  • any quick method of weight loss isn't recommended. the quicker you lose weight, the quicker your body will gain it back, because for three weeks, it's more than likely you didn't develop a lifestyle change and will go back to your bad habits. my suggestion is, reexamine why you want those lbs off, and if you want them off…
  • I almost don't want to tell myself that zig-zagging works, because if I have food in front of me I have very little will power and will eat more just thinking ''I can eat a little more today as long as I eat a little less tomorrow,'' then ''tomorrow'' will come around and I just might get hungry in between meals and hate…
  • you should not be eating 1200 calories a day if your height+weight ask you for a much larger amount. your body goes into starvation mode if your calorie deficit is too large, and weight loss will be VERY difficult.
  • I personally rather set everything as sedentary and manually enter any exercise, so I'll go with underestimating.
  • Very good suggestions, I should definitely include yoga or pilates in my workouts. I do know I have to start thinking about it more often and correcting it every time I catch myself in a bad position. I wish I had a sensor that zapped me whenever I'm sitting wrong!
  • it makes a really big difference on my body if I don't eat before working out. I get drained quickly and don't have nearly as much endurance.
  • If you really can't bring food from home, stick to the healthiest options. Also just focus on what you can control. If you can't eat healthy while at school, eat healthy when you're home, which includes breakfast and dinner. If you find yourself over your calories, start exercising regularly so you can afford to have those…
  • wow, you look absolutely stunning! keep up the AMAZING work!
  • Psh, psychological! ;) I've never gone hungry on my 1,200 levels, if I do it's because I ate some type of junk in the day :) If it stresses you out less, stay without an HRM. I find a certain peace in numbers though. I always just want to know I'm not going over, and if I've been good enough for a 1/2 cup of ice cream ;)

  • yep, definitely eat something before working out. The other day I decided to have a small breakfast (a little bit of yogurt) then I went for a 2mi run and I could barely finish. It was horrible. Since then I work out in the afternoon/night. I feel like my body can take on a lot more, I'm sure everyone is different though.…
  • for shoulders: http://fitbie.msn.com/exercise/scaption-and-shrug-men#nogo (helps for women too) I incorporate these into my strength training routine. Other than that, I'd make a habit of stretching regularly.
  • Hm, do you eat late at night? I've never been a nighttime eater, and I've always found I weigh the least in the mornings, before breakfast and after going to the bathroom. I always have the feeling of waking up skinny, probably because I spend hours awake during nighttime, well after dinner, without eating anything, and…
  • this is too much of a generalization. I understand, but some people's realization that they're fat only makes them eat more and stress more. The fact that they've gotten to the point that they've gotten is depressing, and I rather know someone fat and happy than fat and depressed. It depends on the person, but if turning…
  • do you have a kitchen? If so the trick is really to cook for yourself. There was so much junk when I was in college, everywhere, it wasn't until I got an apartment that I could finally eat healthier. Get more fruits and veggies, and eat lean meats :) Also, if you have at least a microwave, you can microwave certain…
  • steph, I'd trust the Polar. If you're using a treadmill that doesn't take into consideration age + weight, it might be programmed for the average overweight joe who likes seeing he burned xx number of calories on the treadmill, the makers figure everyone else will be happy seeing that number too. if you're doing light…
  • I paid $47 for a used polar f11 on ebay. It's hard to find polars this cheap, but if you hunt on ebay for long enough you may find the occasional bargain.
  • Yep... you can't spot-reduce fat. Hips/thighs are the hardest to lose, depending on your genetics and where you gain weight first.
  • You won't get pale or orange, your eyes won't get red and you won't grow a third arm :) Starvation mode means your body doesn't have enough nutrients to work efficiently, so your metabolism slows down and fat loss slows down. It also gets harder to work out and you notice your stamina decreases.
  • I would love it if someone corrected me too.
  • I can somewhat relate on one thing. If you're stressed about what has been happening recently, diet/exercise can definitely help keep your mind off of things, or at least that's what has been helping me lately. Having something to distract me during the day is great, and if it's helping me get healthier/fitter then it's…
  • Thanks, this helps a ton, I was about to keep working out like a madwoman and my body would continue to hate me. The other day I had such a crappy strength training session, I didn't have the strength I normally have to even finish 5 pushups. I was alternating strength training days with high intensity cardio days and…
  • have any ladies in here started to strength train? (not for bodybuilding) if so, what sorts of exercises do you do?
  • I think someone that has succeeded in losing those last 10 pounds should share her secret so we can all follow ;) I'm considering starting the 30 day shred tomorrow. Either that or... getting a gym subscription finally.
  • Steve, I was wondering what your thoughts are on what you could call the ''right'' amount of exercise. I asked you some questions earlier in this thread and at that time I was working out every other day, and after a ''food slip'' I decided to start working out everyday. I realize I made the choice just to try to recover…
  • 10 pounds left to lose and my weight has been zig zagging annoyingly. Although I've done a few sports in my lifetime (nothing too intensely) I never worked out, ever. I've recently been working out every day and have been seeing changes, but one slip like I had on Valentine's day weekend and the weight is back on. Friend…
  • I have this problem permanently, haha. Just have smaller portions and substitute things they're having for something healthier, and workout, a lot.
  • welcome :) discipline is definitely a keyword.
  • Hi mrjason, What you wrote hits close to home, my dad weighs around 320 right now also, but he's 57. Once I joined this site and started reading on weight loss (for myself) I started passing on the knowledge and have at least got him to work out every morning. I will soon try to get him to join, or at least start logging…
  • welcome! this site really is good for keeping track of calories lost and gained, as well as tracking exercise. I'm also short (5'2") and am also in to lose 10-15 lbs. I've already lost 5 of them, so you can too!
