  • Wow... people shouldn't be afraid to try to cancel their gym membership! You are the customer and the customer is always right. There is something wrong when companies do the hard sell and then penalize the customer for not being happy. It makes me crazy. :noway:
  • The Calorie Myth by Jonathan Bailor. I want to read this one for sure. Jonathan is all about eating real foods. Abel James does not have a book but he's got an awesome podcast: The Fat Burning Man show. He's all about real food too - I think he's working on a book to be titled The Wild Diet.
  • Spotify is good and I use that sometimes because you can set up playlists on the desktop version (or if you subscribe you can set up playlists on the mobile version).
  • I listen to a lot of podcasts on nutrition and fitness and I've been listening to that when I run. Other than that, I listen to Pandora... I've spent many years fine-tuning my Pandora stations and just choose one and go.
  • I've been using RunKeeper for over a year, and while it's not 100% accurate on the distances, it's close. I've worn on on 5Ks and it's not too far off on distances... yesterday I used it when running on a track and it was pretty close in measuring the 1/4 mile around the track.
  • I've recently started making pork Marsala, not exactly Paleo due to the Marsala wine and a little bit of heavy cream that I add, but I suppose it's primal. My go-to pork recipe is smothered pork chops with lots of onions - this has dairy in it as well but you can probably make it without the cream/dairy.
  • Ummmm... I'm still working on unassisted pull ups!
  • Great example Janna! You have changed his life as well as yours. Truly inspirational!
  • One hundred years ago people had no concept of calories, much less counting them! We survived millions of years without counting calories. Agree with the rest of the group: stop counting calories! Focus on your food as source of nutrition and fuel for your body - eat whole foods, avoid processed, prepackaged foods.
  • Agreed.... I can only take in tiny doses before I can't stand it. It's just such a hostile environment.

  • I made an awesome crispy chicken thigh dinner last night and it took less than 1/2 hour. Coat chicken thighs (with skin and bone) with Jamaican jerk spice and let it sit overnight or all day in the fridge. When ready to cook, slash the meat around the bone so that it can cook faster. Pre-heat a skillet (cast iron if you…
  • Agreed - and I'm guilty of being an avid artificial sweetener consumer for 25+ years. I recently stopped using artificial sweeteners - right when I did Whole 30 in January. Also, for my husband and daughter who eat standard food, I've stopped buying anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup - that stuff is of the devil! I…
  • Ah! I must try TJ's - love their stuff.
  • Great job! but what 5K gave you medals? I run a bunch of 5Ks and never get a medal! T-shirts, yes, ribbons, sometimes, but medals? never! I think I have medal envy. Congratulations! :flowerforyou:
  • I have a Fitbit and it catches the jumps as steps. I found this out by accident when we were jumping rope at the gym and then I saw that my Fitbit steps number had counted everything as a step. Maybe a pedometer would work the same.
  • Me! {raises hand} I honestly think I'm in better shape now, and more informed about fueling the body and disease than I was in my 20s and 30s. Feel free to friend me - I'm always sharing random thoughts to your news feed. :flowerforyou:
  • I listen to the Vinnie Tortorich podcast and he's an ultra-cyclist. I hear lots of talk about fueling with fats like cream cheese and almond butter. Since Vinnie does not eat sugar, he uses sugar as an energy drip - basically when he hits "the wall" he'll pop a piece of hard candy in his mouth and let it dissolve... that's…
  • If you could find a service that offers water tank body fat measuring this is the most accurate. Basically you get submerged in a tank of water and they measure your body fat that way. My old box had a deal with a service like this and every few months they'd come around and measure people for around $50 per visit.
  • I saw this come thru on my TMZ feed and just had to share... thoughts? http://www.tmz.com/2014/05/19/crossfit-transgender-chloie-jonnson/
  • You may be gaining muscle mass and your body composition is changing. Have you had your body fat tested? I bet you have lost fat and gained muscle. Have you discussed this with your Crossfit coaches? Also, there is a MFP group dedicated to Crossfit called Crossfit Love... It's a large group of Crossfitters - check it out.
  • I mean Planet Fitness is just following the business model of every other major gym: get people to sign up, get their credit card so that they can get billed, and not show up to the gym. People forget about paying every month and PF has money coming and people can say they belong to a gym - albeit, they never go to the…
  • You're killing me Varda!
  • agree with the cholesterol - I've been learning a lot about this lately and the rampant use of statins in the U.S. Thanks to big pharma marketing BS.
  • Awesome triglyceride number! I was just looking at my numbers over the last four years but my Triglyceride number is not that low! All: what is a good glucose number?
  • Yes! Sadly it has taken 50+ years of people's health going to crap due to the recommended high-carb, low-fat diet recommendations.
  • I get it now... I thought it was doing squats for 30 minutes, but it's being in the position for 30 minutes. Cool!
  • Great topic! sleep is so important! Right now I get around 7 1/2 - 8 hours... I really want to get as much sleep as possible. I call it recovery. My gym/box recommends 8 1/2 hours and in our January challenge that was the goal. I couldn't get that but once a week but I can get 8 if I really apply myself.
  • I like listening to Abel too! he's easy on the eyes... I also listen to Everyday Paleo with Jason and Sarah. I've listened to Robb Wolf but it's a bit advanced and technical... I get lost when they discuss anatomy and hormone or body chemical levels. Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint podcast is a quick listen and it's…
  • Stick with the olive oil! All oils will have a high calorie count but olive oil is far better than the over-processed refined grains oils (i.e. corn, "vegetable," canola, etc.)
  • Thanks for the links... I just purchased a bag of Chia seeds and was trying to figure out how to use them!
