Ha ha, golden oldie! I'm doing whatever tests they offer that have no risk of miscarriage (nuchal translucency and the MaterniT21). I have mixed feelings about doing them, but I really want the early scan! I do not want to actually know my numbers as long as they are normal because that 1 in whatever chance will just worry…

Love the costume idea! So cute! I've been telling people mostly on a need-to-know basis, especially when it comes to sports-related people. I want them to know in case something happens. My family will be coming in 1.5 weeks and I'm so excited to tell them then. It feels like we've been hiding the secret forever and I know…

I've also been drinking unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and I add a little ovaltine to spruce it up. Ovaltine does have sugar, but you can control how much you add, which is better than drinking the sugar-saturated pre-mixed chocolate almond milk. I'm impressed that you can eat cheese and yogurt -I haven't been able to…

Thanks, everyone, for your responses and for making me feel better about being a little down with all of the difficult symptoms. It's our first, and honestly the whole nausea/exhaustion just took both of us by surprise. My friends who had babies either didn't talk about how sick they felt or didn't feel sick (luckies!), so…

Sounds like everyone has good news all around! I had my first official prenatal appt on Friday. It was a little disappointing in that I did not learn anything new, but I was also not feeling well at all that morning and was unfortunately very cranky. When the midwife asked, Do you feel anxious or depressed? I replied, Umm,…

Good morning, Ladies! I've been feeling better in the past two days, so perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel (or should I say birth canal). After a bad weekend, my appetite has been slowly returning, the nausea seems a little lighter and tends to occur mostly in the afternoon and evening. I'm still pretty tired,…

Wow! Congratulations on the twins! I'm jealous! I told my husband that I hoped we were having twins because I didn't want to go through this twice. Unfortunately, according to the ultrasound, it looks like I'll be going through this twice. (But really, I'll be happy if I get through this with just one healthy baby in the…

The food really is a struggle. Some days, the only things I can put in my mouth are plain pasta and clementines. Pasta generally puts weight on me, but what are my other options? So I'm trying really hard to just give myself the green light with eating whatever I need to keep the nausea at bay and feel ok. Yes, I've gained…

I felt pretty good at my swim workouts this week, so I think that's working for me. It takes a real act of will each evening to jump into that freezing water, especially as it grows colder outside. But during the workouts this week all of my symptoms have just faded to the background and I felt like myself again, if only…

My nausea seemed to have peaked at around the 6-7 week point. That was definitely the worst I've ever felt in my life. It's still around and making me pretty miserable on and off, but it's definitely not as bad as it was. I didn't even know you could get anti-nausea medication! I've gained some weight (~5 lbs) from eating…

That's so great! I wish I had a relative close by with whom I could share this experience (and commiserate about the nausea!). It will also be so nice for the cousins to be able to play together and grow up together1 My sister lives far away but she was even excited that I'm due around the time that her second child will…

I learned a lot about having compassion for overweight people by being on this site, but it's still a mixed experience. Since I lost some weight (admittedly I was never overweight), I felt that if I could do it by educating myself about , surely they could do it. And many other members share this sentiment. On the other…

Update: I had my very first ultrasound today! The tech was all nonchalant, business-as-usual. She found the baby right away with its strongly beating heart but my husband and I were all like WHOA THERE'S OUR BABY! Measuring just right for the age (8w4d) with a healthy heartbeat of around 160. I had had very small amounts…

My heart goes out to you and your family as you recover from this sad event.

I really hope things turn out well for you, Jules. I can certainly empathize with your fears -every change that seems out of the ordinary makes me crazy with worry.

Has anyone used a doula? One of my friends swears by hers and says it was the best money she ever spent. Just curious about other people's experiences.

Oh, one other weird thing I've noticed: I'm always extremely cold. I'm so cold that I'm wearing a light down jacket around the house with the hood up and heavy wool socks. Last night my swim team held a stroke clinic for which I wore a farmer john wetsuit, and I STILL was the only person who had to get out early from the…

Hi All! I took it really easy this weekend with lots of napping. I never feel fully awake these days. My nausea, which was consistently deeply miserable for two weeks, is now kind of come and go, and never as bad as it was. I don't know if I should be worried or not, but the default tends to be worried! I had bloodwork…

Best wishes to you and your family.

A lot of the strategies I use have been mentioned, so I'll just repeat something powerful that I read in a forum post: Time is going to pass no matter what. Next week, next month, next year will come. You can choose to remain the same and feel just as miserable then, or do something about it now and every day so that you…

I've been reading the book _Pushed_, which is admittedly a bit dated, but I think it gives an accurate picture of what happens at an induction, why inductions are done, and why they tend to lead to extremely painful labors and, often, C-sections following the painful labor. Of course, many people have good stories to tell…

Hi All! Just wanted to check in and say "hi." And complain a little -I need to complain to someone, and my husband has heard enough. No one ever told me how hard the first trimester is. Last night my sister said it can even be more difficult than the first three months after birth. Great... I've got at least a month of…

Hello all! My first time posting in the group... am a little nervous about making this public since I find myself constantly on edge about EVERYTHING, always thinking the worst. Which is so not like me. Must be the crazy hormones. Anyway, I'm wondering how people have been coping with nausea. Mine seems to be cured by…

I love running in the winter! You can do really fun snow workouts in fields (if you don't mind getting your shoes wet, or if the snow is a little crusty -then it's an awesome workout and you stay dry). If you are worried about the dark, wear both a reflective vest and a headlamp so cars can see you well, and the latter…

You *look* so much happier and healthier! Great inspiration for everyone on here!

I was a sprinter (went to State in the 400 m) in high school, and I eventually made the switch to distance running (marathons, triathlons, etc). If you like the shorter stuff, then by all means include high intensity interval training into your workout routines -it will take advantage of your natural speed inclination…

Btw, this is the basic plot of Shakespeare's play _Hamlet_, except that the uncle killed the father before marrying his brother's wife. At the end of the play everyone dies. The nephew-son kills his uncle-father. Just sayin'. HAMLET You are welcome: but my uncle-father and aunt-mother are deceived. GUILDENSTERN In what, my…

My feet always feel sore after 1.5 hours or so in the Vibrams, but I'm sure you could build yourself up to longer distances. (Maybe I should try to build myself up to longer, but then again I never run with my Vibrams on trails, which is where I do nearly all of my running.)

I really dislike that first moment when I dive into the pool and it's soooo cold, especially in the winter. I feel like I need to sprint a 100 fly just in order to warm up. It's even worse when the lane is crowded and the person in front is swimming slowly so I can't sprint. Running is my true love, but there is always…
