Cool. BTW - how's it going with your new HRM?
-
That is too funny

I have also read in the past that spicy food increases metabolism. I don't know why. You could probably Google it.

To check your scale, weigh something that you know for sure it's weight like a 5 lb dumbbell or a 5 lb bag of potatoes. I think I'll try it myself.

You should track everything that is happening right now by keeping notes. I don't see a way on MFP to see your notes over an extended period all at once but that doesn't mean it isn't here somewhere. I keep an Excel spreadsheet with my weight each week and lots of notes about what I ate that week, how much I excercised…

I tried the brownie recipe (see previous post for details) and it was very good. Even my discriminating husband & kids liked them. Are they supposed to be kind of gooey or maybe I put in a bit too much apple sauce? After the maximum baking time on the recipe, I inserted a sharp knife and it was clean, but when I cut it up,…

Good idea. I'll have to do that once the HRM that I ordered arrives.
-
Cool. What excercise did you do that burned 300 cal in 45 mins?
-
VERY interesting point about deducting BMR calories from your excercise calories!! Now, how do you figure out how many calories you use an hour during the day?? There's probably a % you could deduct from the excericse calories.

It's just eating food with more volume for the same calories as denser food. The person who coined the theory is Dr. Barbara Rolls. She says we crave volume of food and that's why diets fail b/c you eat small amounts of calorie dense foods and then are hungry. The front of her book says it all. There's a picture of a a…

Tam - just curious, how tall are you and what's your goal weight? You are doing unbelievable!
-
keep us posted how you like it. I ordered one too and can't wait until it arrives and I can see if my excercise burning calculations were right. Let us know if it motivates you.

I looked up what I used to do when on WWs. Their old rule was that you can earn up to 4 activiy points (I think that's about 240 calories of excercise a day). That's it. If you excercise more, you can't eat it. I read up on their current boards and seems that is now outdated. They say you can eat as many as your earn…

I think I remember that Weight Watchers has a formula for eating excercise calories. I think it's half. I'll have to look that up.

Just curious for those who excercise a TON -- do you eat all your excercise calories and still loose weight? I'm talking about someone whose excercise calories are say over 800 a day. Just curious. I'm eating most of my excercise calories but I burn a lot less and was wondering if someone really looses if they eat that…

In a nutshell. You need to eat no fewer than 1200 calories a day. This is what your body needs for it's basic functioning. Add to that any calories you burned from excercise. Theoretically, you should be eating 3300 calories a day (1200 + 2200) though that seems high. You'll have to test it out. Think about it even without…

May I also suggest you'll be fuller if you eat more volumous types of food. You should read up on this concept. Your body craves volume and you get fuller and can eat more for the same calories of grains, veg, fruit and low fat dairy and protein. Think about it, what fills you up more, 1 small cup cake or a bowl of fruit…

weigh yourself and be accountable as you said. I too have prefered to ignore the scale because I don't want to be depressed by how much I've put back on. I think this has always been my downfall in maintaining my weight and why I've lost and gained the same amount of weight for the last number of years. Weigh yourself,…

As has been said, eating more often is good for your metabolism especially for people like me with a hypothyroid problem. It really helps with hunger. A new trick I just learned is to prepare your whole meal but only eat half, drink some water and wait at least 25 minutes (that's how long it takes your body to trigger to…

I'm getting bored of the music on my (actually my son's) MP3. What's the deal with downloading MP3s from the internet? Is it legal (I know I sound out of it when I ask that). If anyone knows sites where the downloads are free and it's legal, please let me know.

Sounds like the sleep schedule of a new MOTHER not a new baby!

I don't keep Ramadan but I do have my own religious fast days throughout the year. What I've found helps is the following: 1. Cut out caffeine otherwise you get a withdrawl headache when you are fasting. 2. Cut out salt and sugar. If you are fasting everyday however, you probably need sugar after the fast to bring back…

I don't know why but none of these pics are showing up on my PC.

If you go off any meds make sure you go off one at a time!! Give yourself time to notice any changes having to do with that particular medication. If you go off multiple meds at once you won't be able to isolate the effects. Good luck.

Hey Tam, Do you have any "before" pictures? It's so hard to imagine you 108 pounds heavier then you are in your current pictures!!

I have a question: If you choose "active" as your lifestyle based on working out a lot and then you add your excercise points on top of that won't you be overeating? I mean, isn't excercise already calculating in your needs if you choose "active" as your lifestyle? I chose sedentary and then I add my excercise calories on…

Actually, if you know some bible (old testament), that concept existed when the children of Israel left Egypt and were traveling in the desert. G-d gave them "mana" each day which was the biblical variation of "People Food". You got just what you needed for the day and if you were greedy and tried to horde more it would go…

BTW, I used to work out 3 times a week at the gym without a problem. Now I can jog for about 15 minutes without having to stop and sometimes feel like bricks are attached to my legs when I'm running. Is that a symptom of Myofascial?
-
If you have this, what do you do to help it? Excercise can cause me a lot of discomfort afterwards but I'm still going at it and starting to feel that in the long run it will help. Any tips appreciated.

Article says those with slow thyroid should deduct 200 calories from their daily needs. Anyone else hear of this?
