See but I can talk the entire time regardless of pace. LOL Personally I consider easy runs for me to be my marathon pace (or rather what I am aiming for my marathon to be). Perhaps I am doing a bit of "sand bagging" for the marathon in April though as it is my 1st marathon. I am aiming to finish around 3:55 which is about…

I understand what you are saying - i.e. you never want to make it a habit of taking the easy way out of your training. Your post actually reminds me a lot of an article I just read this week on Blake Russell (Ran in the Bejing Olympics Marathon)…

Didn't you just finish (or are finishing) up your last week of grad school before spring break? Could it be that you are just overall mentally exhausted right now? Maybe just try to switch up your workouts if possible. Try a new route you've been wanting to do or just focus on nice, easy runs and not worry about…

I completely understand. I feel like the last 6 years or so (i.e. post kids) I was in a comfort zone of just running a few days a week and being ok with just finishing races/runs. I was also 15lbs heavier then now. The combo of the weigth loss and the inspiration from this thread have done wonders for my mentality. I am…

OMG! I hate wildlife! LOL. I am with @4leighbee on this - I would rather take my chances with crazy drivers and random weirdos on the bike trail! Thank goodness you are ok.

I am not sure what the 2nd one is but it is apparently deemed "not appropriate for work" by our IT dept! The website is blocked. lol :P I may pick up the pretty pink mace though! @skippygirlsmom - Getting a RoadID is a great idea. I think my mom runs with one as well. I try to remember to tell my husband my route. The bike…

Wow! A ton of fantastic running going on in here! Today is a rest day for me but here is my mileage from the last couple days: Date... Miles... @akirkman86 - it is hard when you and your training partner have different goals in mind. Perhaps you can run with her on your shorter days or even have her meet you for the last part of your longer runs? Then you can still run with her but still be able to stay on track for your training. When is your half again?…

Another vote for commando!

@akirkman86 - I am still paying around with what combo of food. I don't have any set formula except "don't eat of a deficit" and try to avoid overly fatty or spicy foods the day before. I know others have a prefered meal plan for the 1-2 days leading up though @skippygirlsmom - congrats on getting cleared from PT! It is…

This is hysterical. I did a similar thing last night on my run. I did a 2 mile run over to a hill I planned on doing a few repeats up. I turned the corner to the hill and there was a class from the local JC there just starting their workout - hill repeats! I ended up doing my repeats harder than intended and was feeling it…

Oh one more thing, if you like the skinny-leg style you can get away with the pants hitting at your ankle which may give you more options. Then pair them with cute flats or heels. Great job on the weight loss! Keep it up. :)

Quality wise I like Gap and the Limited for Slacks. Ann Taylor Loft is hit or miss. Sign up for the weekly emails. There are always sales going on (especially at Gap and the Loft). Also, once you know what style and size you like, online will generally give you the best selection. They often have long lengths in styles…

@SBRRepeat - it was a dirt fire road. The Old Coast Road in Big Sur. Brutal! I am training for the Big Sur marathon in April and most folks around here try to do OCR at least once during training with the idea that if you can survive those hills then the hills at the marathon will seem easy. ;)
-
@skippygirlsmom - I have been playing around with fuel on longer runs and have found that the most essential thing for me is to eat properly (and enough) the day before the run and to eat 150-200 calories prior to the run. My stomach doesn't tolorate much while running thus I try and load up prior to. During the run I…

Well if your toddler is anything like mine they will promptly sit on your head the minute you try and do any exercises while they are awake! This includes trying to stretch or do the foam roller. ;) I mostly run which I do 90% of without the kids and the other 10% with 1 or both of the kids in the jog stroller. I walk a…

I think I must have missed something here! Plenty of other people post riding/walking/strength training etc. I don't see how it distracts from the challange? Post away! I only post my running mileage because that is really my only dedicated exercise right now outside of the occasional Pilates class.

Best of luck! I am sure you will do great! I am doing a marathon end of April. I consider it a 1st for me since the only other one I ran was 12 years ago! After that I am going to switch gears and train for an Olympic Tri in July along with running a trail 1/2 marathon in June. I will probably find another road 1/2 in the…

21 mile trail run today (5,117 total elevation gain). Seriously the hardest run I have done! I am not at a computer and don't have my running log. I think that brings me to 43 miles done/117 remaining.

@runningmischka - Best of luck on everything! @akirkman86 - with 2 you just learn quickly to avoid any sort of hill. The stroller plus kids weighs a ton and can be tough on inclines (Mine is 35lb stroller + 70lbs of kid weight). Flats are super chill though with a nice stroller.

I have a single BOB - the Sport and a double BOB - the Revolution. For running I actually like the bigger, more durable wheels of the Sport. However, if you are going to use it as an everyday type stroller the front wheel of the Revolution can be both fixed wheel (for running) and rotating (for walking). I love both…

Thanks. That makes sense. I will cut my rest time for next weeks workout and see how it goes. And great picture!

I have a question on this: what should the "resting" pace be on a workout similar to above? I did the exact workout by chance yesterday 4*800m with 800m active rest in between each of the intervals. I was aiming for 7:00 pace but ended up doing closer to 6:30/6:40 pace and dropping down to 7:30/7:45 pace for the "rest"…

Incredible. I've read about her in the past and it is refreshing to see that the people around her have longevity in mind and not just focused what she can accomplish right now. As a former D1 middle distance runner I will forever be fascinated by that distance and the stories of the elite athletes who compete in the…

@HealthyFocused715 I agree that a little tight is way better than a little loose. I just had to return a pair of running tights because they wouldn't stay up on my run. I had to hold my pants and try and push the double stroller on my inagural run in them. It was quite a sight! @ohhim I firmly believe in the power of…

I have been playing around with this as well. I have found that a Luna bar and an espresso about an hour before my long runs (12+ miles) are great. I also take a honey stinger gel about 15 minutes before. I can't stomach much fuel during runs and thus I try to load myself up with calories before hand. For my 20 miler I did…

What a beautiful story and a wonderful connection you will always have with her.
