Same confusion here. 3 weeks ago, I wore my HRM for 12 hours. It said that I burned about 2300 calories. All I did was eat, drink, and watch sports. I kinda remember ingesting about 4000 calories that day, and I gained 4 pounds.

I do 30 minutes a day on the exercycle. But it is the final portion of my 2 hour cardio workout. So I usually burn about 275 calories (according to my polar HRM) at 18 MPH. But the resistance is set low.

I go to the weight room maybe 2 days a week. And I dont try to lift anything heavy. It may look wimpy, doing curls with 15 lb dumbells, but it works for me. I also do cardio for a couple of hours a day, 6 days a week.

I dont know if you go to a gym or not, but there is a hand crank exercise bike at my gym. And it aint easy! I'd bet you could burn just as many calories as a regular exercycle. If you work out at home, heres something to look at getting. http://www.magnetrainer.com/ hope this helps.

According to my HRM (polar FT4) I regularly exceed my max. But using the A.H.A. guideline, I could go another 25 bpm above my HRM's alarm setting.
