I'd like to join. I'm not sure if an inch by Christmas is realistic for me so I'll be happy with half an inch off--although if I could lose an entire inch I'd be thrilled! Starting: weight: 129.6 waist: 28 hips: 38 Long-term goals: don't let winter get in the way of exercising! Weekly: 1. 3 strength workouts a week.…

thank you so much! I did notice that we are have similar starting points and goals. I'm trying to focus more on fitness and not obsess about the scale numbers... that way at least I'll feel good. In my case the dip below 130 was a total surprise, it was just there one day, I wasn't even feeling particularly "thin" or…

Thanks--it helps to know I'm not the only one. I think I'll just ride it out and maybe I'll regain the taste for meat in a few days. I have kale and collards in the fridge, those are sounding really good right now, so there will be more greens in my future.

I aim for 95g a day. Typical day might be lean sausage and/or eggs for breakfast, chicken or tuna salad for lunch, chicken breast for dinner. But something weird happened this week, I am trying to figure it out. A couple days ago I lost all appetite for meat. Nothing I had on hand (meatloaf, chicken, sausage, tuna, fish)…

I think I missed a couple weeks of checking in. As you can see.... Start weight: 137 (July 20) Goal Weight: 115 Lbs to Lose: 22 08/01: 136 or so (hadn't found this group yet) 09/05: 132.2 09/12: 131.2 09/19: 129.6 09/26: 129.6 10/03: 131.2 pounds to go: 16.2 I'm going backwards! I think the tip upwards today mostly has to…

Water is the best but not all waters are the same--are you drinking water from your tap? I have certainly lived in places where drinking tap water was... not what I expected it to be. Just out of curiosity it might be worthwhile checking with your county to see what kinds of things are in your water. For instance I grew up…

It depends on what you think tastes ok when it's not hot. For me most things I cook taste ok to me at room temperature (out of the fridge in the morning, unrefrigerated until lunchtime). I have never had a problem with any unsafe food in the few hours between leaving the house and eating lunch. However, some cold options:…

Hi I'm Carrie, I'll be 44 next month... trying to get healthier and then stay there. Always happy to have more friends!

We are the same height and my starting weight (as of mid-July) was about 137-138. I am not losing weight fast but I think I'm going in the right direction. I aim for 1500 cal/day and right now my macros are set to 25% carbs, 25% protein, 50% fat. This works out to about 95 g of carbs and protein and 85 g of fat, which is…

neat idea! B: chicken breast, baked acorn squash L: roasted green beans and brussels sprouts, homemade chicken sausage (basically ground chicken with some spices), cheddar cheese (I know that cheese is not considered strictly Paleo; sometimes I eat it because it helps me feel full) D: nectarine, 2 kiwi, handful roasted…

Such an important topic. I find that when I have a small success, I think I can "treat" myself. It takes resolve not to undo each step by indulging in some good food. As others have said, planning ahead and bringing my own food are the only way I can make it sometimes. This weekend for instance I have to go to a retreat…

oh boy, I'm dreading winter! Last year was a terrible blow to my fitness endeavors. I'm trying to think positively and keeping fingers crossed it's not as bad as last year. I've recently stopped eating a lot of grains (bread, pasta, rice, muffins, scones, cornbread, etc) and I think that will help a bit if I can keep it up…

I didn't know that. This is great information, thanks.

some favorites: cast iron skillets with lids cast iron dutch oven parchment paper (ok, not a tool exactly, but...) immersion blender--lived without it for a long time, love it! food processor--mine lives on the counter. small coffee grinder for spices citrus zester food mill apple peeler loud timer (I have a habit of…

I'm not familiar with that program but fwiw I do strength training 3 days a week with a bit of cardio and longer cardio exercise on the inbetween days with one long (6-7 mi) run per week. I average 6 days of exercise a week. If anything I feel better now than I did before Paleo--I find I'm eating more protein and it really…

New to Paleo myself, so take all this with whatever salt grains you consider necessary. If you are a data addict (I am--I weigh myself often, not to beat myself up about it, but to collect data on how I'm doing) try also taking measurements every so often in addition to looking at the scale. There are times when I don't…

I'll be 44 next month. I don't think it's all imagination. What I've experienced is that as I get older, I have much less wiggle room for treats and overeating. Unless I keep exercising and watch what I eat, the weight just piles on. For example, we had a terrible winter this year; we were snowed in for months. My normal…

Yay! I know it takes a long time so I'm trying to be patient.

I hope for an average of at least 400 cal/day 6 days a week. Mostly it works out to be lower on days that I do weight training and higher on days I do cardio. This makes me tempted to do all cardio all the time, but in the long run I think the strength training is important, so I try to make it average out over the week.

I don't really consider myself "officially" Paleo but I started eliminating grains in July. Looking around for new recipes to try I discovered Paleo and while I'm not a strict follower, probably 90% of what I eat could fall under the Paleo definition. There are a few things I doubt I'll ever give up (who can pass up sweet…

Hi everyone, I recently re-started my weight loss efforts here on MFP. I'm short (5'2") and sort of on the boundary between high-"normal" BMI and officially "overweight". I feel as if I'm always struggling with the last 10-20 pounds. Anyway, I'm trying again, with weight lifting and some diet changes and looking for all…

My goals are 1) I want to be able to fit in my favorite clothes again without them feeling tight 2) I want to sew new clothes without having to fit and cut a bigger size. I love to sew and I love clothes but I've held off on making any clothes for a while because I don't want to face my heavy-self measurements. I want to…

Hi, I'd like to join if it's not too late! I'm Carrie, currently living in Michigan. I'll be 44 in October. When I started tracking my calories again in mid-July I was the heaviest I've ever been. This was partly due to a terrible harsh winter that put a severe dent in my exercise program even though I tried to get to the…
