Article: Metabolic and training differences between men and women
Saw this on the Bodybuilding.com website and found it really interesting. strengtheory.com/2015/01/11/gender-differences-in-training-and-diet/ I'm a firm (haha) believer in weightlifting being the most beneficial exercise for changing one's body, especially for those with a healthy weight. I also hear a lot of women…

C.D. Hussey's bulking log
Okay, I have officially started my mini bulk. It was actually November 1st. I went to NOLA for Halloween, but essentially came home the same weight. I was cutting (though not very well) prior to my trip at 1600/day M-Th. My cutting calories are actually higher, but I generally like to bank calories for the weekend.…

Considering a "No Alcohol November" challege
After a fun weekend of, well, fun, and an upcoming Halloween weekend trip to New Orleans, I am considering a "No Alcohol November" challenge to give my body and liver a break. I'm definitely a social drinker, so it isn't like it's a challenge to avoid the booze during the week. Although I do like a glass of wine or a…

Tested RMR vs. Calculated
Couldn't figure out where to stick this so I thought this forum was as good as any. This is really just a general poll. For those of you who have had your RMR tested, how does it compare to calculated? For example, my numbers: Tested RMR=1300 Mifflin=1271 Katch-McArdle=1440 Harris-Benedict=1340 Nelson RMR (from…

Had my RMR tested a second time and now confused
So I had my RMR tested yesterday morning for the second time and it came out to be 1300. This was first thing in the morning before food, coffee, 12 hours after exercise, etc. And now I'm confused but I'm not sure if I should be. When I had it tested 1.5 years ago or so, I did the same machine only at lunch time. So I…

1 Year MFP and 7 Months Lifting Heavy
So, I don't know if I'm a success story, per se, but this is my one year MFP progress post. Disclaimer: Sorry for the "standing on the toilet" photos. I've actually been taking them in the same location for years for my own records because it's easy. Never thought I'd be sharing them with, well, anyone. :blushing: I have…

Recomp/inadvertant small bulk
So, I joined this group thinking I might want to try to bulk, but got scared and decided to just lurk. Deep down I wanted to cut a little more before bulking and ended up with a small gain of about 3 lbs (facepalm). A little bit of history, I came to MFP in May 2013 wanting to lose about 5 lbs. Ended up dropping 10, but by…

Oh no! I think I injured myself
So I've known I've been due for a rest day, and was planning on taking one tomorrow. I pushed a little hard today. Legs at the gym, belly dance practice, then open gym. Everything was fine until I went for my final stretch. Right splits fine, left splits no way. Not even close. My left side is usually worse, but this was…

Fitbit, Bodymedia, TDEE & BMR
How many of you adjust your Fitbit height/stride length in order to get the correct BMR? I bought one recently and it's so different from my bodymedia and all the calculators, and I get the feeling it is wrong, but it's messing with me mentally and making me want to eat less. Possibly because I have gained a few pounds in…

Had pizza for lunch. Ugh
Just want to complain/share. I'm not super strict about this diet, but I do avoid wheat 98% of the time. Today we had a sales rep come in for a lunch presentation and brought pizza. I knew it would probably upset my digestion a little (and it did. Nothing horrible, but definitely upset), but I forgot how tired and blah…

From Yahoo...
I was going to post this on the main forums, but realized I'd probably offend a lot of people and then decided that was a bad idea and probalby uncalled for. So I'm posting it here, where I'm pretty confident everyone is in the same "lift heavy" camp with me. From a Yahoo article today: "You'll Need: A set of 3-pound…

28-day Handstand Challenge
So, we have squat, push-up, and plank challenges, how about a handstand challenge? I'd really like a solid handstand under my belt. Anyone want to join this not-so-closet circus freak? Here are the details: http://chrissalvato.com/2013/05/28-day-handstand-challenge/

Over worked hip flexors
I'm an aerialist by hobby and while that's great for certain parts of my body (pull-ups anyone?), I've found it's hard on my hip flexors. Holding one's legs out straight really works those bad boys. I also have a desk job which I know is tough on them too. I do stretch them quite a bit but it's not enough and quite…

Bulk, cut, or maintain (and lift, of course)?
<<Profile picture was taken yesterday. I'm thinking about doing a bulk in November/December, but not sure and frankly a little nervous. I'm pretty happy with my size, though I wouldn't mind dropping into a comfortable 4 (currently between a 4 and a 6), seeing a few more abs and a slightly smaller and firmer derrier and…

Not sure what to try next
So I've been holding steady for the last month in the 131lb and 20% body fat range. I'd like to drop my BF% to 18. According to my bodymedia, I burn an average of 2266 calories and consumed 2051. I know at this small amount of weight loss, it's hard to see progress, but since I'm pretty much the same, I'm going to assume…

Have your RMR tested!
I did and I'm so glad I did. RMR is your resting metabolic rate, and basically tells you what you burn sitting around doing nothing. I'm 37, 5.5", 131 lbs, and about 19.6% BF. My RMR came back at 1580 calories or about 1.1 calories/minute. That means the only time I should eat close to 1600 calories per day is if I'm…

Calculating TDEE from weight loss
I've been dropping weight pretty fast, about 2lb/week. Not that I'm complaining, but I'm trying to figure out how that works into calculating my TDEE. My current weight is 131.5lbs. Goal weight is 125lbs (actually it's 20%bf, but if I keep my current lean body mass, that equates to a weight of 125lbs). I've been eating…
