  • My 5K race got cancelled tonight because of the 96 degree temperatures. Guess I'll have to find another 5K race to do in September. Now, I have to focus on my triathlon training.
  • 1. I find time is not "always on my side". I can only wake up at 5:30AM so many mornings in a row. 2. There is such a sense of accomplishment with running. I really enjoy getting faster or longer with each run. Races are great too. I am also motivated by the maintenance and/or loss of weight.
  • I don't normally log daily activities. However, if I have a non-exercise day and instead spent the time cleaning my house, I will log that. Or, if I walk to the post office or library, etc, I will log that. But, I don't make those entries often.
  • The important thing is that you set a goal and you posted your goal. I think you will find a way to reach that goal. It is completely attainable. When I am on a machine- tread, arc, ellipt- and I think I can't go any farther, I think of ancestors before me who had no choice but to row boats in the bellows of ships to make…
  • I got in a 3.2 mile run on the treadmill this morning.
  • I would like to own a Bed and Breakfast. I love meeting people from all over and making breakfast.
  • I would say "sliced bread" is exaggerated. However, it has made a difference in my digestive health, but I don't want to be all "TMI". I will say though now that I am on it, I will probably take it the rest of my life. I don't want to go back to the way I was. Besides that, I no longer NEED naps in the afternoon. If I want…

  • I did my same course as Friday, but couldn't jog the whole thing this morning. I could tell that jogging the 3 miles in the morning on Friday and kayaking 3 miles at night played a part in this morning's "failure". I didn't want to push myself too far b/c tomorrow I would like to try to bike to the health club, swim in the…
  • I LOVE to hoop. I was lucky enough to find a Hoopnotica class at a local park district. Once you learn how to keep the hoop up, it becomes easier and you learn how to hoop in other ways than around your hips. It is half fitness and half dance.

  • Finally- it's Friday. All conditions were right for a good run this morning- nice weather and I felt awake and ready to go. I am pretty sure I ran 3.1 miles. If not, I was pretty close. What a difference good workouts make. Two weeks ago, I tried running this same course and I was walking parts of it. I also cut myself off…
  • I don't run enough to have "rest days" per se. However, I try not to let any day go by without any activity. If I am not in the mood for straight-up exercise, I will do something else. For example, I will hula hoop for 1/2 hour or go for a walk. This morning I was too tired, so instead I tried a new yoga video. It may even…

  • Nice job for besting your best time. You should feel proud of yourself. I bet you will continue to feel stronger at each race. Good Luck.
  • It's been awhile since I was sub30 min for a 5K, but it is possible. I would add sprints to my training in order to increase my overall 5K pace. Whether you sprint on the track or the treadmill, you want to try to run as fast as you can for .25miles (once around the track). It may even take a bit to get up to that distance…
  • Great job. Thanks for starting this thread. For myself, I jogged 3.1 miles today. However, I started out by walking, so it took me about 45:00. I was more in the 11min/ mile range. I did it on the treadmill. I think I was inspired by my last post.

  • The Virtual Running Club Group has been created. Look at the top of your screen and next to Message Boards, you will see Groups. Search for our group. I have loved that so many were excited by the thread and filled 4 pages. By having a group, each new topic can have it's own thread so that we don't have one looooooong…
  • Thanks Missy. I hope so too. I found out we can have our own threads in this group setting with a different thread for each topic. This way so we don't have one thread that is 10+ pages long and people miss info that would be relevant to them.
  • I'll start. I have been doing some kind of running ever since HS (1980's). Nine years ago, I was introduced to 5K runs, Adventure Racing and Triathlons. My longest race is a 10K. With work, family and a recent foot surgery (Aug. 2010), I haven't been running so much. I am lucky if I can run once a week. However, my goal is…
  • Hey, Big C- I am glad you asked a question like this. This is exactly why I wanted to start this group. I love forums like this. I will be creating a group called Virtual Running Club in the Groups section on MFP. You are all invited to come along.
  • I love Dailymile. It's an awesome website for tracking how much you ran and it let's you see your mileage on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. [/quote] I may have to check out Dailymile. I like to see my progress in chart form. Thanks for the suggestion. By the way, another bad night of sleep. Too much stress at work this…

  • Didn't sleep well last night. Missed my morning run. But the day is not over for some type of workout. Lori
  • Day Two: No alarm needed! Yay! Jogged my same route as yesterday- didn't walk at all. Legs felt better today. Not sure if I want to jog tomorrow too or do a strength training video. I should probably do both- jog in the morning and video at night.
  • Great Job for Day 1 of our Virtual Running Group. You all make me want to run again tomorrow. I am wondering if it is best to start our own group since there is a section for that on MFP. Is that the correct "netiquette"?
  • I did it. I actually woke up (alarm needed) and went for a run. It was more like a jog and a bit of walking. Unfortunately, I am not the runner I used to be. I took too much time off after foot surgery- for no good reason. Thanks for joining me on this week of kick starting my running again. Have you ever heard the saying…
  • I have to cook for my husband and 2 boys. I make my plate portions about the same size as I would for my two young children, instead of my husband. So, when it comes to potatoes (small reds, for example), he gets 2 potatoes, I get one. Or maybe just a 1/2 and my son who likes potatoes gets the other half. I find I lose the…
  • Do you mean that you can't keep it spinning or you get bored? If it's the spinning, you need to work more on technique. Hips should either move forward/back with feet staggered or hips side to side with feet parallel. If you are bored, use the hoop for both off the body and the on the body tricks. I like the video clips…
  • According to my Hoopnotica instructor, she said 600 calories an hour. I know I didn't burn that much in class, but it may be different with a video.
  • Sorry, I just figured out how to "quote" someone and now I can't remove this post. In my previous post, I wish I had learned how to quote someone before I finished my post.
