finally got the picture to show correctly

Yes it could. I'm a scale junky. I "gain" about 5 pounds every day...sometimes more, sometimes less. Then I "lose" it by morning. The more you weigh, the more you can fluxuate. If it bothers you, don't weigh at night. If you find it kind of fascinating, like I do...weigh a couple of times a day and keep a chart. You'll…

I remember how discouraging that was. It seemed like it took people forever to notice. But eventually they will. And actually maybe some people have already, but they want to be absolutely sure. Also, some people will never say anything...maybe they worry that it's insulting to mention it or something. But it won't be long…

I have totally been there. It bugged me a lot at first, but I kept going. Pretty soon I got so focused on what I was doing that I didn't notice or care. And then one day I looked around and discovered that I wasn't the biggest anymore. I am not the smallest...but I am getting close to being average. I have gotten smaller,…

I think I started liking it better after I started to notice improvements. Running is hard, especially if you are new at it, and most especially if you are overweight or not in great shape anyway. It hurts sometimes, and it's hard to breathe. There are still times that I hate it...while I'm doing it. But I started to learn…

You could sure try a free podcast to see if it works for you. I love books on tape / podcasts, but unfortunately running is still so challenging for me that I can't concentrate on them while I'm running. I can while walking, but all I can manage while running is music...preferably something fairly fast. It is partly why I…

If you were really eating under 900 calories, I would consider it a problem. However, I kind of think that maybe you might be underestimating at times. It is really easy to do. I know I have done it. I "eyeball" a serving instead of weighing it, etc., and I am optimistic. I think if you ate just 900 calories more than a…

Check with your doctor because it *could* be something wrong. However, people's heart rates vary based on age, fitness level, and genetics. The listed rates on the machines are averages, not absolutes. I was concerned about my heart rate at first so I asked "Dr. Google," and I found that a more accurate test of heart…

The best thing to do for any running injury is to build up slowly. Start with just doing a couple of running workouts a week (30 minutes) and build gradually. Your bones and joints need more time than your cardiovascular system does to adapt, especially since you are already fairly in shape because of the swimming. You…

5'5" and 105 is a BMI of 17.5....that is underweight. That is concerning as being underweight can cause health problems. I am not generally a believer in "starvation mode", but I am wondering if your body is adapting to a low calorie level and trying to protect itself.

"Skinny" means different things to different people. Sure there is such a thing as "too skinny," but someone who is over 300 pounds has a long time before she has to worry about that. Feel free to add me OP. I know what it is like to battle a food addiction, and whereas I agree with some of the other posters that learning…

I started doing it because of a running injury...It hurts a lot at first, but then after you get used to it, it feels really good. Now I try to do it after every workout, and so far I haven't hurt anything else.

I agree that the best thing to do for the foot pain is to check with a doctor. But as far as running shoes go...I would love to support a local running store, but unfortunately there aren't any within three hours of me. I bought some at one once on a trip, but after they got uncomfortable and worn out, I didn't have the…

I started running at 240 pounds. I'm 5'6, so I was quite overweight. You can run while overweight, but I do think you need to be maybe more careful than your average runner. First, as others have mentioned, buy good shoes for your running style...especially if you over-pronate, you'll want something with stability. Next,…

I did at first. I think it's very possible to lose weight just with diet. I don't really exercise even now to lose weight as much as I do for other benefits...like heart and just feeling better. But I have noticed that when I do exercise more, I lose more quickly.

Don't peel your potatoes; that's where all of the nutrients are :).

I have one. I do have the wireless one, which I like because it will use bluetooth to connect to an app on my cell phone. Otherwise you have to wait until you plug it into your computer. I like the more instant gratification. It is interesting to see which types of exercise burn more calories, and I found it motivating to…

Squats are HARD for a beginner or anyone with weak leg muscles. If you fall over backwards, you probably don't have enough strength to do them correctly yet. If you do them, I would put a chair behind you, and not use weights at all. The chair will give you the confidence that you aren't going to break something, and it…

Me too. It is possible to control it...at least most of the time. I still fall off the wagon every now and then. You have to just jump right back on the next meal or day.

Just add the sweetener stuff. If you really want to drink plain water, then gradually decrease the amount you put in, until there's none left, but I don't see why. The body is quite good at filtering out all that stuff anyway and getting the water it needs. It'll get it from fruits and vegetables too. There isn't any…

The more you have to lose, the longer it takes for people to notice. I don't think anyone noticed on me until I'd lost 40 or 50 pounds, (other than people who knew I was working on it). But then all of a sudden everyone started saying something. I think people wait until they are *sure*, because they don't want to call…

I started out at just about your weight last May and now I'm 81 pounds down. It does feel tremendously better. The most important thing in my opinion is diet. Exercise helps, but it is really easy to overcompensate for exercise and eat too many calories. So I would say first get your diet down, and then add in some…

Glute bridges are great. You can make them harder by adding weight or by doing them one legged.

I don't think that's the best way to deal with a food addiction. Is it really going to be reasonable to NEVER have a piece of birthday cake or chocolate again? No cookies at Christmas? I think that kind of all or nothing thinking will just lead to binging and guilt. I think it is reasonable to tell yourself that you are…

For me it was a little like an epiphany. I just decided to do it. I'd been "trying" for years and not succeeding. I wish I knew exactly what caused the change in my thinking. I know that I was getting annoyed at all the "skinny" people around me, feeling like I didn't fit in, but it's been that way all my life. This time…

Yes, I've been on steroids...fortunately just short term, but they did make me really hungry. I didn't lose while I was on them, but didn't gain either. I would say exercise as much as you can...for one thing you can eat more. Also it distracts you from food...gives you something healthy to focus on.

I do, because turns out they really have calories, even if weight watchers doesn't think so. Besides, I want credit for eating them. But you can sure try not logging them and see if you still lose weight. The great thing about this site is that you get to make up your own rules. I don't log water or vitamins, but some…

Most people who lose weight gain it back with any diet gain it back. Period. If you count calories and then stop, you'll gain it back. If you eat Paleo or low carb or grapefruit or whatever and then stop, you'll gain it back. You just have to be one of the ones who defy the statistics. For me calorie counting makes more…

I don't like them much either, but even at my advanced age(43), I am getting better. The thing about eating less is that pretty soon you start getting hungry...which I had rarely experienced....and then even some vegtables start tasting better.

I'm far from an expert, but I've read a lot. From what I've read, you do need to rest between sets...but you can rest your biceps while you are working your hamstrings, or whatever...that way you don't have to stay in the gym forever.
