  • Such a weird, sad thread. OP (and others really), if you're healthy and happy, stay where you are. If you want to change, change. Don't look to the Internet to tell you how to feel about your body. Maybe if you want opinions, I guess you could ask, but unless you truly respect the opinions of random strangers, seems like a…
  • I loved my BodyMedia. I too, think it's the most accurate tracker for many activities. I don't love the arm-band. I've had a fitbit and now a Garmin vivofit (given to me by work). I find both to be pretty useless for anything other than running and steps. If the Garmin wasn't free I'd hate it. At least the BodyMedia is…
  • Ha! Well, I feel like the Fiber One bar would be a treat, and would avoid it. If you feel that strongly about the doughnut, eat it. I love to eat, I love to drink, but I also love being slim, so in order to accomplish all of those goals I need a strategy. For me, that's a fair amount of exercise and watching what I eat 85%…
  • Swap one of the apples and oranges for a protein. 200 calories of chicken is way more satiating than 200 calories of fruit. Add more carrots, they add chew satisfaction without many calories. And I'd ditch the bars too. They tend to be very sugary. Not that there's anything wrong with sugar necessarily, but for many…
  • I like a medium to light roast bean and then also brew my coffee a little weaker. I take it with cream and sugar substitute. Lately I've been on a flavor kick, but getting over it. I'd never noticed a big difference between whole bean and ground. I recently returned from Jamaica with some Jablum Blue Mountain beans, and…
  • Is that cease or seize? Ha! Just kidding. Although I do think the use of "cease" in the T-shirt might confuse some folks. OP, you are fighting a lost cause. There are some things you simply must learn to ignore... **Double checks grammar. Chooses "must learn" instead of "have to learn". Still writes in fragments.**
  • I also love my BodyMedia, but hate wearing it. My work recently gave us a Vivofit and I bought a heart rate monitor to compliment it. I find the Vivofit pretty worthless. I used the BodyMedia for many months to get a good baseline of what I burn and have always based my calories on those numbers, so I'm pretty confident…
  • My BMR was tested by a nutritionist using one of those face masks. Technically, I believe it's RMR, but it's taken first thing in the morning after fasting and no exercise. I'm 5'5", 130 lbs, and it came out to 1300.
  • I'm into calorie cycling, and have been for a long time. So I plan high days and low days. It can be easy to let the high days override the low, but as long as you're aware and adjust accordingly, it shouldn't be a big deal.
  • Most people don't get it. They don't know the history of pole either, not that I think it would matter much. I consider pole just another circus art. Almost all of the acrobatic moves are pretty much the same as something you'd do on a lyra, trapeze, or silks. But it's hard to get people to cross-over from other circus…
  • Like others have said, I eat less during the week knowing I'm going to go over on the weekends. But I do have some guilt, especially when I have days like this past Friday where I clocked in at a good 3900 calories. I'll probably eat a little less for the next couple days to counter it. And guilt aside, I've been doing…
  • I bank all the time. In fact, that's pretty much how I've always done it. I eat at a slight deficit M-Th knowing I'll go over on the weekend. The amount I eat during the week varies based on my goals.
  • I just got a Vivofit and have ordered a Mio Link to go with it. MFP and Vivofit link pretty well, but you do have to sync the MFP to get food to update to Garmin. Because I found this thread via the "search" function, I'll try to update once I have my Link.
  • I have a "fear" of being hungry, too. It can affect my health/mood, etc., but I have to go without for a while before I start getting too shaky. Even though I'm not trying to lose weight and am already pretty lean, it is one of those things I've wanted to correct. Just because it sucks to be so driven by blood sugar.
  • Caffeine is definitely addictive, at least for me. I think there is a slight increase in heart rate if you consume too much. I'm sure you can google any other potential issues. Like anything, it's fine when consumed in moderation. That being said, I drink way too much.
  • Bulk/cut cycles are generally the recommended method for gaining muscle. I don't think they're for everyone, though. Nor do I think they are totally necessary--depending on your goals of course. Bret Contreras' (the "glute guy") opinion on the matter: bretcontreras.com/to-bulk-and-cut-or-not/
  • Agreed. Models are selling product, not lifestyle or even health. Unless, of course, they're a fitness model. Even then, physical appearance isn't always a good indicator of health. I have no idea how healthy she is, just like I have no idea how healthy the average 5'10" size 0 model is. I think she's beautiful, but it…
  • Have you had your metabolism tested? I've had mine done a couple times by a nutritionist at one of our local grocery stores. It's the machine you breath into. Go in early in the a.m. and fasted, no coffee, nothing. The reason I mention it is because my RMR alone is in the 1300 range. That's me being completely idle, like…
  • Of course! Just log the milk. I drink coffee with half & half.
  • I don't know that I would bulk. I attempted a small one this winter and have mixed feelings about it. And then yesterday I read this article: bretcontreras.com/to-bulk-and-cut-or-not/ and feel even less convinced of my need to bulk. I too have had really good results with recomp (maintaining the same weight while…
  • Another vote for this^. I don't do cardio. I do like to mountain bike but that's a summer activity (though I get to today. ). I focus on strength base training and my body looks way better than it ever did than when I did cardio all the time. I'm also smaller than I've ever been as an adult.
  • ETA: I'm 38, but I'll be 39 in less than a month. :D
  • I can do several. I'm 5'5" and currently 133 lbs (at the end of my bulk). I think negatives are the most effective for pull-up training. I never trained pull-ups, but I do aerial circus arts, and in silks you are doing holds constantly. There's also a lot of pulling needed (like the vertical pulls or half pulls…
  • I weigh my items frozen when they're frozen and log them the same as the thawed items. I think the little bit of water that melts off is insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
  • In many ways I think it's a moot point. Because we can't necessarily pinpoint our exact calorie expenditure to a specific number, the T.E.F. becomes pretty negligible. It's a law of estimates and averages anyway, so worrying about whether or not your cooked carrots yield more usable calories than raw carrots probably means…
  • I am shocked you aren't dropping more on 1600/day. That has to be net, right?
  • Once or twice. Maybe three times at most.
  • There's really no reason not to have it if you fit the calories in. I found my evening wine/cocktail was more habit than anything. I do sleep better without it though, so I've been working to change the habit. I'd also like to add that age is a common excuse for slower metabolisms but it really is just an excuse. You can…
  • I'm a drinker. It can affect my progress when I'm cutting mostly because, like last night, I tend to like to eat all the things after I've drank all the drinks. However, I'm able to stay lean while still drinking on a regular basis. I do work it into my calories. Generally by eating at a deficit on the weekdays so I can go…
