  • Go half way in between Have a cheat day and treat yourself to some extent, but don't use it as an excuse to eat everything in sight just because you've paid for it. Then workout like hell the next day.
  • If you have chicken fat in your pee, you may need to see a doctor... EDIT: Looks like about 50 people already said this before me....
  • Nothing yet over here in Derbyshire. Fingers crossed it stays that way as I have to get home to Mansfield after work.
  • Great, thanks guys. Guess I would've had a pretty nasty Sea Bass if I'd tried to eat it without gutting or scaling it. What's the best cooking method? Is it as simple as wrap it in foil and put it in the oven? Or should I grill it?
  • Or to summarise; can a trained fishmonger give me a few years with of training in a couple of paragraphs please? ;)
  • Maybe try ditching the inter-office phone and instead go to peoples offices to talk to them. That would give you a little extra walking, but yea, still scraping the barrel somewhat. I like the idea some people have said of doing a little mini squat on the chair as you sit down.
  • Is there absolutely no other time you can squeeze in even a little exercise? You've gotta really scrape the bottom of the barrel to get some exercises you can do at a desk. You could walk/cycle to work? Or if its too far for that to be practical, park further away and walk in, or get off the bus a couple of stops earlier.
  • When I'm at work I do secret pushups in the toilet so nobody will laugh at me :) Ok so not technically at my desk but you can still do it when you're in the office. Start with knee-pushups if you can't do any full-body ones.
  • Nice easy message to reply to: Go see your doctor!
  • Just for the record, it's nothing at all to do with gravity. Gravity can't make you heavier unless gravity itself increases, which would only happen if you were somehow considerably closer to the centre of the Earth (or further from the sun, or the moon). But other than the pedantic science talk, I'm on board with the idea…
  • It works well to log your weight lifting as both strength training and cardio. Don't stop logging the sets and reps just because its more helpful to log the calories under cardio. It's a few extra clicks but it's good to have a log of what weight you're lifitng, when, for how long etc.
  • Go back to the first post. This thread isn't about a beer here or there, it's about people who drink it a lot because they love it. And so was my reply.
  • I'm kind of a metalhead, also quite into punky stuff, and the heavier end of modern indie music. Recently I have been working out to the sounds of some old school Offspring, from Ixnay On The Hombre album. The speed of it really gets me going.
  • Well as you mentioned that you own plenty of weights, it sounds like you're at least at intermediate fitness or higher, in which case I say again that you should try doing planks. It's a fantastic exercise for building up core strength. http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abexercises_10.htm If you can do it for more than a…
  • Interesting - I never knew there were workout DVDs for free weights. In fact I didn't even know that there were any aimed at men. I will definitely take a look at this when I get in this evening. Thanks!
  • Thanks guys this is good advice. Think my girlfriend wouldn't be best pleased if I brought the exercise bike into the living room! I have got a small TV in the spare room but no aerial though, so I think I'll try putting a DVD on instead, that might help. Setting a sold time to work out every day is an interesting idea. I…
  • Oh and also, keep us updated and if you make it to 10k I'd be happy to donate. Cancer is close to me too, I lost my mum a couple of years ago. I don't check in the forums that often so feel free to send me a message to nag me for some dosh closer to the time.
  • Good luck bud. I tried training for a half marathon 2 years ago, starting from a similar position to you (on a good day I could run a mile but it would absolutely kill me). I got to the 6 mile mark after 3 months of training (half marathon is just over 13 miles) and without beign able to see an end in sight, I gave in and…
  • Push ups, pull ups, planks and crunches. Planks are especially great but are a little hardcore. Crunches are great otherwise.
  • I think looking for light beers is overthinking it. Probably not something that many will agree with but in my book the best way to avoid the calories from drinking beer is to drink less beer. Sure you can work out extra before or after drinking, and this will make up for the extra calorie intake, but the thing is, you…
  • Just had a look at that - seems really good. Think my girlfriend will love this instead of going to Morrisons for a sandwich at lunch every day, so I'll pass the link on to her. Thanks.
  • BTW sorry that my post was a completely flakey answer that probably didn't help at all. There's not always a yes or no answer with these things...
  • There is much debate over whether you should up your calorie intake to replace what you burn off during exercise. Some say do it, some say don't. The MFP stance is made clear by the tools on the site that give you extra food allowance to offset your exercise. In contract, personally I try not to see exercise as an excuse…
  • I started the 100 push-ups program a few weeks ago, and failed miserably! I plan on trying again but not until I give myself a head start by losing quite a few lbs. It's definitely harder than doing a much higher number of sit ups.
  • So if you're morbidly obese, you should still keep eating all day because you're hungry all day? Don't mean to start an argument on a site I've just started using but I think that's pretty bad advice tbh...
  • There could be dietary things you can do, for example don't eat so much later in the day, this will reduce the energy you have into the late evening. Also more obvious things such as less caffeine will help you sleep earlier. But overall I think you just need to use a little will power and force yourself to go to bed and…
  • I'm from Mansfield, not too far away. Though I work in Ripley just down the road which is where I am at the moment. Hello!
  • Skipping lunch and eating a bigger dinner is big no! Keeping yourself to smaller, more regular meals may seem like a pain at time but it helps keep your metabolism going fast. If you're not hungry just eat a tad less. Also if you skip lunch then you may be so hungry by dinner time that you could be tempted to gorge. That's…
