Beware the scale......

I have seen a few people that are getting on the scale several times a day. Not a good idea. I'm no expert, but here is how I see it and what I apply in my Journey- Our weight fluctuates throughout the day. We tend to be lighter in the morning, I think because we have been fasting, and laying flat so gravity hasn't been pulling down on us all day long. The scale is our friend- as long as we don't overuse it. I think about the people who depend on the stock market, when the numbers are up- they are very happy. When the numbers go down, they fall into a deep depression and are no fun to be around. The stock market is controlling them.
YOUR SCALE WILL CONTROL YOU IF YOU LET IT!!!! Remember this- we are trying to lose weight, not trying to lose our minds!!!

Right on! I have to weigh myself daily or I tend to forget to eat properly. I try to do it first thing in morning and I have lost 10 pounds in 8 weeks and am very please with this site.

It's a bad obsession! I don't even own a scale anymore because of it! I used to step on the scale about 10 times a day, by the end of the day I was in a panic! Now it's weight from the doctors office and maybe once a month at the gym. It was a hard lesson to learn, but so was the fact that I can't keep bags of chocolate in the house!0

Just for the record, it's nothing at all to do with gravity. Gravity can't make you heavier unless gravity itself increases, which would only happen if you were somehow considerably closer to the centre of the Earth (or further from the sun, or the moon).
But other than the pedantic science talk, I'm on board with the idea that we shouldn't obsess about the scales. Use the mirror, not the scales!0 -
Some people can weigh every day and it keeps them going. For me - the scale can be my worst enemy. I can't even counthow many times the number on the scale has led me to throw in the towel and binge. Sometimes even if it's a loss - if it's not what I was hoping for - it can be so discouraging. I have not weighed in two weeks and I do not plan to weigh until April 1st. I'm trying in the mean time to focus on NSV's - pants looser, more energy, firmer muscles, etc. The scale can absolutely drive me bonkers! But that's me - and we all have to figure out what works for ourselves individually.0

I'm need to remove my ticker from my siggy because it isn't accurate....I have no idea how much I am losing/gaining because I am not obsessed with the scale. I do not have plans to check it again before Easter.
at this point in my life, if I eat as many healthy meals as I should as well as stick to my exercise plan, that's an accomplishment for me...losing weight is an added bonus.
I'm looking to be consistent, not obsessed.0 -
I'm a confessed scale addict. I finally had to take the batteries out because it was controlling how I felt about myself.0

I am definitely obsessed with my scale. I would weigh myself every single day and sometimes more than once a day. Now my fiance hides the scale after I weigh in on Friday mornings and doesn't return it until Thursday night so i can weigh in again on Friday. So far it seems to be working..if the scale isn't there I can't weigh myself! It helps me focus more on how my clothes are fitting rather than the lbs0

I also hate it when gravity stops pulling on me.
Stop playing with me gravity!0 -

I have to go to the hospital to weigh myself. I would be too OCD about it if I had a scale at home. Don't let the number rule your life during your metamorphosis. Though we all want to lose weight, it IS just another number at the end of the day. Focus on what is most important- good health and well-being.0

I gave up the scales as it was becoming obsessive and my whole mood measure of success was led by what the scales said. I have instead turned to inch loss as a measure and I feel far more sane:explode: :noway:
I haven't weighed for about 5 weeks now and I feel much better for it. I will weigh in the next week to see if I have been able to maintain my weight without the need to constantly weigh myself.
Great post:bigsmile:0 -

Well said! More than once a day, really? Every day is a bit OCD but wow, I really hadn't paid attention to those weighing more than once a day. The point is, this journey is long enough as is, and we'll have good days and bad days as is, so why torture yourself anymore than you have to by looking at the Ebbs and flows of a day? Too many chances to get depressed by watching the scale!0

i totrally agree with this i have sen multiple times where people weigh in more then once a day and track there. 1 or .2 pounds lost and it makes me sad to think that maybe later they will be sad and dissapointed with a .4 pound gain because weighing in so much is just hindering them they may have water weight or whatever that hasnt shifted when they pop on the scale that they dont take into account0
