  • Terri - I log my stuff in gramms too. You can often choose between different units. When I search the data base, I enter 'carrots raw'. normally a choice pops up without an asterix next to it. Those entries are checked and have lots of different units to choose from. I've also entered alot of foods myself, when I couldn't…
  • My advice.....patience! This is not a quick fix. Do it for 4-6weeks. If you are still not losing, count on your non fast days (maintainance cals) for a while and see if you start losing, when sticking to them. Watch the long term trend over a month two three... Daily and weekly fluctuations are totally normal...salt, grain…
  • Rachel - you are overrestricting. Aside from that not being fun, it's also not very healthy, if you keep it up for a longer period of time. 1290x5 + 500x2 =7450 /7 = 1065cals per day = 55% deficit 2290x5 + 500x2 = 12450 / 7 = 1780 cals per day = 22% deficit 55% deficit is double the deficit that is recommended for healthy…
  • If you are new to the fast days, ease into them. Do a few at 700-800cals and then lower the cals a little from fast to fast. Try different approaches. 3 small meals, skipping breakfast + 2 meals, one larger meal. Whatever you think is best for you. Fast days do get easier, but even after 2yrs, some are easy and some are…
  • Any clues to what set it all off? Don't be too hard on yourself, but try to dust yourself off and start again. One day at a time is what I find best. A bit of exercise also gets me to feel good about myself and gets me back in the groove. Even if it's 'just' a brisk walk in the woods or the sun.
  • Hi Kaytee - sometimes a bouillon will help against dizzyness or a headache. The water you drink on a fast day can sometimes flush out too much of the sodium, causing these symptoms. Starting a new and hard exercise routine on your first fast might have caused this too. You sweat out more salt here and lost fluids. Ease…
  • Skip the second fast if it does not fit in. You could just skip breakfast all week, doing 16:8 to save some cals. In the end skipping a fast is not a big deal in the long term scheme of 5:2
  • I was the same - get up and go..... every day....sometimes again later in the day Since 5:2, I'm much less regular about the time of day and maybe 4-5x per week, but consistency is much better. I integrate 5g chia seeds into my daily diet. Like linseeds they are a bit slimy when soaked and help get things moving. From what…
  • They say the sense of smell is directly linked to your memories and emotions. Possibly one of the reasons your cravings are linked to foods from your childhood as a huge part of the taste of food is actually it's odor. I do think, you are on to something!
  • ^^This! Absolutely. Monday is always my highest weight of the week and fluctuates more than my Saturday morning weigh in. Why? A little bit of indulgence, more grain carbs, higher sodium, more exercise on the weekends. All of this leads to water retention. My Monday weight is usually 1-3lb higher than Saturday morning. My…
  • Are you done already, Karen?? It's just 10AM here. But I'm definitely fasting. Had a bit of a blow out this weekend. Together with the water retention from too much sodium and sore muscles, I'm at a long time high this morning.....
  • Karen - different strokes for different folks, but 1500 on a non fast day would be rather low if your TDEE is 2000. You get your 20-25% deficit through your fast days. No need to restrict on non fast days. The math... (2000x5 + 500x2)/7 = 1570 1570*100/2000 =78% thus 22% deficit over the course of your week. You can count…
  • I know the kidney and parsley bit through my horse. He had some problems with his kidneys and I was told by a natural practitioner to give him parsley 'tea'. ;-) I'll see what I can do. They are just tips I picked up here and there or empirical knowledge through my personal experience and data I track.
  • Foami: Could be the parsley, as that gets the kidneys working. No parsley in my experiment, so we shall see :) Oh my...did Jillian Michael's 6 wk / 6pk - abs and 30min on my rebounder yesterday and today.....My abs are in there! I know it, 'cause I feel 'em! ...as well as my inner thighs and arms from all of the different…
  • Yup! There are quite a few of us :) You will find us here http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/100058-5-2-fasting MFP isn't really set up for 5:2. Just set your goal to maintainance at your own activity level. On fast days just stick to your 500 (600) cals. If the message from MFP bothers you on your fast days, quick…
  • Foami - I'm in the middle of my pizza - pasta senza gluten experiment :D Had homemade pizza yesterday - up 1kg overnight Barilla spaghetti for lunch today with homemade veggie sauce Will see what the scale does tomorrow morning. I will give you an update. :)
  • Love your reasoning jknight!! I didn't fall...just enjoyed my after vacation too much ;) That will be turned around this week :)
  • I know. I'm one of those oldies. But you jumped in, when needed. That is worth alot!
  • Not buying the Orlcam! You got this all started!
  • Very wise! :)
  • Thanks Foami. Been at this game long enough to know, how much I have put into my system on a given day ;-) This week...too much. And as a scientist, I am my own guinea pig, learning how and when my body works and what tends to make my weight fluctuate. I don't always have a reason, but often I do figure it out in the long…
  • jknight001 - you're such a big loser :p Will jump up and down, when you reach that 14! bburg - good news on the weight. Hope you get your meds sorted and feel better soon. No loss for me this week, but at least I've been back between 57-58kg again in the last few weeks. Gained a little bit due to my vacation days and the…
  • Always an awesome feeling to break in to a new bracket!
  • It happens to the best of us. No worries, just fast another day or take a few days 'off' and jump back in next week.
  • I'm a foodie....if I don't track on normal days, I tend to overeat. Guess that's how I got here... I am close to maintainance and have noticed tracking every day messes with my head sometimes. I tend to forget to listen to the hunger signals on non fast days. So atm I'm counting on some days, just counting treats on other…
  • Fasting today. Bet I'm not alone ;-) Had a bit of a fall out with a nut cake yesterday after closing my diary, so it is good to fast today....
  • I still need to keep up with 2 fasts per week. Seems I still like food too much. If I reduce the number of fasts my weight tends to creep up. With 2 I can maintain without being very strict on non fast days.
  • Sorry to hear about your accident. It sounds like you are doing very well despite it all! If you can keep your spirits up and your mind on track through this, you will remain very successful, I'm sure! Hope you heal well!
  • Almost abandoned today's fast as the chocolate bar and some fruit cake attacked me. But I WON!! Just 90 cals over my fast, so I'm definitely counting it ;-) 9pm and drinking my bed time tea.
  • The range is fine, Karen . 50g / 1.52m gives you a bmi of 21.5. If you find that low, aim for 50 - 55kg. I'm 157cm and 57-58kg atm. Bmi of 23.5. My range is 49-59kg. Not that the bmi is totally relevant, but I'd like to get to 54-55kg, which is right in the middle of my healthy range.
