Had pizza for lunch. Ugh

Just want to complain/share.

I'm not super strict about this diet, but I do avoid wheat 98% of the time. Today we had a sales rep come in for a lunch presentation and brought pizza. I knew it would probably upset my digestion a little (and it did. Nothing horrible, but definitely upset), but I forgot how tired and blah wheat makes me feel. I just finished a small workout in our work gym and barely had any energy. And now I'm dragging.

So, while it tasted pretty dang good, it's totally not worth it.

I'm pretty much the same! Last night I had to grab a quick dinner and decided to get fast food. It wasn't that good and it just made me bloated and yuck.

I guess its good to do it occasionally, as a reminder that we're eating this way for a reason.

I did the same thing yesterday. Didn't want what I had brought and someone bought pizza for our department. It was pretty good, but I felt like crap afterward and I feel hungover today. :(

I'm guilty of this too...always reminds me why I don't usually eat like that. Apparently I'm a glutton for punishment because I'm too stupid to learn from my mistakes LOL.

Luckily I'm back on track today. I'm sure I'll do it again, just like I eventually drink too much even after swearing off drinking too much. I usually forget by Friday. :drinker: :blushing:

But it was a nice reminder of why I skip the wheat.

Easy way to enjoy pizza while not eating the wheat: just eat the TOPPINGS. The crust is the flavourless part anyway.

    This is so me!
And I'll eat ice cream every once in a while, then the next day swear I'm never eating it again because of the aftermath but then cave in later to start the process again... :noway:

This normally works for me, but sometimes it's a texture thing (and I've yet to find an alternative crust with the same texture as the crusts from my favorite pizza joints), and I'd argue that not all crusts are flavorless.

But, such is life, and what makes it nice when Paleo is treated as a way of eating ("diet as a noun") instead of "diet" (verb). You can't "fail" at a way of eating. Yeah, you goofed and ate something that you've found has not-so-great consequences for you, but you live and learn, and you move on to make better choices at the next meal time, and maybe next time you're presented with that food, you'll think twice about it, and work a little harder to say, "no, I don't want to deal with the consequences of eating that."

Thank you for this Dragon!! My goal is 90% and I try not to beat myself up over "mistakes". Great philosophy!

That was me yesterday. Hard core work meeting. Lots of ra ra go team talk. Pizza brought in. In the moment, "participating" seemed like the right thing to do. I ate 2 slices. I never eat white bread (normally) and don't eat a lot of wheat in generally.
Super sluggish all afternoon. And, of course, a tummy ache.

I wasn't at all suggesting people should beat themselves up over having pizza. I was providing an alternative to "all or nothing" thinking. And no Paleo lifestyle is 100%. It is very easy to avoid the wheat if one WANTS to. Wheat makes me sick. Wheat makes me binge. Wheat makes me depressed. Wheat makes me obese. So, no amount of wheat is worth consuming for me, but I have other things that are such as organic popcorn. I certainly view the toppings as a special treat, but if what a person loved was always the crust, then I can not see it from that view. I LOVE how it feels to be able to gobble down the toppings and not feel bad in any way.... except the minor discomfort from the dairy. lol

Sorry Akima, I wasn't meaning to say that you were implying that. :flowerforyou:

It was more of a general reminder that this is a way of eating. It's easy to forget if you're finding yourself mired in the "don't bother doing that, you'll just fail" message from people (either directly or residual).

I wasn't offended. Just find it funny the all or nothing thinking about pizza. Not just here; it's a common topic. One CAN have their pizza and eat it too, without getting sick or feeling "guilty". I come from the camp of "never cheat with wheat" (cuz it really hurt my health for a long time) so my opinion probably isn't applicable for everyone since I do have trouble understanding why anyone even wants to eat the crust. Especially when there is MEATZA.

    Haha, meatza's awesome.

For a while, Donato's Pizza had a crustless personal pizza. I don't know if they still do it (since I think they got a deal with Udy's for a GF crust), but it was literally a small pie plate that was "topped" like any other pizza. It was awesome, but I'm still getting used to eating higher fat meals (particularly when animal fat is involved) that don't have much in the way of carbs (and in some cases, protein) to balance it out, so it felt a little heavy and rich to me.

You are right, though, everything we eat is a choice. Doesn't mean we always make good ones, though (especially those of us who are hard-headed and don't get some of the uglier and/or more immediate GI issues to smack us upside the head). It's sometimes easy to forget the upset stomach and sluggishness (or the fact that it often doesn't taste as good as you remember) when faced with something that smells enticing and brings back certain memories. Sometimes, it just takes longer to get it through our heads that, as good as it may smell, we'll probably regret it later, and probably isn't worth it.

Went out to dinner for my wedding anniversary... after a totally paleo meal, I caved and had chocolate souffle. I feel awful... gas and poops :-(

I do this too, not all the time, but once in a while I will eat something I know is going to bother me....I guess just for the worst reminder ever lol.. ....then I don't do it for a long time

Even after all this, after a few cocktails on Friday night I decided three handfuls of the goldfish, whole grain crackers my husband bought for his lunch were a good idea. Yeah, sick all Saturday morning.

Weird to regret the crackers more than the vodka...

Well, lesson reinforced. Even though very small amounts of wheat don't seem to bother me, larger portions certainly do. Which does make me sad because occasionally I will want to eat a croissant or cake or bread.
