I started only posting workout/food related posts on Instagram and not on Facebook - because I always felt like people on facebook are judgmental and/or think you're trying to "show-off" (when I am NOT, but this has become part of my life, that is why I share it). Anyways, just a suggestion.

I thought about doing the 50K of this race, and saw a few videos on facebook that Ultra Adventures posted - it looked amazing! But, your post just reassured me that I definitely want more experience before tackling a race like this (it would've been my first ultra)... I'm doing a 33K in Moab this weekend, and then my first…

LOVE the Ravenna. I have had the Ravenna 3 and the 4. I have not bought the new 5 yet (but definitely will as soon as I need another shoe!) My one complaint on the 4, is that the "tongue" doesn't stay straight, it always falls off to the side. I am hoping they have fixed that with the 5. Other than that, I love it. Ran my…

I will be running my first 50K in March! Can't wait! If it's on trails, definitely make sure you get a majority of your long runs in on trails! Get the book "Relentless Forward Motion: A Guide to Running Ultramarathons" - I had it recommend to me, and I'm about 1/4 of the way into it - it's pretty interesting thus far.

If you're like me, even after 12+ races, I still can't manage to run and drink out of a paper cup at the same time without spilling all over myself...or start choking, etc... Therefore, my advice is - there's no shame in walking for a minute while you drink. Lots of people will be doing it, and for me, it helps insure I'm…

As long as the sun is out, I love running in 30* weather! I've ran in as low as 7*F to as high as in the 90's...and 90 is ROUGH. My ideal range would probably be 30-70.

Nice job at Disney! I was just barely in front of you at the marathon - 4:26:45! (I "only" did the marathon though, no Goofy or Dopey).

I second the suggestion to get the book "Relentless Forward Progress." I just ran my first marathon last week, and am now training for my first 50K on March 22nd, with the HOPE to do a 50 miler in September (but that will depend on how the 50K) goes. I just started reading Relentless Forward Progress, but it was…

Update #2 - Jan 1 - 3 Miles Ran in the freezing cold snow! (also, 300+ miles drove...that counts right? j/k). Jan 2 - Nothing Jan 3 - 4.25 Mile Run on the dreadmill Jan 4 - 4.17 Mile Run in the snow (again) Jan 5 - 8 Mile Run in the cold wind (I'M READY FOR SUMMER!) Jan 6 - Nothing Jan 7 - 3.25 Mile Run on the dreadmill

Great post! I was actually thinking about posting something similar (1 week to go until my first!). Question - how do I know what a good pace to start out at is? Because I've been doing all of my long runs at just under an 11 minute/mile pace (around 10:50 to be exact), but everyone says you run faster on race day. So…

Good question...I will also be following this. I've gotten down to 125 (5'-6"), and that's where I felt best so far. I'm now back around 130 just from not eating very well lately, but definitely want to drop those 5 lbs again (hopefully getting rid of all the christmas treats will help!).

Yes!!! Here's one from me! Enjoy!

1722 total miles in 2013, 1513 of them strictly running. I didn't start logging until August 2012, but what I did log was only around 350 or so miles, so this was a huge difference! My goal for 2014 is 2000 total miles, which doesn't necessarily include just running (I also hike a lot in the summer, and do a small amount…

I realized I never really answered your question (just got mad at the anti-sticker guy)... With a 7 hour time limit, you should definitely have plenty of time to run/walk it. However, you might find it miserable and then never want to do one again!!! And you should enjoy it! But do the 20 mile training run and see how it…

I was running 30-40 mile weeks before I started my marathon plan last September, which actually dropped me down to low 20 mile weeks for the first several weeks. I actually did end up dropping my mileage down to match the plan, which I think was right for me at the time because I had a pretty intense summer and was feeling…

Run my first marathon (which is in 2 weeks, and I'm feeling pretty good about it, so I'm pretty confident about this one) Run at least 1 race per month Become an Ultra Runner (already signed up for a 50K in March, and if that goes well, I want to sign up for a 50 miler in late summer or early fall) Complete Pikes Peak…

I'm sorry it's considered lame to you...but to me, it's a huge accomplishment. As someone who was never athletic before, does not have anyone in my immediate family or friends who runs, and used to be overweight, it is a big deal. It takes a lot of dedication to run a marathon. 2 to 4 hour runs every single weekend,…

Thanks for the recommendations. I will definitely keep them in mind, however, I was hoping to use something smaller, that does not hold any water (so just a pouch for my gels and maybe cell phone). Anyone tried any of those types?

I bought the YakTrax Run a few weeks ago and have used them twice now - both for my long 20 milers pre-marathon, and in somewhat different conditions: The first run I used them on was mostly just compacted snow on dirt roads (very little ice) - they worked great, definitely felt like I had great traction. I maybe could've…

Do an "out-and-back" - then you won't get lost, AND you're practically forced to go the whole distance - you have to get back home somehow! EDIT to add - I just saw someone else posted about out-and-backs too - and they also brought up another good point - in that it kind of breaks up the run, because for the first half,…

Put in a zippered pocket of a coat/jacket, inside your gear bag - then it's not visible and they'll be some extra protection for it.

Brooks, Brooks, and more Brooks. I've got 5 pairs: Brooks Ravenna 4's (2 pairs - one's about on it's last leg) - this is my go-to shoe for anything. I typically wear it on all of my long runs. Brooks Pure Cadence 2 - this is my semi-minimalist shoe that I wear on shorter runs. I've tried a few longer runs in them and just…

Great job!

I always buy it with the intention to just put a tiny bit on top of my eggo waffles for breakfast, and then the evening rolls around and can't stop myself from eating it by the spoonful. Must not buy the stuff...I have no control!

I do just want to re-iterate, if you like to stay out late and/or ski, don't go to Estes in the winter. Restaurants literally close before 7:00, and even earlier on week days. But it is pretty empty this time of year, so hotels are usually cheaper (as opposed to ski towns where they're much higher during this time of the…

If you weren't already flying into Denver, I'd suggest Telluride, Ouray, or Silverton...because the San Juan Mountains in SW Colorado are the prettiest mountains in Colorado (in my opinion)...but it's about a 6 hour drive from Denver. Steamboat Springs could be fun - they've got some great hot springs as well as skiing.…

My goal for 2014 is to run at least 1 race every month. Here's what I've got planned so far - (R=actually registered for, P=planning, but haven't registered yet) January - Walt Disney World Marathon 1/12/14 (R) February - Black Canyon Rim Romp (P - this is actually a snowshoe race!) March - Gemini Adventures 24 Hours of…

This website also has them, and I believe they always have free shipping: http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/ I bought mine refurbished from Groupon. Got the Forerunner 210 with HRM for $150 vs. $250 new (although they may be less than that now that new models are out - I do hope they fixed the charging issues!)
