  • We don't have the Fitbit thing but where I work its really convoluted. You take a '"test" to determine your health that includes a doctor's visit, blood work, BMI, a flu shot, a tobacco form, and health profile on our insurance's website. If you fail, and most do for one reason or another, you get a higher…
  • Nothing. There aren't many kids of trick or treating age left in my neighborhood and the ones that are go elsewhere. I actually used to take my kids to a different section of my neighborhood to the houses of the elderly ladies who attended the same church as us. They didn't get as much candy as in other areas, but what…
  • I like it but got away from it when my blender broke. This morning I had no blender and was out of coffee so I put coconut oil and butter in a measuring cup, nuked it, and made super hot caramel apple flavored tea. Stirred it together with one packet of Stevia and a dash of almond milk. Yummy. But now I'm out of tea…
  • Does it cause blood sugar spikes, that you can tell? If not, and your weight is staying where it should, I say eat it. In other words, if isn't broke, don't fix it.
  • You get excited because they put cubed cheese on the salad bar (today only, but still) in the cafeteria  . You've sadly realized that the cafeteria where you work, a teaching hospital that preaches health at every turn, is 98% carbs. :(
  • What do you consider easy? Do you have a crockpot? I make a lot of soups, stews, and roasted meats in the crockpot. Add veggies to the meat and done. Stir-fry's can be fairly easy, as well as quick and cheap. I don't have the link but Google Nerd Fitness' stir-fry. He gives pretty detailed instructions.
  • From Aldi I get the bag of chicken breasts and slow cook them in water with garlic powder and black pepper. These cook most of the day. I shred the chicken and divide it into freezer bags or containers and from those you can make all sorts of things. We do chicken alfredo (use veggies instead of pasta for lower calories),…
  • Yes, both my girls got it at age 11.
  • What I've found is that reducing calories while still eating enough to feel full means (for me) automatically cutting back on carbs. High carb-y foods that are non-veggie in nature tend to be higher in calories without much staying power.
  • It sounds like you have a nutritionist who is ill informed about low-carb diet plans. Veggies are a good way to fill up without adding a ton of calories. I agree with the above, fire the nutritionist.
  • I know, which is why I said might.
  • I would think a donut might undo the work you just did, though its your biz so if you want one have at it. Personally I find they give me heartburn and the spike in the blood sugar, along with the crash that soon follows, is really unpleasant.
  • I couldn't possibly give a definite answer as they both have their uses.
  • For me it included a wooziness that was the result of too little electrolytes and my blood sugar stabilizing (yes, I can feel this and I find it unpleasant but tolerable). I was cranky for a few days and I did crave sweets but it went away. I drank water with Crystal Light to offset the worst of the sweet cravings and…

  • Here we go again, round and round. I'm diabetic. Sugar has a negative effect one me, in more ways than one. The biggest issue is that the more I eat, the more I want to eat. I don't know or care if its psychological or physiological. Don't care, because I have to cut it out either way. That said, I've withdrawn from…

  • A friend and I tried to use the weight room in high school as well but were told a resounding no by the football team because they didn't want girls in there. The posters at MFP wonder why so many are intimidated by going into a gym as adults. I'd be willing to bet the ones intimidated have at least one issue stemming from…
  • No, the kids shouldn't be running things. However, if the purpose of PE is to teach kids to be active, they need to focus on a variety of activities, rather than certain sports that only a few can or will excel at. In my experience, the kids who did well at sports in PE already played them outside of class. I could never…
  • In my PE class they decided on a sport, set it up and threw you a ball. I hated playing sports. I was bad at it and didn't care if I hit or caught the ball. I loved to walk and did lots of it, but walking was not good enough. So I dressed, but mostly stood there, got my grade and left. A lot of kids felt humiliated by gym…
  • PE is a whole 'nother ball of wax. The majority of adults I have met who claim to "hate" exercise also have horror stories about PE. PE is good for the kids that are athletic but it can be torture for the kids who aren't. PE should be about getting kids to like exercise, not about new ways to bully the kids who don't like…
  • In order to teach it in school we first have to establish guidelines about what constitutes healthy eating. We would also have to include people with medical conditions and allergies and be able to offer alternatives. If one is allergic to peanuts but eats a plant based diet, what is a good protein for them to eat? If one…
  • I have eczema on my hands. I've had it for years and while LCHF helps a lot, as do the allergy shots I get, I still have itchy flair ups. Once or twice a day during a flair up I'll mix a little baking soda in my hand soap and this helps.

  • I just started a "chair" yoga class yesterday. It's a pilot program my company is ruining and I hope it sticks. I sometimes have a hard time with regular yoga, specifically my joints. The biggest thing I learned is that I love yoga but I need it in class form to keep me focused.

  • I will so be trying this. I need to make an Aldi run soon anyway.
  • @Raerising78, are you a member of the Low Carb group here? There might be some better answers for you there.
  • In for Ad Lib.
  • I'm one that doesn't completely trust those in the medical field. I've been at this awhile and the only thing I get from "them" is the same spiel that only proves they've read the manual. If I ask for examples or advise on how to follow their plans I'm given sort of a blank smile and the subject changes. I have a…
  • Oh dear, they mentioned my state. WV is notorious for poor food choices so it doesn't surprise me a preschool got in trouble for handing out candy. We my teenage daughters were in elementary school candy had been banned for all holiday parties yet the hot dogs (better than candy?!) they served at back to school night were…
  • Just throwing this out there but sometimes even when a person makes the effort to educate themselves they can get confused. There is a lot of information out there and even when a person consults the "experts" (i.e. nutritionists, etc) they can get conflicting information. I'm not making excuses for people, they are…
  • I'm not a gardener my husband and now daughters are. I think my daughter has started peppers indoors. I need to inspire someone to plant some squash.
