Now.....this is funny. :D I've too had a lot of struggles with weight my entire life. Until I learned the power of moderation and eating less calories than I burn. I can tell you have found a plan that works for you that keeps you in a calorie deficit. The magic lies in eating less calories than you burn, not in the diet…

This exactly. Also, OP, food type does not make a person gain weight unless you exceed your total daily energy expenditure on a pretty consistent basis.
-
And, this is 100% spot on.
-
Josh, all that food sounds sooooo delicious! We're going to a company party tonight with "heavy appetizers" (as described in our company invitation), and I can't wait to see and taste! I am saving up calories for this!

I wish my mom was still alive, and it's been 32 years since she passed. I would love to spend time in one of the funky diners with her.
-
This is Grandpa and me, who has been gone for five years. He died at 95, and I spent plenty of time at funky eating places because it was the time that was important, and not the food.
-
This is your 86 year old dad. I suggest spending the time with him at that diner, not allowing his comments about your dietary plan bother you, and just be you. You could even save some calories up for that special breakfast with dad too, or eat a small amount before and have just toast and coffee at the diner. I dunno, I…

My grandfather, who died five years ago, would be so happy to hear this. He LOVED Taco Bell, and it was a major treat to him when we all went there. That said, 7 tacos a day seems like overkill, I could certainly meet adequate protein and fat macros.

The way to tell whether the balance of your calories in and calories burned is working is by your results. What is your weight doing? Are you losing at your desired rate?
-
Even though food type has nothing to do with the actual mechanics of weight loss, I have also found that I need more of certain types of foods to keep my energy level at it's best. For example, sugar and carbs don't bother me in the least, but if I miss having adequate protein, I begin to feel a bit off. It's when I don't…

You've lost 10 pounds in 20 days? While the first bit of weight is usually more and comes off quickly, that sounds like it's too much too quickly. You could be sluggish because you are not eating enough to sustain you. You are exercising, so you will need to eat more to compensate for that energy expenditure. MFP is set up…

I've done this before, and every single time the scale will say less or more than the first time I stepped on the scale. Step on once and you're done. Unless your weight keeps climbing over time, what you're describing is natural fluctuation.
-
Does your scale have batteries that might need to be changed? There are digital scales for $25 or less. Can you swing that anytime soon?
-
What do you mean by gaining? How much? Over what amount of time? I'm not going to tell you it's muscle because it's not muscle, which is intentionally build under intentional circumstances. :) You've lost weight, and weight loss is never linear. I have this funny feeling in my tummy that what you are experiencing is water…
-
This sounds like natural weight fluctuation to me. Each time you weigh, step on the scale once and then you're done for that time. Congrats on your 90 pounds lost!

There is no can't, unless it's a food allergy or intolerance. How about some people choose not to eat certain things because they don't have control of their impulse around certain foods? Food has no power, except for the power we give it. As a person with an eating disorder years ago, it was only when I stopped telling…

@Izzy62, it's obvious you know that a calorie deficit is required no matter what type of way of eating/dietary plan you choose, so I'm not really sure what you are upset about. I mean, you started a posting here saying the same things that other people say in response to those who believe that a calorie deficit is not…
-
It is not different for everybody when it comes to the mechanics of weight loss-eat at a calorie deficit and you will lose weight every single time. It is only the process of creating that calorie deficit that is different.
-
No, this is silly. You lost weight because you were in a calorie deficit, and 10 pounds in two weeks is not healthy.
-
@Stella3838, with such a beautiful attitude, you will go far and reach your goals!
-
Seeee.......totally natural! By the way-
-
I was gonna say something similar. :D
-
Congratulations, but I guarantee you that all those calories were eaten at a deficit. ;) Literally counting calories is irrelevant. Stay within your calorie deficit to lose weight and it works every single time irrespective of diet type.
-
Some medications can increase appetite for sure, and then we eat more.
-
It's only been a week. Try to stay patient, weight loss is a journey. You have not gained any muscle. Muscle gain is intentional work. Whether or not you eat clean has nothing to do with weight loss. Besides, clean is in the perception. The .8 is natural fluctuation. This happens throughout one's life, but we just seem to…
-
I suggest about 75% of your total calories burned only, to account for any estimation errors. For example, based on results my heart rate monitor has rendered the most accurate numbers. Calorie burns from machines, the internet and MFP are generally too high.
-
If you just started dieting, it's normal to lose weight quickly at first. It will slow down. Otherwise, it's probably just natural weight fluctuations.
-
My food is clean, especially my fruits and vegetables that I am careful to wash well before consumption. I suspect the rest of my foods are washed prior to packaging. Your information about food type and meal timing is not correct. If I ate that much food each day, clean or dirty, I would be about 2800 over my TDEE, which…
