  • Lift big; eat big! If you're eating at a deficit, you won't have any calories to put towards growing those muscles.
  • Heavy barbell hip thrusts! I'm talking your bodyweight or more on the bar, if possible. You'll think you look very silly, and people will stare at you, but they work! Unlike the squat, it's impossible to use your quads, and I got great results. I also found that heavy deadlifts did a lot for my glutes.
  • I keep a 45 lb kettlebell by in my office, and I try to get up and do something every hour or so. Sometimes it's 20 swings, or 10 goblet squats, or 10 push presses. The bell takes up almost no room. Before I bought the bell, I would do incline push-ups on my desk (I aimed for 15 an hour), body weight calf raises (in sets…
  • I like to use a rowing machine on leg and back days, and I use the elliptical on arm and chest days. They're both low-impact which is nice for me and my bum ankle.

Calipers will be more accurate than a website. If you really want accuracy you'll have to pay for it via water displacement. If you…

This way I can see how my calories are being used before I actually ingest them, which helps me ensure that I'm not starving at 9 p.m. desperately wishing I had been able to eat a decent dinner. Put it in your diary the night before, and…
  • I can tell you that I very much enjoy CrossFit workouts without going to a CF gym. I just can't justify spending that much money. It's very easy to find the workouts online, and there's nothing in there that you can't do with equipment found at a regular gym (except maybe for kettle bells, which mine doesn't have), and…
  • There are no exercises that target fat on specific parts of your body. Strength training targets the particular muscles and helps strengthen them, but if you just want to lose straight up fat you need to watch your diet and continue doing cardio to help with overall calorie burn. That's not to say that you shouldn't do ab…
