  • I have no problem with admitting that I'm in the minority in the weight section. But - despite my initial reservations the men that frequent the weight section have accepted me. They have not taken turns to hit on me. I leave them to work out - they leave me to do the same. I'm not having a go at you - I like your…
  • Seriously??? A girl/woman in the weight room/section will only be spoken to if she is being hit on??? Bollocks to that! That is just as insulting as the beliefs held by many that women shouldn't be there isn't the first place. It's no wonder so many women are scared of lifting - first we have to get over the hurdle of…
  • I'm going to sit on the fence here. Do you go to a gym where lifting is prioritised? Are the men offering help completing sensible programmes? If so I'm going to be more inclined to listen to them - but only if they understand my goals and how to get there. Is your gym full of curl bros (like mine)? I find they are equally…
  • There are lots of squat variations. Have you tried a few? Are you struggling with all of them. All I can add on the flexibility bit is pilates has done wonders for me. Balance was my problem - when I stated lifting I couldn't do back squats. There was a lot of scary wobbling going on there! My trainer had me try front…
  • Are you going out for dinner with friends - if so simple - order what you want from the menu. If they are cooking for you then it's trickier. Personally I'd eat what was served up, smile say thank you, and enjoy the night with my friends. Then I'd be back on it with my next meal.
  • So much this! Unless your family engages in some weird weighing in rituals, they will never know how much you weigh. The only people that know how much I weigh are me, my best friend (we're both trying to lose weight - and I've been totally honest with her), and if anyone at MFP gives a s*** the random strangers that work…
  • Getting "toned" is not the same as getting to be underweight. Each needs a very different approach. You need to decide which you want (don't go chosing underweight), and right now it looks like you don't know - in your OP you said 106lb, a few posts later it's more. A word of warning though - you won't get any support…
  • same here.
  • The sauna reminds you of hot summer days, the jacuzzi is heaven on earth, the steam room clears you out nicely if you're getting a cold.
  • This was me. I'd lost 16lbs when I started Stronglifts - I gained 8 of them back. It's taken me 3 months to lose them again. There are times when I've stood on the scale and felt like giving up. But I haven't - because progress pictures. Seriously if you haven't taken pictures of yourself already do it now. I took my 3…
  • What do you want to do when you go there? Is there enough of whatever that is to keep you going? How long a membership are you tied into? If your gym doesn't end up meeting your needs can you move easily? If yes to both - you are golden. If no - think more carefully - I joined my gym, and tied myself to it for a year,…
  • I eat mine. I find fitbit monitors my calorie burn better than the guesses I put into MFP about my activity level when i started - and as fitbit amends that for me I see no need to change things. I'm lifting though - and I've found my body won't let me do that if I try to stick to a large deficit - so I won't consider not…
  • Whoop - this thread is back - definitely one of my favourites! Can't wait to get to the point I'm bulky enough to post a photo often in here!
  • I can't tell you if it works - if that's what you are asking - I couldn't get my head round not eating back exercise calories (I know they are included already) and I over ate - had to knock it on the head after just a few days before I ballooned! But yes - that's the way EM2WL works.
  • Hi Dayner - have you been reading EM2WL? If so - what you said is what they tell you to do.
  • I've read most the thread - and mainly what I've seen is someone that gets snotty with people trying answer their question. I won't bother again.
  • Just had a quick stalk of your profile - you don't fit my definition of bulky! You are gorgeous - so if that's what bulky is supposed to look like - then I want to get bulky!
  • Ok - fitbit doesn't chose your activity level on here you do - it's in the goals you set up on here. what fit bit does is monitor your calorie burn through out the day. And then tells MFP how much you actually burned. MFP then gives you an adjustment so that you hit the goal set here. If the goal is different the…
  • Yes! Omg yes! But then I tell both fitbit and MFP that I'm sedentary - when I know that I really am not - not even close. I have MFP set to create the deficit I want - if I move at all - fitbit tells MFP I've got off my butt and done something. So MFP has my deficit covered - fitbit rewards me for doing something -…
  • My rule is - if I drink it and it doesn't contain alcohol then it counts. I know others only count it if they drink water. Some days I just can't stomach that much water without something in it to make it more enticing.

  • My workout focus is on the strength side. But i only do that 3 days a week. If I feel the need to move on other days I'll go for a swim or dance. But I view those as optional extras - I don't feel guilty for missing out in those.
  • I do Stronglifts - I started out having a couple of sessions with a trainer - both to show me the lifts with the right form and to give me confidence to enter the free weights section. It was what I needed - but many others go it alone from day one.
  • I wasn't haven't a go at the OP - as I said her tips are fine. I only comment on them at all because we'd hijacked her thread with all the cake. Mmmmmm - cake
  • Definitely second this - I read the book and learned a lot about why lifting matters and eating to fuel your workouts. Then I got to the exercises - and freaked out. Too many to get my head round at that point! I went with Stronglifts - purely because I only had to work on 5 lifts - I also hired a trainer for a couple of…
  • To be fair to the OP - none of her tips were bad - and could be helpful to some - but none are necessary. Now back to the cake...
  • Neither - I'm diving head first into that piece of heaven!
  • Any kind of chocolate cake works for me - but if it's gonna be cheesecake of the chocolate kind you are gonna have to make sure there is enough to go round - after a day of water only and eating strawberries off a saucer I'd probably kill you for the last piece :)
