  • Most days I can control myself around chips, but certain days when I'm ravenous or have PMS, I cannot. So I don't keep them in my house--not even portion controlled bags. The only time I crave them is in the evening, but I've never craved them badly enough to go out and buy them. (It helps that by then, I've taken my…
  • I started a little over a year ago with over 100 to lose (111 to get to a "normal" BMI), and I've lost 78 so far. It's going to take me a while to lose the last 33 (or possibly more), so I'm not going anywhere. I log daily and try to support my friends the best I can--and I'm pretty good at answering questions.…
  • I'm 30 with an 8 year old girl and 1 year old boy. Since my son was born, I've lost 76 lbs, and I still have more to go. I'm on here daily, my diary is public, my profile has lots of info about me, and I welcome friend requests from anyone.
  • Are you taking measurements and/or pictures? I wore the same size jeans for about 5-6 months (roughly 40-50 lb weight difference), but they were tight at first and then eventually got a little baggy, so I was brave enough to try the next size down. I have noticed that when I was heavier, it took a bigger loss to get to the…
  • I've lost weight (76 lbs) without cutting any foods out of my diet. For me, the trick has been learning what my "trigger foods" are. I have a difficult time sticking to one portion of chips, so I don't keep them in the house--but I do occasionally get a small bag with my sandwich at Subway. On the other hand, I can stick…
  • It's not going to be accurate because you don't do the exact same thing five weeks in a row. However, what I really appreciate is the projection on days I go over. Seeing that even if I ate that many calories for 35 days straight I'd still lose weight (or gain a small amount) helps keep me from feeling like I've failed.
  • I started with Leslie Sansone's walking videos (1 mile to start) and used my recumbent bike. Walking inside (especially if you have carpet) is a lot easier on the joints than walking on pavement. I gradually added time, and as I lost weight I was able to go faster and longer. Best of luck to you!
  • I log daily and enjoy interaction and sharing tips. I'm not perfect, but I've had great success on here, especially since adding supportive friends! Anyone can feel free to add me. SW: 284 lbs CW: 208 lbs GW: 173 lbs? (gets me to "normal" BMI)
  • When I was a kid, I ate my scrambled eggs with grape jelly. I can only assume some fell off my toast at some point, and I decided it was delicious.
  • Never take yourself off meds without a plan from your psychiatrist. Psych meds almost always need to have the dose tapered down to avoid negative side effects and rebound problems (depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.). There are other options for antidepressants--for example, I take Wellbutrin, and it is not correlated…
  • Beautifully written! It's taken me over a decade to accept that instant gratification is not always possible, but furthermore, that it's often not desirable. :star:
  • When your daughter wants to go to the pool and you tell her maybe tomorrow, mommy just washed her hair today.... A half hour of washing/conditioning/styling, a ridiculous amount of product, and 5-6 hours of drying--not going through that again!
  • I think your attitude is amazing, as is your ability to be completely honest and candid!

  • In this case, I would search for USDA potato 100g (would specify type of potato), and that gets me several accurate entries. I search for USDA 100g for all fruits and veggies, so I get the most accurate logging possible.
  • My husband's doctor recommended a healthier diet (lower in saturated fat and sugar), more soluble fiber, regular exercise, and a Red Yeast Rice supplement.
  • I'm a bisexual atheist who is extremely nerdy and geeky. I love math, logic, and books, and I write poetry (just for myself). I like tea, but it will never replace my espresso! :-)
  • I'm doing something similar to Stronglifts with dumbbells currently, but I'm alternating push/pull. I do strength training Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with ABA week 1 and BAB week 2. This is my routine (all exercises are 5 sets of 5 reps): Workout A (Push): 1) Goblet Squats (I just started doing these, and have found…

  • Brilliant! I have an app (Trendweight I believe), but I rarely get to step on the scale in the morning without my son "helping" me by pressing on it. I do try to weigh myself several days a week to get a more accurate picture of what my body is doing. If I weigh in every Monday and I happen to get a low weight day the…
  • I work out at home. I have a set of adjustable dumbbells (I have no room for a barbell or squat rack), and as I get stronger I order heavier plates for them. You can do a lot of compound exercises with dumbbells and get a great workout! I use the site exrx.net, and I look for the exercises that use dumbbells or just…
  • Chia seeds are not zero calories--I have the Nutiva brand, and they're 60 calories per tbsp. However, they are an excellent source of fiber and omega 3 fats! And they make a tasty pudding.
  • I do almost all my workouts at home. I have a recumbent bike, adjustable dumbbells, aerobics DVDs, and Just Dance games for the Wii. We have a fitness center in my apartment complex, so I can use the elliptical or treadmill if they are not occupied, and I sometimes take long walks with the kids. Honestly I like working out…
  • I volunteer to adopt a noob! I'm Liz, and I'm a 30-year-old married mom of 2. Like many of you, I've lost and gained weight several times throughout my life. This time is the first time it's felt sustainable--I'm not eager to be done dieting so I can eat real food again! I'm over halfway to my goal, but I'm trying to get…
  • When you say you're not supposed to eat back weight training calories and you mention logging lifting, I'm assuming you're entering individual exercises in the strength training section of your exercise diary. That's a great way to see progress, but MFP doesn't assign calories for those exercises--there are too many…
  • I have a math degree and love science. Feel free to add me!
  • It sounds like you've got the right attitude! I'm also a perfectionist by nature, and one bad day used to mean failure to me. I've learned that the mental aspect of weight loss is actually more important than anything else. Motivation drives you at the start, but it's determination that will get you to your goals. Best of…
