  • Careful. Tonic has quite a few calories: 124 calories in 12 ounces, which is pretty much the same as regular soda. If you mean club soda, then yes, it's just carbonated water.
  • I don't necessarily agree with this one. I'm lean (16% BF according to my last BodPod), and a 3000 calorie night/week, sometimes 2x/week has been part of my life for a while. I don't normally fall back on the mantra of, "it's all about balance", but in this case it is. It's definitely easy to wipe out any deficit you…
  • I'm finding this to be true for my bulk. It's hard to wrap my brain around trying to eat more. Last night I had a 180 calorie vanilla porter and I lamented that choice even after I realized I was still well under my goal. I even considered working out again to help offset it. Definitely a sign I need to bulk/take a diet…
  • Thanks! I started with the stronglifts program too. I think it's a great program. I had to modify because I was having problems with my hips, but I really started seeing progress in my body after I started lifting heavy and consistently. I'm pretty much the same weight I was a year ago but lifting has changed my body…
  • Okay, so I tried this with Nonfat Greek Yogurt and Cheesecake flavored pudding mix. So, so good. It tasted exactly like cheesecake and the texture was pretty effing close too.
  • While I agree with the lordosis comment, unfortunately leg raises tend to work the hip flexors more than the ab muscles, which can cause even more problems with lordosis. Same with hanging pikes. As an aerialist, every time I invert I'm doing some sort of leg lift. I'm still working on my lordosis.
  • I think the lasagna cabbage roll sounds pretty awesome! Cooking this as a lasagna inspired casserole, with the cabbage in layers also sounds interesting. But I think eggplant or zucchini would be better suited for that. I love the "food police" comments, btw. There's an obsession with food labels here on MFP that just…
  • I started my first bulk on Nov. 1st. I'm still in the reverse dieting phase. I'm already not sure this will go well for me. I can already feel myself chickening out, lol.
  • Good grief. Do you even count calories? Seriously. One slice of cheesecake can easily have 400 calories. That's an entire meal for me. So I can have the cheesecake but then be hungry because cheesecake isn't all that filling, and probably have a hard time meeting my macros, or I can have some yogurt with pudding, get my…
  • This. However, some of the infused lower alcohol vodkas are actually lower calorie too. Malibu coconut rum is only 51 calories per ounce (compared to 70 or so for "regular" rum), but it's also lower alcohol, 21% (42 proof). Cruzan is another lower calorie, lower alcohol rum. The vodka you're drinking may be the same. If in…
  • Sleep in workout clothes and have everything else ready to go. I'm not by nature a morning workout person. I did it once this summer because I wanted to work out before going on vacation. Loved it so much, I now incorporate morning workouts several times a week.
  • I had this a long time and didn't realize it. Then it became occasional, full-blown heartburn due to certain medication. When I remember and decide it's worth choking down, the apple cider vinegar route really does seem to work. Take a look on Google. It's pretty anecdotal, but people do swear by it and besides tolerating…
  • Bump! Loving the recipes...
  • I stand all day and have for a while. Don't notice too much difference in calorie burn... I've read 20-50 calories more/hour. Not sure if I trust that.
  • Where on earth are your veggies, young man? I'm actually kidding. You don't have to eat veggies if you don't wanna. It just jumped out at me...
  • I think one thing even office people don't always consider is how much getting up and moving around burns. I have an office job, but I'm pretty fidgety. Days that I sit all day burn a good 100-200 calories less than days I walk back and forth to the break room/bathroom frequently and hit Target for lunch. That non-exercise…
  • I love mine. I have a small one at work which I primarily cook frozen chicken thighs on, and a large one at home. IMO, it doesn't work well for meats you want to sear, like steak or lamb, but I love it for chicken, pork, or burgers. I also sometimes put sliced sweet potatoes in it. Sausages are another good item.
  • I think I just discovered the issue people seem to have with food labels. I'd say relax. Yes there are some people that may feel superior in whatever choice they're making. I usually ignore these people. And TBH, this OP didn't strike me as that type. I try to eat simply and avoid grains, etc. However, I definitely don't…
  • I also have to avoid refined carbs. I just pretty much eliminated them 90% of the time about 1.5 years ago. Couldn't be happier, and am now in the best shape of my life. Coincidence...? Maybe, but I'm still not bringing them back.
  • I'll be 39 in a few months. I'm actually in the best shape of my life right now. Want to be amazeballs by 40. I work full time, but my son is 18 so I definitely can't be lumped into "working mom", lol. It's not like he needs much from me any more besides moral support and college tuition.
  • I'm with you OP. Cutting grain and things that come in a box was the best thing I ever did for my physique. I've been doing it for more than a year and a half. I also get the "real" food notion. For me, it means I try to use fresh ingredients and put things together myself. Like, spaghetti sauce (which I like to eat on…
  • I've read a few articles that talk about losing fat while gaining muscle. There is generally some controversy over it. However, here's one article: (I have no idea how accurate this is): bodybuilding.com/fun/fat_loss_muscle_gain_trick.htm I can't find it, but I seem to remember there being a study to support it as well,…
  • I make something like this only in a mug cake and it's amazing! Pretty much this: ohsnapletseat.com/2013/10/14/5-minute-dessert-paleo-pumpkin-cake-cup/ I don't like having an entire cake in the house, so I make mug cakes so I'm not tempted to overeat.
  • Try and bank a few extra calories the week before and then don't worry about it.
  • Whoa, really? That's great because I love mug cakes. I've been using coconut flour, but I think PB2 would be way better.
  • Standard Disclaimer: Sorry for the standing-on-the-toilet shots. I've been taking pics here for years never thinking I'd make them public. This is ~3% reduction in body fat according to BodPod. It shows most in my abs. Weight is pretty much the same, or was in these pictures. Maybe a 1-2lb difference. February 2014…
  • First thing that popped up in Google: http://www.nifs.org/fitness-center/fitness-assessments/bodpod It's done at the local university here.
  • Recomp is really slow. I've been lifting for just over a year now and maintaining about the same weight. In March, 2014 I had a BodPod test done and came in at 18.9% body fat. I just had the same test last week and came in this time at 16% body fat. So over the course of 7 months I lost just a few % body fat. This is…
  • I'm still gearing up for Halloween in NOLA (coming up!! Whoop-whoop!!), so haven't quite started thinking about Mardi Gras. However, I usually hit one of the early Mardi Gras parades, and have at least checked the date. Mardi Gras is very close to my birthday this year, so maybe I'll skip KdV and head down. I have friends…
  • And lookee here! Amazing what the right Google search gives you. http://synapse.koreamed.org/Synapse/Data/PDFData/0214CNR/cnr-1-66.pdf
