  • Could they be stress related? From someone who regularly gets hives, do you take super hot showers? Do you moisturize? A super hot shower, however nice it feels at the time, will give me hives and cause an eczema flare up. Have you used a different soap/lotion/perfume? What about dish or laundry soap? All purpose cleanser?…

  • OP, at first its about how much you want to be low carb. After a few weeks it becomes normal. I find myself writing potatoes on my grocery list (for the rest of the family) and still coming home without them because they're just not on my radar anymore. I'm never sure how much bread we have and if someone doesn't remind me…
  • All of the above plus radishes, cucumbers, and leafy greens (sometimes, depending on mood). Also lots of cheese, I realized just how much and how many varieties when I straightened up my fridge last night, and pepperoni slices, which are a convenient snack for work. Yogurt depends. If I'm in a yogurt stage (this changes) I…
  • Great job!
  • Good luck. I use a regular blender that is noisy but I just wait until everyone is up. I think shaking would work if the coffee is hot enough. Oh, and I use coconut oil and unsalted butter from Walmart or Aldi's. I think I saw the cost of the grass fed butter and figured the non-grass fed butter would work just fine for…
  • My gym teacher used to tell us to make sure we were breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth. Always seems to work for me.
  • I look at it as a reminder as to why I eat the way I do the majority of the time.
  • I've cut out most sugar and have found it to be fairly easy, actually. But then I've fully adopted a LCHF lifestyle that I must sustain for health reasons. I think some people have an easier time restricting sugar than others, probably for some reason I'll never know. If you notice its a problem for you, then restricting…
  • Personally I think the whole issue about schools "policing" kids' food is laughable at best. When my kids were in elementary school they stopped allowing the kids to eat candy at the Halloween party that was held at the last half hour of the day. The school said they would provide the snack, because candy was not healthy.…
  • I keep my carbs between 25-50 nearly every day. I'm not sure what being a grad student entails, but do you have space to batch cook? It would certainly be cheaper. That said, if you truly are set on doing the boxed lunches and such Atkins is a good place to start, and you might try Smart Ones by Weight Watchers. Usually…
  • Welcome! I second the Launchpad suggestion. Lots of good info, but feel free to ask questions. :)
  • You can add me but I don't always track.
  • Last night I get home and was "reminded" by my DDs that "we have a 4H thing tonight!" We have to be there in 45 minutes. Oy. Needless to say I did not get supper until about 8:30 last night BUT was able to resist that tray of cookies so generously offered. And I was hungry, but not ready to chew my arm off hungry.

  • I don't have anything to add for the food, but prayers for your friend. I could offer some tips on having twins (mine are 15 today) but my diabetes didn't start until they were about 5 or so.
  • Not anymore, sorry. I tried that for years and it really jacked up my system. LCHF may make losing weight a slower process, but its much more enjoyable.
  • I wouldn't call them re-feed days, but there are days when I eat more carbs than usual. One of those days will be tomorrow at my kids' birthday party. Its going to happen because I'm not planning and fixing a separate meal for myself. That said, I've been REALLY low carbing it this week. I'm part of a LC group on Facebook…
  • I'm glad you're feeling better! That's the best part about this way of eating. It sounds like you have a good grasp of things, but I would recommend not counting calories at first. Or, if you must, count them as more of an experiment than a guideline as to what you should be eating. Focus on getting enough fats so you're…
  • Welcome! It sounds like you're already on your way.
  • Don't go by just the scale. I use the scale, tape measure, pictures, clothing fit, and comments by a lady at work that I only see 1-2 a week (she tells me I look like I'm losing). If I don't notice at least one of these things changing I know its time to see where the issue may be. When you look at my scale weight it says…
  • Welcome! Counting calories didn't work for me at all, nor do "carbs in moderation." Now I watch carbs and the inches are coming off. Pounds are a little slower but I'm finally seeing an overall downward trend.
  • Welcome. A few here are low to zero carbs and do just fine on it. See posts by Fit Goat. :)

  • Wow, great results!
  • More water, less cheese usually helps me. :)
  • If I haven't for a few days I must walk. Its almost meditation for me and it doesn't matter if its the trail, the treadmill, or laps around the parking lot.
  • I use this link to help me with what is "normal." http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/14045524.php This gives an excellent way to lower blood sugar as well as find out what triggers spikes. Its different for everyone. I use One Touch Ultra mini, I think. I would like to try something different but my insurance covers this…
  • Welcome! Feel free to add me if you'd like, as well as any other "newbies."
  • Wow Keliandra, glad you found your way to LCHF. I, too, tried the diets given to me by experts and things got worse. Not to that extent though. Kudos for figuring it out for yourself before it was too late!
  • For the electrolytes, can you just drink some canned broth? Do you have that near you?
