should be an addition to your diet (if you WANT to juice), but not your sole source of nutrition. You don't get all of the nutrition from the vegetables that way, though you do get some. Not enough to live on, not by a long shot.

Awesome! Great job :)

I wouldn't completely cut out bread. What I recommend is not snacking on it, but having it at meals with burgers (whether meat or not). But if you have a second, not eating the bread maybe? Also, definitely make sure it's whole grain. Sprouted grain bread is really good for you and it's whole grain (though it tends to be…

I go to Hannaford, Trader Joe's (when I'm near one), and at the health food store I work at (I get a discount, but the stuff is still expensive).

Green tea lemonade (unsweetened) is my drink there. I can't really do coffeeish drinks, not really my thing.

What an *kitten*. I don't think anyone should comment on weight, but people don't really understand what's impolite about it, especially when they're being mean-spirited. I'm generally too shy and awkward to respond to things like that. One time when I was a teenager, I was working at a deli/grill place, and there was this…

I am, for the most part, a vegan. Feel free to add me, and I'll offer support and I will totally chat with anyone about food and stuff.

I've lost about 50lbs since last spring, and whole grains are my friend. I try not to eat too much refined sugar anymore though. My mom cut out carbs for her diet and went into ketosis and ended up gaining some weight back (even though it supposedly slowly cut carbs back in in different phases). So yeah, I wouldn't advise…
-
Yeah, I do. Sometimes just to remember what I had, in case I want it again!
-
I'm really into awkward people, I don't know why for sure. Maybe because I'm awkward myself.

Daiya IS good (doesn't quite taste like cheese, but it has a cheesy texture and works with most stuff. It also melts well), but I agree with the others. It's better not to get the processed stuff anyway, and probably a lot easier on the wallet to cut out dairy and meat substitutes over time anyway.

Fruit is fine, just don't eat a TON of apples (or whatever else) in a day. People tend to freak out over fruit sugar, but fruit also has a lot of nutrients in it that your body needs. And fruit sugar >>>>> refined sugar. All sugar is not the same.

I am as much as I can be. I work at a health food store and have the opportunity to eat a lot of organic food (and buy it at a discount), which is pretty cool. Plus my partner's family is really into organic food and I'm over there most nights.
-
I read a lot of people's food diaries. I'm a curious person by nature :P
-
Agreed. It's going to take awhile to get over it!

Oh good, because I was going to say giving up all carbs isn't a good idea at all. It's also a good idea to keep whole grains. Give up the refined carbs! They're in so much everyday food as it is.

Congratulations!
