Slower exhale through the first two thirds of the flip turn, and during the glide, hold what's left. It works for me. Not unless I'm racing. During most of my workout sets, my kick and streamline are usually enough to get me 2-3 yards past the flags after I flip. That's good enough for me.

When I can't grill outside, I use this one indoors: http://goo.gl/tkV8e3. The big advantage over the Foreman Grill is that all the pieces come apart very easily, and you can submerge the plate. I've cooked steak, burgers, Philly cheese steaks, chicken, vegetables, pineapple, and just about everything else you could want to…

My basketball shorts started falling off as I was playing this week. The string to tie them wouldn't let out enough to tie them tightly enough for them to stay on. Pants that I couldn't fit into when I started because they were too tight now refuse to stay on without a belt. And probably my greatest NSV of all, my man…

Not rude of you at all. My sister-in-law is from Mexico, and she feels more comfortable speaking Spanish with my brother who is her husband, her kids, my parents, and my other brother, all of whom speak Spanish fluently. My remaining brother and I don't speak fluently, but even when we're all together, the conversation…

I really hate getting colds. It means I can't swim for about a week, and when I do: 1) all the left over mucus in my respiratory system comes streaming out my nose until I've got a snot trail going down my chin, 2) it takes a few days back in the pool until I feel like I've got my lungs back, 3) it means I gain a pound or…

Fact: Dogs are not just as fun as kids. You can train a dog as much as you'd like, but a dog will never tell guests, "Guess what. My dad has a HUGE pee-pee." Your three year old son will.

I just had a look at the thread. While I'm a soft poolie through and through, I had to laugh at a few of those. I'm way too scared of swimming without a very close lifeguard to do the open water thing exclusively, and right now, I live in the middle of the U.S. But as an occasional surfer/visitor to the beach, I can relate…

Here are some arguments being made in this thread that drive me nuts: Argument: "The world is overpopulated. Don't have kids because by so doing, you're helping solve that problem." Reality: The overpopulation concern has been voiced since the population of the world was at an estimated 190 million people, or roughly 2/3…

I lived among the Navajo people for some time previously. They gave me a Navajo name. In giving a Navajo name, the chosen name often reflects physical or personal traits of the individual receiving the name. My Navajo name translates to "Man Who is Always Happy." You can be happy and hate the annoyances that abound when…

1800 Free - 24:00 I'm adding a dropped time for my regular 2 mile swim. When I started in May, I swam 2 miles in 75 minutes. Today I swam 2 miles, including my 24 min mile, in 57:15. Caveat: my 2 mile swim is not straight through. The first mile is straight, and the second mile is broken down in sets.

Always, always, always flip. It's just like any other technicality in a sport: the more you do it, the better you get. You'll find that as soon as you get good at flipping, it will become automatic. As for your lack of flotation, I have two things to say: 1) yay for not having the body fat to get you to the top, and 2)…

My last straw was on a camping trip with my boys. I had just finished my second year of law school, and after my last final, I packed up the car and loaded the kids. I got sore setting up the tent. I knew I needed to lose weight, and that I was in the overweight/obese BMI range, but getting sore after setting up a tent…

Yeah, they're really nice. They have one at my local pool, and I use it. My suit is mostly dry before I even get in my car to leave. The student rec center at the university I attended for my undergraduate degree also had one. I never used it because I had no idea how often (read not often) they cleaned it, and I was…

First 1800 today was five seconds slower than my best. I did another half mile, and then swam 500 free in 5:40, a new best. To recap: 1800 Free - 24:25 500 Free - 5:40 50 Free - 00:26

I hate when kids monopolize the suit mate in the locker room by running their suit 5 times. Look kid, all it takes is once. I hate it even more when adults monopolize the suit mate by running their suit 5 times.

^ This is the answer. I swim 2 miles a day 6 days a week. If you think the hard water is bad, try all that chlorine. I use leave in conditioner and my hair feels normal for the rest of the day. If I forget, my hair feels like straw.

I hate feeling slow on an early morning swim after a particularly heavy dinner the night before.

I haven't dropped any times, but today I sprinted 4X50 with a minute rest between each. Here are my splits: 00:27, 00:30, 00:31, 00:33. Those were off the wall. If I could have had a start from the blocks, I might have had all four in under 00:30.

You don't, but since OP cannot get any kind of sustained swimming going on due to all the turning in such a small pool, the paddles and kickboard will compensate.
-
I would recommend getting some hand paddles and swimming the perimeter. You could also get a kickboard and do the same.

In because I'll need this in about two months.

I accept everybody and then wait for them to delete me later when I don't comment on their statuses. Sometimes I'll want a specific friend who has show that he/she knows what they're doing when it comes to specific exercises, diet, etc. I find that it's a better way to get information and advice than going to the forums…
