Benefits of drinking water upon waking
A few days ago I heard that drinking about 16 oz of luke warm water or more, on an empty stomach in the morning helps aid digestion, especially constipation. Although I drink plenty of water during the day as well as eat lots of fiber, I still need other aids like fiber & other supplements, prunes etc. to get me going. I…

Do you eat b/f excercise in the morning?
For those who excercise early in the morning, do you eat a little something b/f you start? Seems unhealthy to me to excercise on an empty stomach when you haven't eaten all night but on the other hand, it's hard to excercise right after eating.

Chinese coleslaw
I've been making this for years after eating it at a friend's house. She made it with cabbage, roasted almonds and chinese noodles and tons of sugar in the dressing. I've adapted it to be diet friendly. 1 bag chopped cabbage for coleslaw (you can buy in most produce sections) 2 green onions chopped cranberries (optional -…

Diet STRAWBERRY PIE
Found this in my files but I don't remember if it's good. I think it was. 1 small package (1.1 oz) sugar-free Cook and Serve vanilla pudding 2 cups water 1 small package (0.3 oz) sugar-free strawberry Jell-O 4 cups sliced strawberries (I think I used frozen when fresh were out of season) In a medium saucepan, stir together…

Need female advice on wearing Polar F6 HRM
I just got a Polar F6 HRM. I was very excited to try it out today so I put it on according to the instructions and went for a walk/jog. However, it didn't seem to consistantly monitor my heart rate. I would start to run and it would stay at the same heart rate for a minute or so b/f changing. If I stopped runnig but kept…

"Biggest Loser" video & my questions
I'm kinda new to this show. My interest was peaked from all the posts about it so I went to the site to poke around. I watched this video of the trainer explaining the concept of calorie counting, metabolism and excercise. http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser/video/clips/week-1-jillians-facts/661745/ Some questions I have:…

excercising in bits and pieces
I've been trying to walk instead of taking the car when I do errands close by. If I walk to the store (5 min each way), walk to a teacher's meeting (8 mins. each way etc.) walk to the mailbox (4 mins each way) etc., I accumulate a total of 30 minutes of walking or more a day, albeit in small spurts. I read somewhere (I…

http://www.fatfree.com
Just came across this and thought it looked like a good resource. There are tons of fat-free recipes listed. If you make one and it comes out good, let us know. I tried the Oatmeal Apple sauce raisin cookies and they weren't so great. I baked them in a square instead of making cookies. They'd probably be ok cut up in…

It takes 25 minutes to feel full
In one of those posts that keeps getting bumped up for newbies, it mentions that it takes about 25 minutes for your brain to signal to your stomach that you are full. The suggestion in the article is to eat half your meal, drink some water, wait about 20 min. and see if you are still hungry. Most of the time you won't be…

apple crisp
I had an apple in the fridge that was a bit too soft for me but I didn't want to waste it so I nuked it chopped up into small pieces with a little water, cinnamon and a Tbsp of dry oatmeal. I sprayed the top with Pam. When it was ready (@ 3 min on high) I sprinkled with sweetner. It was very good and got me thinking about…

Eating tons of fiber & still not regular
This isn't a pleasant topic. I often have bouts of constipation and I thought I'd gotten over that in the last few weeks. I'm not exactly constipated, I do "go" most days but considering the amount of fiber I eat (around 35 g a day) plus all the water, I'd expect better results. For instance, I ate about 35 g of fiber…

Beware: some items in food database are wrong
I've noticed quite a few incorrect entries in the food database. Be careful that you don't over or under eat because of wrong data. For instance, I thought 300 calories for a cup of pasta sounded too high. When I checked on Calorie King http://www.calorieking.com it showed 1 cup of cooked pasta at closer to 200 calories. I…

Magnesium for constipation
Someone on this board suggested taking magnesium supplements for constipation. While I haven't tried it, I intend to do so. It seems logical and simpler then other supplement remedies that require powders and other variations of the supplement which are hard to find. Here is an article I found on the topic (it mentions…

Why is toast a trigger food for me and not bread?
When I eat a sandwich with toasted bread I always want more. It's seems like a trigger food. Whereas bread (though I like it) doesn't that same powerful effect on me. When I was youn, I used to come home from school and toast piece after piece and eat it with peanut butter and the like. I'd eat half a loaf of toasted bread…

88 cal brownie recipe question
I tried the brownie recipe (see previous post for details) and it was very good. Even my discriminating husband & kids liked them. Are they supposed to be kind of gooey or maybe I put in a bit too much apple sauce? After the maximum baking time on the recipe, I inserted a sharp knife and it was clean, but when I cut it up,…

The difference 1 inch can make!
I started this about 3 weeks ago in an effort to loose the 10 pounds I've gained since I last lost and since I put out my back 1.5 years ago and hardly excercised. It's taken 3 weeks to get things reved up. I lost and gained, was bloated, constipated, TOM etc. Now I'm finally down almost 2 pounds and 1 inch. What a…

Eating tons of excercise cals & still loosing?
Just curious for those who excercise a TON -- do you eat all your excercise calories and still loose weight? I'm talking about someone whose excercise calories are say over 800 a day. Just curious. I'm eating most of my excercise calories but I burn a lot less and was wondering if someone really looses if they eat that…

Is eating excercise calories for everyone?
I have Hashimoto's thyroid disease that is treated so theoretically my BMR should be the same as anyone else but I have the sinking feeling it is still lower as I have other symptoms of hypothyroid that have never gone away even with medication. weigh-in and T.O.M.
Yesterday I weighed myself and saw my first real loss after about 10 days. I'd lost about 1.8 pounds. Today is my offical weigh-in but I'm now *UP* 1 pound. Before weighing myself I noticed that I just got my T.O.M. I'm guessing that the 24 hour gain is water weight?? I'm asking b/c I take Yasmin pills and my doctor always…

What food satifies you when you are starting to feel like a
With all the low-fat, vegetables, fruit and grains I eat, I sometimes get a craving for something ..., something..., well it's hard to explain. Something solid. If I eat half a peanut butter sandwich (or a whole one if it's lunch time), it really helps and can easily fit into my food plan for the day. Maybe it's the fat in…

Polar F4 heart monitor questions
I've heard this is a good device especially if I want it to count calories. The downs I've read are: 1. Proprietary battery that is hard to replace 2. no back light on the watch (hard to see at night). Any comments? Also, if I want to share with my husband, should I just order the men's version or will the strap be too…

Killing 2 birds with one stone
I'm trying to get back into the excercise mode. I've always had to push myself even though I used to be pretty athletic when I got going. Now I get sore after every small feat. Volumetrics & feeling full
I just wanted to mentioned this book and this way of eating for those unfamiliar. The book is by Barbara Rolls but you can get some basic info from Googling.
