I could make a case for eating at anywhere from 1430 (TDEE at light - 20%) to 1560 (TDEE at sedentary), depending on how aggressive you want to be.

If your BMR is 1300, then these are your TDEEs based on various activity levels (using Scooby's calculator here): Sedentary: 1560 Light exercise: 1787 moderate exercise: 2015 When you exercise 3-4 times a week, does it qualify as "moderate" or "light"? I might be tempted to eat at 1560, then I'm getting a solid deficit…

Throughout the process, I have done cardio ~6 days/week (elliptical hard for 30 minutes, burning 500+ calories) and 3 days/week of strength training (currently doing a Stronglifts 5x5 program). There have been a few points when my back has caused me to duck out on the strength training, but I've basically kept to that…

I won't stick to a strict calorie count this Sunday. I'll definitely work out and may try to get in an extra long walk, too.

That's great progress! Congrats! I also have many progress pics in my profile - feel free to check 'em out.

When my ex ran one of these, they set it up as competitive within the office and then as a competition against other offices (they had six other offices on the west coast). The inter-office competition was nice because it gave people an incentive to support their co-workers. Prizes are always nice, but most people will do…

Sounds like a plan!

Not that you asked, but I would personally recommend subbing in strength training in for some of your cardio. Walking to/from work as often as you do is great - use your gym time to build lean body mass through lifting heavy.

Scooby's calculator gives you a TDEE of 2321 at moderate activity level, which is pretty close to the middle of the range you specified in your post. If you calculate based on -20%, that yields a goal intake of 1856 calories. If you calculate based on 1 lb / week (which is probably about right for being this close to…

Wow, great work!

SW: 269 GW: 250 (was 253) January 1: 269 January 6: 267 January 13: 264 January 20: 264 January 27: 261 January weight loss: 8 lbs. I had a loss of 3 lbs this week coming off a week of no change. Four weeks into the challenge I'm averaging -2/week. I've decided to make my goal a little more challenging, lowering the goal…

SW: 269 GW: 253 January 1: 269 January 6: 267 January 13: 264 January 20: 264 January 27: January weight loss: 5 lbs. Considering the fact that I ended the X-Mas challenge at 279 lbs, I was due for my weight to stay even (or go up) and that's what happened. Hopefully back to my losing ways next week.

SW: 269 GW: 253 January 1: 269 January 6: 267 January 13: 264 January 20: January 27: I ended up having a good week on the scale as well as my eating and exercising. I was on the elliptical every day and did strength training twice (goal is three times). At this point, I have to average just over 1lb/week to make my goal.…

Most studies seem to show that patients starting on metformin lose weight. Those same studies show that patients who receive the placebo also lose weight. This phenomenon is likely due to the patients being in a clinical trial knowing they will have frequent physician visits where their weight will be recorded. This is…

According to the scale, my weight is down one lb since Monday, so I haven't been too bad. I've been taking my dog on extra long walks this week and also been doing my cardio at the gym. I did miss my strength training today and I feel a little guilty - I'll get back to it on Friday.
-
Here's what I decided to do: since I obviously did not lose all that weight in the past week, I just adjusted my starting weight so that my one-week weight loss is 2 lbs - which is more reasonable. My new chart looks like this: SW: 370 CW: 269 GW: 263 January 1: 269 January 6: 267 January 13: January 20: January 27: No…

OK, this is a bit crazy. I was at an inexplicable plateau for the month of December . . . this week I had an equally inexplicable free-fall. The good news is that I smashed through my goal weight for the X-Mas Challenge. :) SW: 370 CW: 274 GW: 263 January 1: 274 January 6: 267 January 13: January 20: January 27: I have now…

I've done 30 minutes on the elliptical every day this week and I'll be back to strength training as well next week. I'm also doing OK on nutrition so far. I have a feeling that my initial weigh-in was artificially high - I over-indulged on NYE - so I will probably have a solid loss to report and may recalibrate my goal for…

That is so funny.

The X-Mas challenge that Mulecanter helped moderate went for 21 weeks. The average person who completed it lost 24 lbs., or just over 1 lb. per week. The average percent body loss was 10.6% and among those who finished, 28.6% met their weight loss goal and the average percent of goal loss attained was just over 82%.

I have this same scale and it's been great.

So Mehdi does recommend straps for the deadlift when "your legs and back have the strength to Deadlift the weight, but your grip is the limiting factor." He just says to not use it on every set. I think I'll basically try overhand grip until I fail, switch to a mixed grip, and then finally wraps when I fail at the mixed…

When someone says that "water retention masks weight loss," they are talking about the short term. The very short term. Let's say that you have a high sodium intake on given day that causes you to retain 3 lbs of water more than you would if you had a lower sodium intake. If you continue to eat a high sodium diet, that…

The short answer is yes, you should eat back those exercise calories using the "MFP system." The longer answer is that you probably are eating too little for sustainable weight loss. At age 19 and 76kg, your BMR is roughly 1900 calories/day (this is roughly the number of calories your body would burn if you stayed in bed…

This isn't about your weight. This is about his desire to exert control over you. If he were dating a supermodel, he would abuse her about something else. Here's the part that's going to suck: why are you still with him? Does this relationship somehow parallel your relationship with your father? No doubt you should leave…

I don't really understand this statement. The definition of a slower metabolism is that your body doesn't burn as many calories as it did previously.

Elavil for sleeplessness? There are a whole bunch of drugs out there that are used more often for that indication than Elavil and have much better side effect profiles. I hope your doctor had a REALLY good reason to prescribe that particular drug.
